Anyone playing Unreal Tournament 2004? How do you like it?

I think it's amazing, not just Onslaught mode. I don't remember the Assault mode from 2003, but in 2004 it's brilliant, with your team fighting against weird creatures including giant insects & flies.

Onlsaught mode is great, it's nice to be able to use vehicles, & they are easy to drive & change the perspective. So far, you don't seem to be able to just battle against each other without tasks to accomplish, e.g. protecting & attacking nodes, so I find that a bit annoying, & it'd be nicer to be able to have more one-on-one battles with the aircraft.

Has anyone unlocked the space ships & battled in space yet?

I think I'll be playing this game for quite a while smile

Ok then, what's that like? I hear it's pretty like UT 04, just different eras!

Heh, yeah. Probably comes down more to a matter of personal taste than anything else. UT2004 personally wasn't my kind of thing - although I could see that it was a very cool game, and well made. But it's a bit too fast-paced and scifi to me...

BF:V is essentially the same concept, I guess, just set in Vietnam. Personally that appeals to me as I like the 'realism', even though it is more arcade realism than anything else. But there's just something about taking off in a helicopter, flying over the jungle and the rivers, whilst Ride of the Valkyries blares out of the chopper's speakers, bombing a VC village, landing in a clearing and charging in guns blazing, which just appeals to me far more than flying around in a futuristic scifi hover thingy. razz

UT2k4 is the first pc game ive bought in years, its the first decent fps I've played in ages. The vehicles are just evil twisted (the leviathan has more firepower than any vehicle ive seen in any game, its truly scary) and ill never tire of slicing peoples heads off with the manta. Stealing the enemies tank then running them down with it is also fun smile.

I love the handheld weaponry too; I like to send off a troop of spider mines laden with sticky grenades straight towards the enemy. I've mainly been playing onslaught but theres a whole range of game types I've still gotta try. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes a bit of action. Try the demo here
http://www.unrealtournament.com/ut2004/downloads.php (windows/mac/linux)

Assault mode wasnt in UT2003, but it was in the original UT. The new levels are a lot more involved tho. The thing with all the insects and monsters is called Invasion if I remember correctly. Played a bit of that last night and it was pretty manic smile

I don't think you can really compare UT and BF:V. They are both fps games but the actual gameplay is totally different. Personally I find BF type games to be quite slow and samey, I prefer the continual action and carnage of UT. But like Tarn says its just personal preference, thats why different game genres are made.

Anyway look out for me on the UK UT servers, I go by "malone" on them as well.

/me runs and tells schwar malones been skiving and playing games wink

played the demo when it came out a little while ago, and i thought it was excellent. assault was one of my favourite games in the original UT and I'm glad to see it back. Onslaught is a bit too much hardwork though as far as I'm concerned, too much thinking and not enough blowing zhit up razz Cannonball run is probably my second favourite after assault. Shame I can't afford the full game though, my wallet is sagging under the weight of washing machines and fridges and other non fun things right now sad Might have to check out my local LAN arena for the time being...

I still play the original UT in school with multiplayer.
I never play games, and I found out that UT was extremly funny over network so I might give 04' a go!

UT 2004 is awesome. I can't stop playing it. This is my first UT game I've played, so I can't compare them to other ones. From what I've heard though, this one is much better. I have BF1942 and I didn't like it much, so I'm not planning on getting BF:V. I am Knight_of_Ni for those who play UT04. Oh, and I generally just play Onslaught, Assault, and CTF. Deathmatch is a lot like Half Life's, which I don't particularly enjoy that much, and I tried a match of invasion and it didn't seem that fun either.

Yeah, I can't decide between Battlefield Vietnam or UT 2004. My friend might get UT 2004, so that might help me.

Anybody got Counter-Strike? maybe we could play.

UT2004 is only £18 from play.com if anyone is interested. Pretty good for a brand new game.

I'm really impressed with PLAY.COM,

Most of their NEW PC games are around £17.99
They even gave me a £2 discount, because they didn't dispatch it on the day of release!

By the way, have any of you played Far Cry?
It takes one hell of a machine to run it, but it's visually the most impressive game I've ever seen.

Wow, that price is superb - I spent £30 on mine, & was even considering getting the SE.

You're right malone, it was Invasion I was talking about, but Assault mode is great too.

I'd like to try Splinter Cell but my graphics card doesn't play it - though it does play other great games like MOH, GTA 3 & VC, & plays UT 2004 like a dream.

The next version of UT can only be mega godlike smile

Far cry is freakin awesome, probably the best AI ever created. And the levels and graphics are simply incredible. kinda reminds me of what "duke nukem forever" would have been like. Im running it at full graphics, and it looks at least 12 times better than pandora tommorow.

UT04 is the funnest halo-killer ever made as well.

Battlefield isnt that great, imo

God... why do you do this too me???

My copy of UT 2004 has been ' lost in the post '
It could arrive any day, but more likely it won't.

I placed an order for Far Cry on play.com (supposed to come out last friday) but it's 'Out Of Stock'

Every frekin morning I've been waiting in the kitchen to greet the postman with a nice big smile, and then I notice he isn't carrying any parcels sad

Surely they're obligated to send you another very quickly?

A friend of mine didn't get a TV he ordered, that was "lost in the post" so he got another one in less than a week.

And Far Cry should have arrived too.

Don't know what's up with play.com, they're usually very good. You must be living in a different dimension, or just have a very naughty postie smile

In UT2004 vehicles don't really have an advantage either. You can easily shoot them(down). One shot from the Avril and a manta is gone. Two for a raptor. Atari did a lot to make sure vehicles aren't over powerful.
