Following swiftly on the heels of the PC release, we're now able to unleash the Mac OS X version of Chromanator Gold upon the world! We have also released a minor update to the original PC gold release, to bring both platforms up to version 1.0.2.

Latest update - Chromanator 1.0.2
In addition to all the new features we mentioned in the previous news post (which can be read by clicking here), version 1.0.2 adds a few improvements of its own, so PC users should also download the new version to make sure they are fully up-to-date.

• Improved resolution support for XP machines.

• You can now import presets, enabling you to download and exchange them with ease.

• Improved PNG support.

• Numerous tweaks to the interface.

The Mac OS X and Windows versions can both be downloaded from the Chromanator download page.

And thanks go to...

Making Chromanator was a collaborative affair, and we'd like to say a big thank you to the people that helped us along the way.

The Beta Testers
First up we have our wonderful beta testers, all of whom did a fantastic job getting the program through the final stages. They all went beyond the call of duty to test Chromanator to its limits, always willing to offer their help and time. Many of their ideas made it into the gold version as new features, so they really contributed to making the gold release as stable and powerful as possible.

The beta gang: Jeremy 'TMM' Armstrong, Dave 'xcession' Cranwell, Sam 'Mechaforce' Gorski, Andreas Jendin, Paul 'Meridian' Jennings, Joseph 'AverageJoe' Joyce, Matt 'Fa][en' Marchant, Marco 'Sollthar' Von Moos, Danny 'Hajiku_Flip' Myers, Ben 'Kid' Norris, Ian 'b4uask30male' Paterson, Niko 'Sidewinder' Pueringer, Joby 'er-no' Stephens and Axel 'Axeman' Wilkinson.

The Pre-Orders
Back before the initial release of Chromanator, many of you helped to fund the continued development of the program by investing in the early beta version. Without your support the last few stages of production would have been far more difficult, so we are very grateful to you all.

Our thanks go to: Aculag, AndrewtheActorMan, artie, barfbagger, BDOG, Blade12, blaine, Bowie, Boytronic2002, Brettsta, buts, cantaclaro, Captain_Kirk, cbyrd, constio, CoolKabe, Coop, craig5571, CX3, Exclamation, fanfare96, ferral, FliPPer, Fremmen, GEORGE_MYLONAS, Gerd, Greenhawk, HollywoodWoody, Icken9, jdolman, JediMaster33, juerss, justinsane, kevinmcpoland, majordirector, Mantra, Marek, Mary C Olmsted, masoud, Michael Suzor, montego, Movie_Manic, N8man, nitroviper007, Oily, pboniface, RagingMidget, rcamuk, Redhawksrymmer, RetroWizard, rmendoza, rmw, Serdar3500, sfbmovieco, Sollthar, ssjaaron, The New Guy, video_dude, WiRyPoCkEtLiNt and xencade.

Last but certainly not least...
Special thanks must go to John Davies, Clem, Lyndsey and Jim for their constant support over the years. It is much appreciated by all of us at CSB.

Finally, the biggest thanks has to go to the FXhome community. Your continued enthuasism and contributions to FXhome have made for an exciting few years and your support of our products and the company is something we never take for granted. We hope you enjoy using Chromanator and that we get to see the results of your creativity for many years to come.

What are the chances of making Chromonator like commercial, like selling it in Futureshop's, or just software stores and stuff like that? Like you see Adobe products sold in stores, are you guys going to make a step like that and try it?

The next step is to get the Chromanator demo all up-to-date - I hope this will only take 2 days.

Next we are straight in to getting AlamDV3 out as soon as possible - we will bring you screen shots and product details as soon as we can but we won't be giving any projected release dates until its basically finished.

In the distant future we will be looking in to selling our products in the shops, but the time it takes to sort that kind of thing is many months and we don't know if our current distribution partner will be interested until they have seen the final applications (to them we are a very small and very new company so they don't take any chances).

In the end we can't really say what will happen but at least we are taking decent steps towards a positive future for FXhome.

I dont own chromanator nor have I tried the demo but if it dosent have this already... I think it would be a good idea for you guys to make things such as the time line moveable so that users can customize theyre workspace to meet theyre preferance.

Just a suggestion if you dont already have this.

Hey Schwar, Tarn, and the rest of the CSB crew.

Well, 1.0.2 installed perfectly and is running fine so far! You guys have really outdone yourselves. Just wanted to say a profound thanks for this wonderful new program.

And Schwar...just wanted to let you know that running in Full Screen now works with my Win XP 1280x768 resolution. The taskbar no longer obscures anything.

Awesome guys! Bring on AlamDV3!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't able to earlier, but I must say, I truely think this is one of the best programs ever made! (And that's not an exaggeration, either...) I really think that it has the best production values ever in ANY program. Especially if you factor-in the low-cost. Expect to get my sales in the future. (I'm not sure about wether-or-not I'll be pre-ordering Alamdv3 though. But some screens might change my mind... razz )

I had tried to make a shot in After Effects 5, but it looked HORRIBLE! Then, In Chromanator, it's almost flawless, and that's only using about 3 tools, too! So again, very nice indeed.

-Thank-you very sincerly,
Adam twisted

As much as we would like to show our program doing a great job against a much more expensive option I think we have to just get the demo up and let it do the talking. There are some very strict laws in the UK about using comparisons to advertise a product and posting such images here might count - don't really want Adobe UK having a go at us biggrin .

Guys I am at work so have not actually dopnloaded it but I notice in the download section the windows version still says "version 1.01 installer" (not 1.02) when I hover my mouse over it. Please check.

As I added in another post can I suggest in the download section you add the version number to the "Windows Full Version" title on the link so we know at a glance if we are up to date. Thanks.

All I can say, is that this program rules!!! You have all outdone yourselves,
I congratulate you on your achievement. The program keys out very well and the list of other features is quite impressive. I really like the Hue and Saturation Key tools, very useful. It is more than I could have hoped for and well worth the extra wait.

One question: Is there any way to import effects using a screen mode similar to Photoshop or After Effects? If so, how? If not can you add this feature? Alam2 can export lightsaber footage on a black background, it would be nice to composite the final footage in Chromanator. I realize that this might be beyond the scope of the program. Any information from the team would be appreciated.

I can't wait to see AlamDV 3! Keep up the great work, you guys rock!!!

Peace out,

JediMaster33 - If you export your lightsabers on black, then use the Luminance Key in Chromanator. smile That's all there is to it. Same effect as screening, but with greater control.

Or, you can open the properties window for the clip in question, and change it from normal to Add mode. Not only can Chromanator do it, it gives you options as to how.

Hey Axeman,

Thanks for the info. Changing the properties from Normal to Add worked perfectly. I'm glad to know that they have that feature. What a compositing package, it really does, do it all!

The 'Add' composite mode is a good option for any light-based elements (such as lightsabers, explosions, fire etc etc). Luminance also works, but gives a slightly different effect and is not always so successful.
