Just a small news post today folks, in preparation for more exciting information coming early next week.

Two new tutorials have been added to the selection, this time focusing on creating artificial camera shake and enhancing your on-set lighting using Chromanator.

Click here to view the latest tutorials.

Early next week we'll have our first Spotlight on AlamDV3, focusing specifically on the new lightsword system. We will also be releasing an update to Chromanator that will include several improvements to the render engine, including a speed increase and a small quad bug fix.

Keep your eyes on FXhome so that you don't miss out!

Sweet!!! I'm really jazzed to see the new lightsword system. Keep the info and photos coming.

Also, the flicker feature is a must, if it is possible for you guys to build. The most realistic lightswords in all fan films, do flicker.

Check out: http://www.ryan-w.com biggrin His lightsword tutorials are very good, they produce authentic looking results. However, you do need to have expensive software. We are all looking for powerful and economical.
You guys rock, keep up the great work!

Later,

Yes I am Aculag, but not quite like that.

Ha Ha Ha! Very funny! biggrin

I was actually hoping to get a response from the staff to my query, but I know they are very busy working. I'm sure I'll be very surprised with what I see in the coming weeks.

Peace out,

Cool your jets. I'm sure that they have not forgotten... biggrin Tarn just needs time to put it all in words (which is hard, considering the power of ADV3!)

When is the AlamDV3 upgrade going to be released? I've been hearing about this update for over a year.

Just want to know how it's coming along...

It's coming along really well so far, although we don't have a release date just yet. We'll have some more information about it in the near future along with some other goodies.

I have two ideas for Alam, motion tracker, if that's not too hard, and 3d models, like, 3ds Max models that can be put into the clip and you can rotat it in a few directions for easy key framing. Is this possible, either of these?

Motion tracking would be the best damn tool in alam dv3 if it could be pulled off... biggrin

Motion tracking for things like lightswords is near impossible - hence they do it by hand in the films as well.

What I don't get is, if they have the budget, why don't they simply put those motion track ball things on the ends of the lightsabers, and then use a 3D program to add the lightsaber. Wouldn't that be possible?

They would probably have to do it in a mocap stage though, which would limit the scenery. Even though all the new star wars films are ALL in front of a greenscreen.... RRRRRRRRRRRR......

Well, Schwar, what about the 3d thing. And some motion tracking could be used in some cases, not light sabers, but in some cases right? I'm more interested in the 3d though. I have no access to 3d software and have no skill in it.

3D isn't something you can just chuck in. Even if you could import and rotate 3D objects, it wouldn't be much use - what about texturing, and lighting? You have specialised 3D programs for a reason - they're the only way of doing 3D properly. A halfway measure is going to be hard pressed to give decent results. Simple fact is that AlamDV isn't intended to be a 3D program.

You can do decent 3d stuff in After Effects, even though that isn't a 3d prog.

But then, Alam & Chromy are more specialist, or just different.

As far as I remember you can't render or raytrace or animate 3D objects in AE as if it were a 3D program.

I was thinking more of the ability to rotate video, zoom into it etc in 3d mode, & import non-animate 3d objects & apply basic lighting to them.
