Chromanator Pre-Release 2 released for Mac and PC
In this update we're introducing some new features as well as fixing all the bugs that were reported with the PR1. Thanks to all the beta testers and the users that helped us improve Chromanator.
A full list of changes can be found by clicking here. PR2 is fully backwards-compatible, so you will still be able to load your old saved projects. There's no reason to wait, so go download the brand new Chromanator now!
The Chromanator demo will be out tomorrow.
Mac OS X version
With PR2 we're pleased to finally be able to release Chromanator for OS X. We'd like to apologise for the extra wait that all our Mac users had to endure - the conversion progress took a little longer than expected.
If you haven't already contacted us regarding your Mac OS X key file, please do so as soon as possible. Email email@example.com and let us know that you are a Mac user in order to receive your correct key file.
This first Mac release is fully up-to-date with the Windows PR2 version, so now Mac users can start chromanating as much as their PC counterparts!
We hope you all like the update, let us know what you think.

Beyond the updates and bug fixes listed above there have been many more. Chromanator's conversion to Mac was quite complicated but on the way it has been made to use far less processor than before and is little bit faster over all.
You can also now open .chromanator files by double-clicking on them, although only if Chromanator isn't open.
NOTE TO MAC USERS:
At the moment we have no control over the Quit action unless you select it from our file menu. Using the short cut Apple-Q will just quit the program without asking if you want to save. I'm currently talking to Macromedia about what options we have - we'll sort something out as soon as possible.

OK, maybe the problem is related to my email program, because the key file info at the bottom of my email from FX team was mostly random characters. However, when I try to open the program to enter the key file, it asks me to select my key file from my hard drive. What's the secret to entering a key file?

Make sure you put the macosx key in and not the windows.

You have to save the keyfile to your hard drive, then select it when it asks you.
Wonderful program boys! I've added my mattes in The Low, Down Of It, and will upload it to the cinema later tonight! Nice and fast! Lovin it.

Thanks very much for responding. Again, this may be related to the fact that I didn't get the entire email from FX. How do I save my key file to the hard drive? It was received in an email on my office PC. My real computer is at home.

My internet email was all silly. I forwarded it to my office email service and the keyfile got sorted. I then saved it to my HDD and was able to install it. For more info:
Take a look at this thread that er-no started.Common How to's on Chromanator's install
Read the whole thread there are several suggestions to resolving what you describe.
PS Mac users: Dont forget to email firstname.lastname@example.org
if you have not recieved your new OSX keyfile. The original one they sent to you will not work for OSX.
Hope this helps
THANKS for updates CSB!

Sorry if I sound like a little cranky, but I have been at this for several hours. I appreciate the advice given by users and have been following recommended links. Unfortunately, the seemingly most relevant one to my problem (http://fxhome.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11716) is listed as non-existant. The issue, which I seem to have in common with multiple users on the PC side, is that various email programs handle attachments differently and therefore the key file doesn't download to the hard drive in a universal manner. I wonder about the wisdom of having this (and future) programs getting unlocked by this attachment key mechanism. Whatever happened to just typing in one's key code to unlock a program?? I still have no access to the program I paid for weeks ago because it can't find its key file!

if you are able to see the contents of the file are you able to copy and paste it to a txt file and save as "all files" type? (i.e. without the .txt extention)
If so, try copying it and naming the new text file the same as the attachment.
I wonder if I should split this thread and move this part to the Chromie help section?

PLEASE HELP!!! Okay, this is whats going on: I've installed it and deleted and reinstalled it four or five times now. I've downloaded the keyfile in two using two different mail progs. It installs fine. It downloads fine as far as I can tell. It opens at first, and asks me to find the keyfile. I find it, click open, and then it says "Script error; continue?" and gives me a yes/no choice. I click yes, it says it again. I click no and it does it once more. I click no again and it closes. I'm not a genius and I can't find the problem. The only thing I can think of is that when I got my PR 1 key for windows, I thought it was a text file with a code in it (silly me din know any bettuh
) so I opened it and chose to open it in MS Word. So now that seems to be the default setting, like it thinks it's a Word document. Unfortunatly, I dunno how to undo this preference. And even if I did, I can't garuntee that that is the problem. I'm totally bummed out here! THIS IS MY DESPERATE CRY FOR ASSISTANCE!! (Please excuse any misspellings on big words)

Basically chromanators folder, on windows, C:\Program Files\Chromanator\
On mac I think its applications, chromanator, stick it in there.

Actually, on mac it doesn't matter where you save the file. Just save it somewhere and choose it when you start it up.

Mr_E_Man - rename the key to "ChromanatorMacOSX.csbkey" then try.

Make sure you downloaded the right one from the MACOSX email sent today. Not the one sent when the windows came out.

YARR!! I'm so frustrated now! Okay, lemme see...I have the right key...I put it in my docs folder...open it up, choose it, get script error...every time! Now, the only bad thing as far as I can see is the the *.csbkey file type is, sadly, set up to open with Word on default now, and I dunno how to change it. I tried doing "open with" but it won't let me select chromy. I could use an OS X expert right about now...

I'm using Mail that comes on OSX, but I also tried it with AOL from the aol.com/mail.whatever part of the page. As far as I can tell, it seems to be downloading correctly, but my computer has this dire urge for it to be a text file. Another strange thing that might be of use...This is my family computer, so we use the user switching feature and such. When I switched to my dad's account (the admin) and tried opening it from there, it said "Your keyfile seems to be invalid" and then gave me the "director player error, script error" message again. By the way, sorry if I flipped out a lil on the last post, I'm just so eagar to try Chromy!

Mr_E_Man: have you recieved two seperate e-mails with keys attached?
If not, you are using the wrong key. All of us Mac users originally were sent a windows key with everyone else. That one is not gonna work. You should have recieved a secod e-mail hopefully, saying that Mac users should contact the csb crew to get a proper OS X key. On the odd chance you haven't done this yet (I know it's been mentioned before in this thread), that could cause a problem. Contact Malone and ask him for the right key.

I've got 2 main systems here, an Athlon 2600+ and a G4 933MHz. The Mac version is faster than I expected (AlamDV2 on the Mac is very slow) but on my Mac its quite a bit slower than on my PC.
The PC seems to be 20-50% faster but then its hardly a fair test - a 2.4 GHz Althon vs a 933MHz G4 - all things considered its really doing quite well. Would love to test it out on a high end G4 or a new G5 where I expect it flies along.
Anyone using it on a big G5 yet?
