Hi...im not happy with just putting muzzle flashes in post production for my movies and getting a fake look to it..i have some airsoft hand guns and machine guns and i was tryin to figure out a way to make gunshots look cool while in production and not in post...i was thinkin if there was anything i could use to maybe put in the airsoft guns and shoot out to make smoke come out of the barrel....like some sort of smoke bombs or whatever that could explode when i shoot...i dont know if this is possible and i would like to know what u guys think.....

No, bad idea.

1) Squibs are used for bullet impacts only.

2) Squibs are explosive, which means that they blows things up (IE: The tip of an airsoft gun).

3) With spring airsoft guns you can do nothing for a smoke effect.

4) Using blanks or using gas airsoft guns give good smoke / muzzle flashes.

5) You should try out more stuff with AlamDV, because you can in fact get extremely good muzzle effects.

Maybe you should try registering before you post a topic and reply to a perfectly good answer so harshly...oh and what exactly were you hoping we would tell you...I got a bag of this magic pixy dust especially made for airsoft gun muzzleflashes so you don't have to go through the trouble of making perfectly realistic ones in AlamDV...you either use blanks or AlamDV....those are your only options...

Well, for starters, don't just paste on a muzzle flash and call it quits. edit the muzzle flash to match your surroundings, giving it a blurry edge and such. use lens-flares to increase the light, and possibly light your scene as if someone was shooting, i.e. quick flashes of light on the actor.

Yeah the thing is real guns dont have smoke and fire pouring out of them. It's just a flash and thats it. In movies they tend to make the flashes bigger and last much longer, upto 3 frames!

You could put talc in the gun and fire it empty although that's not gonna do your gun much good or show up much.

The best thing seems to be a combination of the muzzle flashes added in post and blended, and a strobe light flicked on although its hard to match the flash to the actor exactly.

Also a good gun sound makes any gun firing 100% better.

also, as said before, a lens flare works. If you dont add them in filming - tho it will look better - go into AE or Premiere and add one in. It looks cool, and actually adds light!

Not saying I m one of the gratest here but I try and hopefully you will see my talent once my movie is finished).and doughlas is right havent you heard of andrewtheactorman, jessy, maby him once he gets a camera, and hopefully me. This is why we 12 year olds take it as a personal attack!
