I need to do the following 2 effects for the film I'm shooting.
1) A Predator/Hollow Man style invisilibity effect
2) A thermal image scope that shows heat signatures of soldiers
I have AlamDV2. Can't figure out how to do them. Is the problem that these effects need to be done in Chromanator? Thx.

the thermal image effect should be quite easy in chromanator, just by playing with the hue settings. the invisibility effect is unfortunately in the realms of 3d.

I don't know for the thermal effect but you could use i plugin i saw for virtualdub lsome time ago. It replace the color in the movie by other of your choose. Search for virtualdub plugin on google.
For the invisibility effect it is quite easy but i don't know if it work with chrmanator. I used it in my movie. http://www.imaginethisproductions.net/movies/Pourchasse/pourchasse_divx.html
I base it on this tutorial.http://www.creativecow.net/articles/hamill_alan/invisible_man/

The invisibility effect could easily be done in a program like Chromanator. If there was a displacement map feature, you could take a greenscreened element and set it as the displacement map over other footage.

Is there a displacement map feature in Chromanator that I could use? Would certainly buy it if I could.

As of now, no. But I assume that it will eventually be added in the future, although it's hard to tell when.

Displacement maps will indeed make an appearance in a future update. At the moment I can't say when because we are working hard on AlamDV3. There are some interface logistics to get round with the displacement maps as well, but they will be coming
