With the sudden enslaught of video games making the transition onto the big screen (some being terribly bad). Which game from the following list would you like to see get the movie makeup?

And also state in a post if you would want the film to be in CG or Live Action.

I'll go first - from the list I'd be torn between a few of them. Deus Ex works so beautifully as a video game and I don't think its structure could be taken across to a film format. Max Payne carries a great narrative and I don't doubt somewhere someone is buying the rights to create this screen adaptation. The one for me though from the list would be a CG of the Legend Of Zelda. Every game in the series has for me been sublime and re-creating the battles between Ganon and Link would be trully awesome to see at the cinema.

It didn't make the final list. I've tried to cater to the masses and I don't think pong is known by the twelve year olds playing GTA. :'(

Problem with adapting MGS and Max Payne for movies is that they're already riffing on a load of movie cliches. Although they seem fresh in the game world, if you took Max Payne's cheesy dialogue and sub-film noir story and made it into a movie it'd be laughed out of the theatre. I won't even go into MGS' lame attempts to be a movie - it forgets to be a game, but yet taken as a proper movie it's rubbish, so ends up mucking up both mediums.

The world and characters of Deus Ex could be made into a very kick ass cyberpunk movie, but the story is too expansive to work in a single film. It'd be a better idea to take the themes and setting and explore that. I just want to see augmented UNATCO agents fighting in a city, jumping from building to building, seeing through walls, lifting up incredibly heavy things and throwing them about, running super fast.... smile

Same here, but I'd worry about it so much as a film! Its near impossible to comprehend Deus Ex as a film because its just, as you put; 'expansive'!

It'd be mad if they tried and follow all the routes and decision making from the game.. where the audience decided on the outcome of a situation much like the audience for Who Wants to be a Millionaire voted. The majority is what bit of the movie is played next.

?Would it work? pfff...

Actually, Deus Ex - if you wanted to keep its essence - would work nicely as an online series (animated or otherwise), with the audience voting at key points as to what happens next (ie, kill Lebedev or not?).

Except, of course, that'd be pointless, because you might as well just go play the game. razz

I chose Max Payne because it's so fun to play & it'd be great to have all the gameplay recreated in a film, complete with sexy Mona Sax, but most of your choices are very filmic anyway so Zelda would be the most original choice.

A game not included that I would like to see as a movie is Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Star Wars: Knights of the old republic, gives you a better movie experience then any of the movies. The twist is crazy and i never would have guessed it. THAT should be made into a movie, but seeing that its not on the list, Metal Gear would be nice.

The Legend Of Zelda has always been a favorite of mine. It's just such an epic story (all of the games), and I think they could transfer the phenomenon to a different media using a plot for the next game or something to that extent. The games have a classic good versus evil plot but it also has some things that we haven't seen in movies for a while like Hero saves the Princess plot. All these things could be tied together rather easily with a Zelda movie making for an epic film.

Half-Life, Half-Life, Half-Life. That is the best single player first person shooter WORLD when it comes to story. Opposing Force and Blue Watch add so much more depth into what's going on it's not funny. You should have added HL to the list.

Also, i'd enjoy Final Fantasy VII as a movie...but it would span days to watch.

Well, FFVII: Advent Children IS coming as a movie sequel to the game.

Anyways to cast my vote. Metal Gear Solid in CG directed by none other than Hideo Kojima himself. Enough said.

I would really love to see Halo as a film, if I were to choose any from that list. Simply because, the guy who wrote the story to Halo is an excellent author and all of his other books if you read them are more than applicable as possible film material.
His name is Eric S. Nylund
His books are: Pawn's Dream, A Game of Universe, Dry Water, A Signal to Noise, A Signal Shattered, Halo: Combat Evolved and another book he has written as co author (crimson skies or something like that. I think it's being turned into a video game too).

I would take Zelda any day of the week, but only if done right. I have trouble however, imagining it.

I choose "Hitman". it's a pretty good game (the second one, I haven't played the first one yet), and the plot for both would work in a movie adaptation well. You could make it as gory, or as 'clean' as you wanted, and there would be lots of action (although of the stealth/thriller kind.)

What about that game where the guy is falling and you have to catch him with the hay wagon, or whatever? It should star Jim Caviesel.

Id like to see Max Paybe made into a film, i think it would be good and there are other games that i think could make good movies if done right

Silent Hill - maybe not live action maybe like final fantasy the spirits within

Monkey Island - I think it could be done live action but again maybe this would be best in CGI.

Id like to see Metal Gear Solid a film but im afraid someone would get hold of it and destroy it with there own ideas.

I wish that someone would make a new Resident Evil movie, i really do i think it may of been the one film that i was SO disapointed with when it came out it angered me that something that had so much potential as a movie turned out to be absolute pile of crap...

I was going to say a Final Fantasy 7 movie but in a way its already in the making, apart from its set after the events of the game, its the same style as The Spirits Within and does look pretty damn nice at the minute.

thats all i can think of for now, but im sure i may add some

The new Resident Evil trailer is really amazing, HOWEVER! I think it would be tremendously better if it were more of a teaser, and didn't tell us at all that it's for Resident Evil. If it were just some skin creme from Umbrella, that would have been genius.

Also, sidey, Full Throttle would be a great movie. So would The Dig though. Who's with me? Huh? HUH!?

Metal Gear Solid 2'S story is superior to the first in my opinion...

But it would make a great film. I read something a few years back that the guy who made MGS2 was talking to the wacho bros (matrix) about a mgs film.. may av been a rumour tho

i know there is a new resident evil movie but i cant see how it can be better then the first, i have hope for it as some parts of it sound better, but i think it would be cool to see a resident evil film that goes into the mansion and into the woods into the lab under the mansion and into the shark lab, the first game could be made into a pretty awesome horror film if you ask me,

The remake, and RE:0 were both awesome. I can't wait for RE:4. I haven't seen the RE:Movie2 trailer, but I do hope it's better then the first, although the first wasn't THAT bad. The ending of the first movie seemed to point more to a story based on RE:3 Nemesis (c.b.d. Jill's escape from Racoon City.)

I've picked up some rumours that Prince of Persia is being made into a movie.

Maybe it'll just go the way of the idea scrapheap like Eternal Darkness and Perfect Dark and they'll forget about it, but I think Prince of Persia would be a really fun movie. smile

Johnny Depp as the prince.

Aculag: the first one was going to be called Nemesis. That creature in the end of the first movie was nemesis. but they decided to just keep it as Resident Evil. The teaser has been out for almost 5 months now for the second film.

Er-no: Prince of persia IS a game..do you mean movie?

And for all of you who want to see Max Payne as a movie then just wait for The Punisher to come out and then watch the matrix right after. theres your max payne for ya!

Aculag, you should go into video marketing. You always make brilliant comments about what someone should have done.

Personally, I choose either Zelda or Metroid(yes I'm a Nintendo fanboy.) If it was Zelda, Ocarina of time or A Link to the Past. Probably OoT though. I'm making one myself.

Screw that man... No one wants to see a film where a kid goes to 8 castles filled with little keys and one large key... How many variations of camera shots could there be to an opening chest animation?

Metal Gear Solid would make an alright movie... I hear the next movie/game thing is "Dungeon Siege" god help us all...

I reckon they should make a parappa the rapper movie, great storyline.

But seriously, Silent Hill wins. Not even a competition.

Read what I said. I didn't say Ocarina, and actually in general I meant the land of Hyrule - any very good epic storyline can be built around the great land.

It'd be like the land of the Dark Crystal. Yet lots better, with elf like people (hyrulians) and all the other mobs from the series.

Zelda with Peter Jackson and 170million gets my vote smile

Dear god man. MGS is a failed movie as it is. Whoever the guy is that makes those games clearly wanted to be a movie director but never quite made it, so instead makes rubbish b-movies in a 'game' format, but in which the gameplay only consists of about 10% of its running time.

I hear the next movie/game thing is "Dungeon Siege" god help us all...
It was a pretty game, but had no story, so that's a bit of an odd one.

Deus Ex rights were bought ages ago...can't see them doing a good job of that though.

A Max Payne comedy film could rock.

Yes, I know. I wasn't being serious.

I don't get why people take Max Payne so seriously...the only way it is any good (story/writing-wise, that is) is if you take it as a comedy/noirish spoof. If you don't take it as a spoof, then it's just plain awful...take it as a comedy and it's quite amusing.

Unfortunately I get the feeling that the creators of the game were being deadly serious when they made it...which is a bit embarassing.

Fun to play though. The first one, anyway.

They saw it as a over the top homage to film noir. The creators, that is. That they're all mad moviefreaks is something that jumps right at your face when you play the game. Especially if you actually LISTEN to the dialogues. It's pretty much all quotes or near quotes. smile

Great game that is.

What about an Unreal Tournament game? Especially if they spent tons on having different futuristic locations. And A Medal of Honour game would grip me.

Surely Saving Private Ryan is basically Medal Of Honor the movie? As fas as I know, Spielberg initiated the MOH games after making that film.

Thankfully MOH:AA (the only one I've played) has all the action, suspense and grit without the heavy-handed moralising and "oh, war is bad" overly-played message.

That's why I'd like a MOH movie. One that's pure action for the sake of it, brought to life as the games are, with gripping missions like the game.

SPR is good but it is cliched sometimes & over cheesy. We need a movie equivalent of MOH as an alternative!

I always consider SPR to be an excellent film with a dodgy script. Every aspect about it is exemplary (acting, filming, effects, music, production design, sound etc etc), except for the script itself, which drags the whole enterprise down.

Splinter Cell would be quite cool...but I only could picture it being a short movie than a feature length movie...cause who the hell wants to see a guy sneeking around a place the whole time...

I'd personally like to see Frogger made into an insane action movie cool .

But out of that list, I'm going to have to go with Zelda. I've always gotten this feeling of being brought into the story when I play a Zelda game, something most other games don't do.

Zelda: OoT remains the greatest game of all time in my mind. You FEEL the story. It's not a game anymore when you're playing. It's like a movie... but more real. That wud make an awesome movie.

Yea i agree Zelda is one of the coolest games out there smile

Even the ones for gameboy!

YOU FORGOT METROID!!!

METROID OWNS ALL THESE GAMES.....

That would be a seriously tight movie...Metroid(working on title.Any sugggestions for a good title on a metroid movie?)

They should make a movie out of Knights of the old republic...(Thats a joke for all you people who think there have been enough starwars movies...)

The rights to a Metroid movie have already been purchased by some studio. (I can't remember who)

The Japanese whould probably call our movies lame then...

No no, I think it was by a rather large American based studio. I remember hearing from Nintendo that some test shots were being done in Australia with some special effects sequences.

Not sure what became of that though.... Indeed, a Metroid film could be made very well.

Here are the games that HAVE to be made into movies:

Adventure (Atari 2600 iirc) - The mutant ducks! The vampire bat! The single block character! The giant arrow...erm...sword!

Zero Wing - Who wouldn't pay to see Christopher Walken say "All your base are belong to us!"

Wolfenstein 3D - The original. Forget Doom!

Anything by Jeff Minter - Preferably Attack of the Mutant Camels.

Paradroid (Quazatron) - Robots on a space-ship.

Lol, actually, i wrote a script to Pong, The Movie, but unfortunatly it was already done, sort of, in a flash. I just felt that even though mine had nothing todo with what the flash dealt with, I decided to just, you know, let it go.
