Visual Concept Updated **Location Shots and Composite Test**

Ok, we are makin a film pretty much based on Jet force Gemini, a game I reccomend to everyone, for the N64. It will have giant alien bugs etc. We will think of a different story for the movie though. Here is a visual concept of the costume, all made of available products from different sources.
Make suggestions etc. Here
are images from Jet Force Gemini for you to get an idea. It is not a Jet Force Gemini Fan Film, we just thought our idea was similar to it. The only thing there that I don't have access to is the gun. Use blackhawk.com for costume suggestions, I can get anything there for free. I need to find a gun, and other scifi weapons, and any other add-ons or suggestions for the costume would be great.

umm work on the top a lil it reminds me of my old hockey days, and cool idea, very ambishus not something id have thge patiuence to do but hey, good luck!

I will plate the top with something, it is a hockey helmet and pads, but wont look like it in the end. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I don't know, but maybe use the Tron technique Tarn made for chromy and get some blue glowing lights on the suit?
And get some padding or something on the legs. Like I dunno shinpads and roller blading gear or something.

Hmm...sound like an ambitious project. But a film project is wasted if it isn't ambitious, so that's a good thing.
As far as the gun, check out the Robocop pistol at the bottom of the page here
. I just ordered some other airsoft guns from them, and they are pretty good. And for $4 a pop, you can't really go wrong.
As for the costume, I'd say that the concept you posted is a step in the right direction, but it needs work. I think it looks too athletic, with the hockey helmet and football pads, but I don't have the time now to browse around that blackhawk website and look for other stuff that looks better. I may do that tomorrow, though, since I don't have anything else important going on.
By the way, how do you get everything from blackhawk.com for free? That is really cool, because costumes and props are incredibly important to movies, especially for a futuristic movie like the one you're doing. Anyway, I hope this has been helpful feedback for you.

OK, I get things from Blackhawk for free because my dad is a contractor for 'em. He used to be in the military, so, as they are military supplyers didn't have any military peeps, so they hired my dad with a high jobthere.
As for the Costume, it will be plated with something and spray painted silver. If you have any better ideas, post.
Robocop gun, cool, thanks, but is it copyrighted? I want this movie to be copyright free and have all copyrights owned by me etc etc.

Email the people at Airsoft Atlanta and ask about the copyright. I doubt that this would be an issue. Hopefully not, because it would be hard to find a good futuristic looking airsoft gun any other place.

More than an hour. It wont be 100% 3d though. Just the fights and main scenes, it'll go great.

OK thanks, TRON effect for statues, not main character. That would be too hard to shoot, and tedious. The movie will not for the most part be in front of a bluescreen, mainly forests. Maybe for some shots, like, it could act like sting from LOTR where it senses aliens.Nice idea on the paddin as well, +1.

If you're worried about the Robocop copyright, you should be worried about the BlackHawk copyright aswell.

No, actually I shouldn't. That's like me being worried about my clothes being copyrighted. And I think Blackhawk would probably let me off, my dad is pretty important to the company.

Anyways that is a nice way of previsualizing the costume. What I would do is add extra peices of plastic and gizmos to all of the peices and then repaint them. We did this for most of our guns. Also be sure to get some square peices of foam or someting to put on the pants to make them look like they're from the game.

Just a note:
Are we talking about the Robocop gun second from the bottom under "Fuji Guns", or the one up a little bit higher? If it's the one second from the bottom, I can save you some money. Most off-name US dollar stores (not Family Dollar, Dollar General, Greenbacks, etc.) carry a two-pack of the gun second from the bottom for 50 cents USD. That's 25 cents USD a gun! I bought a couple, but they are incredibly bad quality, and they aren't Robocop guns, it just says that on the website to make you think you're getting a replica. (so I wouldn't worry about copyrights)

I was talking about the ones second from the bottom; those other ones weren't there until today, so I hadn't even seen them.
Are the guns that you bought airsoft guns? Cause that would be an amazing deal, getting two airsoft guns for a measely 50 cents! But if not, it would probably be a better idea to buy the ones from the site, cause I would think they would at least be sturdy enough to undergo the rigors of filming, since they are made to shoot bbs.

is a little compositing test to see if I could accomplish it. I composited me onto a 3d scene, and animated it. I am usimg the Cinema 3d demo, this is why the bug is not animated, and the animation is not too good, but I will do that better when the movie actually comes. I will have a greenscreen then, and a way better camera, and I will put more effort into it, set the exposure settings better, costumes, etc. I was just seeing how it was done etc.
Ok, I also did some location shots with my dad's Powershot S50. Please comment and make suggestions, I still have a few more locations to snap, I will post more later.
And I still have the almighty greenscreen for some scenes.
Any comments, questions, suggestions?
PS- The Blue car will NOT be in the movie, it may come in use in a nother film though...

cool locations, but the composite needs some work. The guy on the greenscreen looks blurry compared to the cg background. The background is better than what I can do now, but it still looks extremely fake. If you want people to take this seriously, I suggest finding a way to make the background look more real.

I know, this is not from the movie. This was shot on a BLUEscreen, not good, that will change when production starts. It was blurry due to bad keying, and a bad camera. I am getting a GL-2, or 1, as you may know, when production time comes. As for the background, I just did a quick render from scifi3d.theforce.net, I just wanted to see if I could do it. The animation could use some work as well, the jump, and the bug. I was using the Cinema 4d demo, rendered a still, and took a screen shot. When I actually make the movie, I will have shadows, motion blur, 3d animation, and will take time on the 3d stuff, and nail it. Thanks for the comments, and keep 'em coming.

serpent, you'v figured out the workflow for the jump shot, now just try a few more tests, try a front angle shot. Cant wait to see what more you come up with. The locations are nice too.

Cool shot, I remember when you sent me it on IM. Those locations are cool too. They would look even cooler with a low exposure set when you are filming there. And a cooler white balance for an eerier tone. Oh man! i wish I could fillm there!

The first part still looks bad. He seems to fly out instead of jump onto the bug. And it needs to be de-interlaced. The second part of the clip makes little sense. The bug is just stationary, and I guess it is you, don't seem like you are on a bug. What was the significance of the lighsaber anyway?

OK, let me clarify on some people's thoughts:
AvengerE83 (12:34:52 PM): I don't know why there is a lightsaber in the test

This is not from the movie or anything. It's a 3d, 2d integration test. Read billy's post. That was my goal. OK?

That was my goal. This is not a test from the movie, and I never saiid that. There are no costumes etc.
EDIT: AND THIS ISN'T a JFG FANFILM! It's a test anyways, hence the lightsabers. In JFG, no one wore an England soccer shirt either, it's just a fun little test.
EDIT 2: These are expierience tests btw, not like amazing put all my effort into it tests.

my mistake. I think you should wait until you can do a really good test with a 3d integration before you show it to us. It just looks like the same as the last test, and we don't really need to see every single one.

The locations look really cool as others have said.
As for the clip, I think what's happening is that you're moving across too far compared to the height, take the roof off of the walkway so you've got space to "jump" higher.

Ok, thanks Rawree, I like when people say do this, instead of: this looks bad, that's all I have to say. Comments like Rawree are what I need, and these are expierience tests. When I get my GL-1 and Cinema 4d, I'll put money into a prop and a costume and make some movie quaity tests.

I know how you feel. I was in the middle of trying to edit some behind-the-scenes footage when I saw a cookie cutter plugin in Vegas and got curious. The result was this:http://fxhome.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=134124#134124
by experimenting with some things and testing some things I gained experience and possibly helped some others out...hence the +2 on the linked post. Serpent, I liked the original shot, but the second one wasn't that great. Keep working at it, and you'll end up getting the look that you wanted. Never give up.

I know, I will make my tests more proffesional, and wont submit them until they look just that. My dad came home from work today and gave me a ton of stuff. I got a blackhawk bag for camera (New GL-1, getting soon), I got 3 gun things for leg, as I posted on page one, I just ordered this:
on Ebay, and am going to get some pads from my friend, some pants, a good robocop guns as Lloyd66 suggested, I thank him again. After that I just need a under shirt that looks good with it all, and a blue tinted visor, then I need to paint it all appropriately, the pads and helmet that is. Then, I am getting some appropriate shoes (please reccomend a good place, online, or real) and my dad also came home with some belt pouches which stuff like grenades etc can fit. As soon as I completet the costume or most of it, I will post a shot of it all, and maybe later a good test, look for it near mid October.

No no. I am working on the main costume at the moment, because that is all that is needed in the opening pretty much. And I want to do some nice looking tests.

Meaning, a photograph of the costume. And a test, like the main character, not the real actor, fighting a CG monster or something. And I will make a fake trailer like Sollthar, with not the real actors in there right places etc, to have a go at it, and set up the story, mainly just for a test. And I want to test out our composer, and trailers often have many moods in just 2 minutes.
