So I've spent 6 hours trying to make my first plug in. Wasted time rebuilding my Photoshop files, rebuilding plug ins in OS 9 and OS X. No good. This was the message I got everytime I tried to use my new plug in I made:

"Director Player Error Script Error: Continue?

I checked on the forums for some help. I noticed other people (seems like only us Mac users) are having this same problem. So I got to thinking... "Script Error."

So I opened up a script of a plug in I download of TIE Fighter stills. Here it is, notice the part in orange:

[effectname:"Tie Fighter Stills", author:"TMM", website:"www.vermillion-studios.co.uk/tmm/", effectdate:"date( 2002, 8, 6 )"]
[#layers: 1, #varcol: 0, #varcolnumber: 11, #loop: 1]
[]
[0]
["helpdata": "", "helpfile": ""]
["borderx": "", "bordery": "", "offsetx": "", "offsety": "", "offsetrotation": ""]

So then I looked at my script. Again, notice the part in orange:

[effectname:"Enterprise_A", author:"Superman", website:"", effectdate:"date( 2003, 11, 20 )"]
[#layers: 1, #varcol: 0, #varcolnumber: 10, #loop: 1, #startlength: 30]
[]
[<Void>]
["helpdata": "", "helpfile": ""]
["borderx": "", "bordery": "", "offsetx": "", "offsety": "", "offsetrotation": ""]

For some reason, Plugger is not making the proper code!

So the solution? I copied the line from the working script, pasted it over the "<Void>" text in my script, and did a fresh reload of my plug in and tried it.

It works!

So hopefully this helps those of you with the same issues. Remember, you have to physically remove the plug in and reload it, or else AlamDV2 doesn't know it changed, and it won't work.

Another reason the plugins don't work when made in OS X is because the plugger copies ALL the files in the folder, and attempts to place them all in AlamDV. The problem is the .DS_store file (a hidden file) is copied, and is tried to open when put into AlamDV. BEWM! It crashes.

Actually, I had these same problems in OS 9 (not Classic, straight OS 9). And... I used Snitch to make all invisible files visible in the folders so I could trash that .DS File... Still wouldn't work. The only thing I could find wrong was that <Void> line in the script... *shrugs*

Good work for working out the trouble, superman!

Hopefully this will help other users make plugins, and we may see a sudden boom in the plugin section!

LOL

I've been using the crap out of those TIE stills. I'm making a SW spoof and they are perfect. smile

This whole thing started when I couldn't find a plug in with the Enterprise (I plan to make the Empire Vs. The Federation) and so I decided to make a plug in with some images I sponged from the web... I was ready to just go get drunk I was so annoyed...
