I was looking in the Cinema upload area and noticed the following text:

In the event that you produce and provide to Joshua Davies Limited trading as CSB-Digital ("CSB") any text, images, movies or sounds ("the Material") you hereby agree to release any intellectual property rights which you may have in the material to CSB and expressly authorise CSB to use the material in any manner or for any purpose whatsoever.
As you do not send us your movies when submitting to the cinema they are not effected by this clause, and remain your intellectual property
Is there an FAQ that describes what that means? first it says that you "provide any text, images, movies" then it says that "as you don't send us your movies" they are not covered.

I don't want to be a jerk, just trying to understand the implications of being told I "release any intellectual property rights" - does that mean I can't even decide if I don't want the movie shown any more or want to upload it to some other film site? and "CSB to use the material in any manner or for any purpose whatsoever" implies they could take my movie and claim it as their own, could sell it for profit, could use the verbiage uploaded as source for spam, anything.

I didn't see any threads covering this.

What it's saying is that anything you create and send to them becomes their property, and they can do anything they want with it. This only comes into effect with plugins, meaning that if you create a plugin and send it to them, they can do whatever with it (as in, distribute it on the site). As the last sentence states, this does not apply to your movies on this site.

Heh, they spelt "affected" wrong. smile

The last line means this - you dont send them your movies....
you send them the link to your movie - therefore anything to do with your movie is still your "intellectual property" or whatnot..

"As you do not send us your movies when submitting to the cinema they are not effected by this clause, and remain your intellectual property "

As you do not send us.......meaning you dont actually send them the movie - they basically put a link on their site to where its located - therfore they dont take any "intellectual rights" to it

Yup, everyone else has covered it pretty well. We added the clause so we have legal rights over the information you provide. This means we can legally add it to the site. It also means in the future we could maybe add it to a cd or other promotional material without being sued. It only covers the things you actually send us (ie the description and thumbnail), the movie itself is not counted and remains your property.
