I have a network hub and a few pc's connected using xp's own network thingie.

This morning they didn't talk to each other, I've tried everything except for wiping down the hard drive, the only software i've installed since last night was window's movie maker 2. ( all the lights show working but each computer says sending packet info but neither recieve )

Is there any software that can do what xp does and connect them. ?

Many thanks

Netgear 5 way, been using it for years, suddenly this morning it happened, the hub shows the lights working together, so it must be one of the pc's, i've tried without firewalls etc.

If i wipe the hard drive down, it might be the other pc with the problem sad i can't wipe both down sad

I use LAN to connect my computer with my brothers...although i'm not sure are you doing it for you can transfer files among each computer or do you just want a LAN for the interenet can run on all of them....if its for the internet i know what I did was just have a Linksey's hub connected it to the back of my computer with windows xp and to my hub for internet and than another cable from the Linksey's hub to my brothers computer with xp. Than all it was was a matter of turning the computer on and everything worked and windows xp installed everything necessary on its own and we were away. We didn't have to install any software.

Don't know if this helps any.. confused

You havent really told us enough to be helpful.

If the hub/switch lights are on and/or flickering and you can ping the other computers (your ip addresses and so on are all right) then what isn't working?

Thanks guys,
but the next morning I turned the pc's on again ( I did turn them on and off loads of time ) anyway the next morning it was working again, ?

My wife thinks that the lan wire that goes upstairs might have been squashed by a door or something.

Thanks once again

I've worked out the problem and it's worth knowing just incase oneday you guys setup a lan network ( or already have )

When I power the PC down using the button on the front of the case the Lan network doesn't work when powered back up.

If I shut the PC's down properly ( using start / shutdown ) then they work when I power back up.
