Lets say im trying to do a light saber scene... How do i make the effect last longer than one frame? I try right clicking on the ) and dragging but it doesnt work, im so confused. And with a muzzle flash, i want to make that last more than one frame too. How do i do that? Its basically how do i use special effects to make them last a little longer.

The method you describe does work...ensure you're clicking on the right parts of the effect - check the video tutorial if you need to. Sometimes it can be a little tricky to get hold of the out-point of an effect, but right clicking and dragging a few times should do it, if not immediately.

Right-click on the blue line to extend how far you want the effect to go to. Then left-click on the little "*" on the duration bar of the effect and drag it to where you put the blue line.
