Chromanator release date and pre-orders

Chromanator is our brand new, fully-featured compositing package. With advanced keying functions that are specially optimised for miniDV footage, a powerful timeline animation system and many grading and effects tools, Chromanator can provide professional results at a price that enthusiasts can still afford.

We're now happy to announce the official Chromanator release date as the 29th December 2003. However, there's no need to wait until then as you can pre-order the compositing package right now, which will give you up to a 10% discount off the normal price - as well as 500 extra force points and you'll get the program before anybody else on the planet! Visit the FXhome.com store for more details.

Chromanator - the ideal Christmas present!

Website revamp

FXhome.com had been in its original incarnation for nearly six months, and we felt it was time to make some improvements. This new look has been prepared especially for Chromanator's arrival. We've changed the colour scheme slightly, introduced a few new features and streamlined other areas - we hope you'll all like the alterations!

There is a new Chromanator info section, which we'll be expanding as the release date nears, as well as the brand new shop, which Malone has been busy building for many months. The shop is far more sophisticated than our old one, providing customers with automatic discounts where applicable and enabling full control of your shopping basket.

This is just the beginning, as over the next few months we'll be continuing to add new content as AlamDV3 and DigiGrade are also released. The website will be an evolving process, so we'd love to hear any ideas you guys might have, or things you'd like to see.

It's a very exciting time, and one that will hopefully result in a great boost to the FXhome.com community.

Thanks guys, the Chromanator info pages will be up soon with more information than ever before and a bunch of screenshots. smile

I would also like to thank the rest of the team for working so hard on everything - we are nearly there.

Malone has done an amazing job on this site update, its looking great. The new shop with the automatic discounts is a great addition and behind the scenes all the admin stuff is better than ever - Malone is the master.

Would also like to thank Xcession for his design help and Charlie "Bud Chipowski" Vincent for being the face of all our new products.

The big day is coming up fast now (and I don't mean Christmas) better get back to the coding biggrin

Amazing. I was checking this site earlier today during my first class in school, and I kept hitting huge errors. I decied to check back during the last class of the day, and I must say, I'm mighty darn surpised! (This might sound weird, but last night I had a weird dream where this website was totally revamped. And it happened in real life, albeit diferently.)

Now I must go and discover more about this wonderful site. (I'm liking the "Mac" style icons and colors.

Chromantor looks like a very cool program. I have no green-screen unfortunately. Definitely looking forward to DigiGrade as that's something I've been wanting to do to my movies for a long time now. As usual, great work guys! Best of luck.

And white against a light blue background makes everything hard to read. Really hard.

It comes out AFTER christmas so it doesn't really change christmas at all.

by funboxes gone i assume the "hot news" stuff and recent posts....

Makes me wonder, you wait FOREVER to release a program but you will change the website without full features and with bugs (force sabers)

what the dilly?

There is no lightsword bug, you just need to refresh or clear your cache. smile If you are getting an odd looking site that seems a mixture of new and old, or images that just look really odd press ctrl-F5 a few times or clear your cache, it should fix everything for you.

Malone is making a new fun box system which should be better for everyone.

Great new site smile

Just wondering, ( and you'll proberly have a good answer for this ) why not have pay pal aswell, eg:
I have money in my pay pal account and would find it easy to transfer money.
Also younger people have pay pal accounts as they don't need to do the credit card route and could buy without having to ask parents.

Just a thought ?

Ahhhhhh

thanks schwar - i didn't think the dark blue went well with the new colours.... crazy - haha

much better.

I would definately agree with the pay pal idea.
I did not have a credit card last year - so i made a pal pal account and hooked it up with my bank account so i could bid on stuff on ebay (i now have a credit card tho so it dont matter lol). But for those who dont have a credit card, hooking their account up with pal pay makes it work!

site looks much better now haha
When the funboxes come back will there be a link under the community to go straight to hot news like b4?

Woah! I got so excited when I saw that release date. Really got my heart pumping. Anyway, I got a question: Pre-ordering is 5% off, and buing or owning Alam DV 2 is 10% as far as I understand. So are those one or the other, or do gold users get both discounts? Either way's great, just curious. I CANT WAIT!!!!

Standard pre-order is a 5% discount. AlamDV2 gold user discount is also 5%. At the moment AlamDV2 gold users get both the 5% pre-order discount and the 5% gold user discound - total 10% off.

With PayPal you can get a debit/atm card with a Visa (maybe Mastercard?) logo. This allows you to use your PayPal balance wherever Visa/Mastercard is accepted. This also makes it so that the good folks at FXHome don't have to pay the PayPal fees. I got one awhile ago, its really nice to have. It didn't cost anything to get either. Check it out:

The forums and the rest of the site nee to be scalable, because it sucks having the little info frame on the side and needing to constantly scroll sideways.

Hey guys, great work with everything! I really like the response time and the responses themselves to all the new stuff! I'm just ITCHING for Chromanator now...ooh I can taste it...anyway, I have another ordering question. It may be stupid, but here it is: Is there a cutoff date for pre-orders, or will the pre-order discount be available all the way up to the 28th? Thanks!

I am tempted to preorder but would like an answer to a question. Will Chromanator trully have superior capability when it comes to handling poorly done green screening? I love my Vegas Video, but to get a perfect chroma composition, the chroma screen really needs to be perfectly lit which is something that is not always possible.

I looks like it does a great job. Look at the second to the last picture on the link below. Its pretty impressive, considering how uneven the lighting is.

I think they said this was done with just the standard greenscreen pass and no special options, which will only make it better.

I ordered, because they turn out a quality product and they haven't let me down yet.

Later,

John cool

Show me the results you are currently getting (post an image) and I'll tell you what Chromanator does better. You should be able to make a pretty decent key with Chromanator from most greenscreen footage, and it has tons of power to tweak it and add freehand garbage mattes to get it just right.

On top of that it offers powerful grading and powerful animation.

Well, my credit card is busy recovering from a GL2 purchase, and 5% of $85 isn't really much of an incentive so I'm holding off .... buy just for now.

What I'm most anxious to see is the results that everyday users with everyday cameras and backdrops start to post after the product is released. When that stuff starts showing up looking awesome, I'll be happy to pay 5% extra for it. smile

Nice job on the site guys.
Looks really good.

Have fun!

Aside from greenscreen / bluescreen keying, what does Chromanator do? I'm currently looking into some comprehensive keying solutions and specifically dvGarage's dvMattePro for AE.

Well for one thing, Chromanator is better than dvMattePro.... and cheaper. I think it will have some small grading options and stuff.

Those info pages are FANTASTIC!

I'm really impressed by not just the specs, but the style and finess used. What a great idea to explain just what compositing is and how in can be used in terms of movies that people have probably already seen.

Of course, in addition to all that, the feature list looks REALLY awesome!

I've added the link to the Amateur Movie Portal.
Can't wait to see everyone's composits!

Have fun.

Personally, I loved AlamDV first design for the website. I didn't like that much the AlamDV2 look, and hated the last dark look, but I LOVE THIS ONE! Good Job!!

I also think it looks much tidier centered on the screen, and you've done it without squashing anything either...

Pre-orders will stop after Christmas but we're not sure exactly what do.

CSB-Digital and FXhome is a full time job. You couldn't program 3 video applications for Mac and PC and create a website like this as a part time thing. We all work far more than we should. I think my hair is going grey and I'm only 24 wink

Chromantor looks like a very cool program. I have no green-screen unfortunately. Definitely looking forward to DigiGrade as that's something I've been wanting to do to my movies for a long time now. As usual, great work guys! Best of luck.
Chromanator isn't only greenscreen. It does all different types of compositing. greescreening is just one part of the package
