I'm at the time where I'm the one getting the presents for everyone and nobody knows what to get me (as there are only few things i want - but they are VERY expensive). I don't like petty little things, rather useful things so getting christmas gifts for me is always difficult. Off the top of my head, i got some nice new nylon guitar strings, a bag to carry lots of shit in, some cool book on business, but most importantly, money. Not as much as i had spent on everybody else, but it helped balance the money i spent somewhat. I think there's more from other relatives but can't remember and not all have been able to come (i was working 3-11 today - time and a half pay baby - ya!)

I don't think you got software to run on a typewriter. But, I saw someone that got a mac and final cut express. I think that's pretty nice.

hope you all enjoyed Christmas.
I got a few albums, dvds etc... I never realised how funny the Office was
I also got a new keyboard cos my old one was all sticky and had cat hair wedged between the keys, I got myself one of those wireless ones and they're great. Extrememly reliable - Logitech Wireless Optical Desktop MX
I also got one of those water things you find in offices, but a mini desk version. So if I need a drink, I no longer need to get off my ass and goto the kitchen!
I have to say after Christmas I still seem to have pleantly left in my wallet, So I may get a CSB product now

Is it just me or is all this discussion of what people got, tasteless and innapropriate. Stop gloating about what you got and think of those who didnt... or who have still got family in Iraq or wherever !
We are here to discuss filmmaking and special effects, even though this is the "general chat" forum, you are alienating some members of this board with the "I got more than you materialism"..
Cut it out please... Nuff Said..
(P.S. Im not being the net police here this is just my opinion but I want to keep what respect I had for you guys!)

That's the point - this is the general chat, anything goes.
Jesus man! Don't be such a Grinch! Most of us here are teens/kids, Christmas is one of the best times a year for us. We're all friends here, I think we should be able to brag a bit about our presents. Don't you remeber what it was like to be a kid? I bet at that time you couldn't hold back your excitement on Christmas morning.
And just because we're bragging about our gifts doesn't mean that we aren't thinking about people in the world that are less fortunate than us. That's part of the Christmas spirit to too, giving. I know I gave some money to the bell-ringers.
Lighten up man!

Thankyou, discussion and agreement, thats better.. I'll give it +1 to show no hard feeleing about being accused of being a grinch
I just think that you have some people here who are "saving up for a copy of AlamDV" and others who get given Apple Macs, Video cameras and Copies of Expensive Software for Christmas.. Well, good for you for thinking about others ...
But, It is a discussion forum and we are all entitled to our opinions... So, I can be a hypocrite and join in with the christmas good cheer... What did Santa bring me.. hmm, A Box of after dinner mints, Some Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, Some Bath Towels and a ZX-9R to replace the 5 year old fireblade in the garage.. I guess I have to give that to the missus now..

having good equipment and or computer (i have both haha) doesn't mean anything you do is automatically better. Someone could make a better film with a sony handycam than someone with a gl2. The quality of your equipment does not have a "BIG" affect on anyones work.
look at old films - You think they had crazy computers and software for the original star wars? Computers today are faster - doesn't automatically mean anyone can make something equivalent or better.
Still cool to get all that stuff tho. Im happy with my skis haha

I got a new office chair as my old chair was getting a bit soft as I'm sitting at my computer nearly 24/7
Treated myself to a new keyboard to help my bad wrist - there was a really cool $250 one but I couldn't afford that so I got like a regular cordless one for $50 - very happy with it, its my first cordless keyboard (magic I tell you).
Got lots of chocs as usual and a nice photo from my girlfriend
OH YEAH, I found the Karate Kid DVD box set while present shopping so I nabbed that as well
Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas.
P.S. TMM got me some chocs and mini Star Wars lego which I enjoyed making loads - brings back memories

All of you go out and buy the El Mariachi / Desperado double DVD
As many of you are probably aware, El Mariachi is one of the world's lowest budget movies.
The DVD comes with a 'Ten Minute Film School' Feature, in which the director explains how he made the film.
It was one of the most interesting and inspiring dvd features I have ever watched, some of the techniques he used were shockingly creative. He didn't even record sound with the camera, he used a seperate recorder to record all the essential soundfxs and speech which he manually synced them back onto the video.
I won't go into too much detail but It's a really great clip and I'm positive all of you would enjoy it. Infact, I suggest all of you try and see it
Anyone interesting in buying it, it's available for £8 http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=1806&p=57&c=&g=72
As for the Desperado, I'm saving it for another night and I'll really look forward to seeing how he improved accross the two movies.

Not just that but you got tons from each one!
Oh I forgot to say what I got. Didn't get so much this year cos I am old, but never anywhere near what TMM got! My main presents were a couple of interesting computing books and the indiana jones dvd boxset. I also got some puzzles cos I like having something to do on christmas day when I have to sit around with family and stuff. Atm I am very frustrated with a simpsons mini rubiks cube puzzle which I seem to have got into an unsolvable position. Even the cheats in the manual and online solvers can't do it!
Slick: not to take too much of a shine off your e-bay aquisitions but if they were 2nd hand rather than unopened then that's just as illegal as downloading them off kazza or something! Although you might have just got a very good deal I suppose. And at least you get paper mamuals rather then pdfs, woo.
