Hi,

Many people are allways posting posts, based on why their other posts have dissapeared/been deleted.
Would it be possible so that when a post is deleted, the author is notified via PM or Email?

Seems like a good idea to me...

I think the majority of mods do pm the topic starter when their post is going to be deleted (unless its obvious why it should be deleted). I usually do this otherwise people end up posting the same things again. Unfortunately I don't have time to pm every user who has posted in the topic, which admittedly can leave a few people in the dark about where its gone.

Usually you can make a good guess at why topics get removed, but if you really want to find out you could pm the topic starter who is most likely to know.

We were wondering why my 'Blood Impact' post was deleted...
I can't see a logical reason why it was, but I'd like to know why because It had some great links in it which I didn't save.

Obviously, expecting you to PM everybody is a crazy idea. What I meant, is an automatic script in the forum that does it for you biggrin

I never personally read that topic so I'm afraid I don't know why it was deleted.

Modifying the forum to PM everyone everyone that has posted to a topic would be a major undertaking. I think it would also result in people getting a lot of junk PMs when old posts are routinely deleted.

A better way might be to replace the topic with a deletion message/reason for a few days before it finally disappears. That way, the people want to know the reason can read it for themselves. And the people that are not interested dont get their inboxes filled with junk. Im not sure how easy that would be to implement either, but I could look into it.

Any thoughts are appreciated

Just to allow those other people that have already commented on this to be involved.

Whatever you think is best Malone, after all my post was titled 'Deleted Post Notification'

If there was just some way of making a deleted posts list somewhere - Like in the funboxes. The only thing wrong about your suggestion, is that there are lots of posts that are deleted and it'd clog up the forums (that's the idea of deleting posts anyway?)

Thinking about it, it'd be fine to just delete them. But when someone deletes a post with 3 pages of replies (like the blood one) it does tend to confuse people. Perhaps, the moderators should be more careful and post warnings in long posts, not just delete them.

Sorry B4UASK, I didn't realise you'd allready suggested this. Atleast I have got Malone's attention this time

Maybe the deleted posts could be moved to a 'trash' forum before they are finally deleted. That would get them out the way.

The problem with long topics is they can sometimes go off course and become flame wars. We try to stop these as soon as possible, usually by posting messages trying to get it back on track. Unfortunatly some topics are impossible to keep on track and cause more problems than they are worth. So they have to be deleted even if it means we lose some of the original decent discussion.

I did think of a 'Trash Forum' but thought that you wouldn't want it on the forum list page, as you've organised it so neatly.
