Hmm seems to me like it's just gonna be another typical action movie (guns, women....).

He isn't big enough to be the Punisher...he looks to be 5'6" 5'7" and barely has any muscle mass...The comic book Punisher is huge. This movie also doesn't appear to have the gore that Punisher fans are accustomed to. In the comics he is blowing off halves of heads and arms, ripping out kidneys and intestine...if you are gonna make a Punisher movie do it right...Speaking of gory comic book movies I'm proud to announce that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller will be co-directing Sin City (the best comic ever!) This movie is gonna be an amalgamation of 3 Sin City graphic novels, all filmed here in Austin!

I'm not familiar with Sin City, but I liked Miller's Dark Knight Returns. I'll have to get hold of Sin City...it's on my list, just below V For Vendetta. smile

I'm still waiting for Hayter's Watchmen...fingers crossed.

sin city is great! but it wont be out for awhile which sucks..the punisher will be a little gory but not gory enough as someone was saying earlier..but you have to take in account to the people that will be seeing this movie. all those little kids out there will see this movie because it is a superhero movie. it will be a good movie, i think thomas jane will be great. he looks great and he isnt 5'6,5'7. he is like 6'1. he is a tank and i dont think anyone else could be a better punisher. Did you guys hear about the Green Arrow? kevin smith...heh biggrin

I really looked forward to the Punisher, until I watched the trailer. One can only hope that the film won't be as terribly lame as the trailer.

Well they list him at 6' which means he is 5'9 or 5'10, and he is no tank...Dolph Lundgren (the original Punisher)is a tank but sucks so much as an actor...and he isn't very intimidating. They should have got some big ass mofo like Goldberg or Stone Cold Steve Austin size...a huge guy...that can kick your ass without thinking...

i think thomas jane is a tank..did you see the size of his arms??? plus you dont want someone over exagerated like goldberg, stone cold, etc..thats just pathetic. it needs to be realistic, bare in mind the story is so unlikely to ever happen in real life but still..

i do agree the trailer was bad, but im sure they kept everything thats good abuot that movie in the movie and not in the trailer.

I never even said that i wanted stone cold or goldberg...i said somebody of a comparable size who can act, wait screw it the Punisher rarely talks all he has to do is grunt and crap then rip off someone's head...that is the kind of movie i wanna see! Thomas "Jane" what a girly name...he couldn't even intimidate a pack of girl scouts. how the hell is he gonna take out the whole mob...not gonna happen...

Nope, they're a story/art medium, just like prose novels, movies, TV, painting etc.

And as with all those mediums, they can be exaggerated and over-the-top, or they can be small and subtle. The misconception that comics can only be brash and loud makes me cranky.

Come on Tarn most comic books are exaggerated versions of reality, and Punisher is particularly unreal. The only reason that I posted that comment the way i did was because elementcinema made a complete 180 in the middle of his statement.

ok bud, first of all they ARE over exagerated versions or reality..i never opposed to that at all.
and i know what yuo meant by goldberg or stone cold..im not stupid. but why over-exagerate the over-exagerated? eh? the punisher is not a HUGE tank like goldberg at all. have you even read the comic? the punisher HAS dialogue. lots of it too. but what i meant was why make things so un-realisticly stupid it will just make the movie pointless..for example: The Matrix. like come on..this isnt the terminator here. its the punisher. there is no super powers involved..just revenge and hatred towards the ones who killed his family. Sure the story is a bit lame, but just because it sounds a little unoriginal to our generation. but when the punisher was first released it was very original.

oh and we wouldnt want you to get too mad canta and type to hard and break your fingers..repeat after me:
WOOOOOOSSSSAAAAAAHHHH!! unsure pfft

I have no reason to get angry, and I find it hilarious that you think your argument has any validity. Here is some proof that you are wrong...chew on this.

This is a picture of the Punisher, this is a big ass person.

This is a picture of Goldberg, this too is a big ass person.

This is a picture of the Punisher doing what he does best, PUNISHING!!!

Now here is a picture of Thomas Jane (PeeWee Herman with a gun).

Now here is a picture of PeeWee Herman.

The Punisher=BAD ASS!!!

Thomas Jane=Girly man with a gun

im not owning up to anything..you took pictures from recent punisher comic books! and if you were to see any other pictures in the comic book you would realize that when in the same scene as another person the punisher is just as equal size:

check this out: (these are some of the original punisher comics, not the modern shit. plus no one wants to see a cliché punisher.

http://www.thecomicshop.com.au/site2/jpgs/mag-marvelcomics-punisher-4-w.jpg

http://captain-america.us/images/wallpaper/punisher.jpg

http://franck.pissotte.chez.tiscali.fr/comicsvf/bd/punisher-1-b.jpg

http://www.chez.com/uatu/Origines/punisher.jpg

Canta, you have no idea who you are talking to about comic books..
dont tell me this isnt a good punisher=>

http://ffmedia.ign.com/filmforce/image/punisher-jane_288.jpg

http://www.latinoreview.com/films_2004/artisan/thepunisher/images/punisher-2.jpg

and as you can see here:
http://www.ipass.net/chunker/wwcomics/spid129.jpg
this is issue 129 of spiderman (the first app. of the punisher just incase you didnt know that) and there is a scene in the comic where spiderman has a hold of the punisher and spiderman is almost bigger than the punisher..so then would you like me to post some pictures of tobey mcguire compared to goldberg?

Before you go reading your recent modern gay comics that mean nothing because they are just re-writes because they are running out of ideas..please think of thomas jane and how great of a job he will do as the punisher.

Why don't you continue your argument AFTER the movie's released?

Surely then you would have better justification for arguing for the point of view you have.

Oh, & can people STOP using "gay" as a derogatory term? It just shows how narrow-minded people still are in this enlightened, accepting society. I'm not gay but I think people should grow up.

I know that, but you can have a better idea whether it's good casting when the movie comes out.

When Keaton was cast as Batman, people were equally outraged. But when they saw the film...wow

I'm not of the view either way as to whom would do a better job as The Punisher, I'll reserve my judgement for when I see it.

Hahaha...in case you can't see this movie is based on the newer comic books. I don't see Mr. Nancy boy Jane wearing that fruity all black spandex Punisher suit. Do you?

Punisher wearing the same clothes as Thomas Jane, and huge like Goldberg.

Thomas Jane wearing the costume for the character he is based on, but is still way under sized and unintimidating

Fruitier spandex clad Punisher.

Don't get me wrong I love the older punisher comics, but if they were gonna make a new series maybe they should have down sized the character in the book...or upsized the character in the movie. Dolph Lundgren played the first Punisher on the silver screen and he is a beast. All that I'm saying is maybe they should have gotten someone of comparable size to play in this one.

http://www.punisher-art.com/movie/punisher_lobby_card_2.jpg

This is a picture of Dolph Lundgren wearing the same costume as the new punisher in the movie The Punisher made in 1990. Its too big to post here, just click on the link.

This is a pretty fun debate but we are both running out of rocks to throw so lets call it a draw and wait for the movie to come out.

Thomas Jane isn't convincing as the Punisher. All he does well is stare blankly looking upset. What is he gonna do to the mob? Stare them into submission?

Even if the Punisher still needs to remain human for the story to have somewhat of a resonance, you need to believe he can physically accomplish all the stuff he is supposed to be doing, which is take down the mob on his own darn self!!! Thomas Jane looks as wimpy as me! And If I was crazy enough to take down the mob, I would last all but ten seconds! So would Thomas Jane! The identification factor doesn't work here. He doesn't need to be an Arnold type but he needs to be believable as an action hero. Jane isn't. Not one bit...

"you are all so very very WRONG"

please refer to the new punisher trailer:

any comments? he is such a tank and a badass and a cry baby all at the right times. you would be upset too if your family was killed.

i dunno john..for the trailer they had to put in some story right? so we atleast know what the story is about for those who dont. so ofcourse you are going to see thomas being a little bit of a pussy because his family died. but the other parts he just looks intimidating..that bow and arrow scene was sweet. and knowing the punisher as well as i do (comic wise) i know thomas jane, the story, the setting and everything will be very well adapted. punisher is not the type of person you ambush at his own home. he has guns EVERYWHERE. you can see it in a scene of the trailer where he pulls out a cutting board/ drawer and its a gun ingraved in it..hehe. its gold i tell you! GOLD!

It doesnt make sense to have a superhero be incredibally big and strong while his only real power is superb gun fighting. Anyone see the irony in that besides me?
