Hmm well I was bored today so I made this.

It'd be nice to have comments/suggestions on how I could improve.

the quality is nice, but maybe you should make a more pleasant image.

It's photoshop tutorial-rific!

Sorry, pooky... I just don't like looking at things like that, that look the way all the tutorials for "cool special effects" want you to make them look.

Not something I'd have for my desktop wallpaper - but still, I really like the image. Well done pooky biggrin

It made me think of the win 95 days of 256 colors.

then I tried it on my wallpaper to see if that made it any better. nope.

It needs depth, color and no streaks around the edges.

it just seems no one around here will give constructive criticism in fear of -1s ecept xcession. the only reason I said that is I almost just said "good job".

I don't think so - if I like something, then I'll post saying that. If I don't, I'll post saying that I don't like it. If I can offer advice, then I will where possible strive to do so.

What I don't do is avoid putting forward my real opinions based on some silly 'force' system. And I feel that the vast majority of people here who do contribute either regularly or semi-regularly also take the same attitude as myself.

For evidence of people disagreeing over stuff or criticising other people, you've just got to look at threads like the "Night of the Comedians (test)", or any of the threads that get locked because people disagree so strongly.

If it was only Aculag, Mechaforce, sidewinder and xcession who 'spoke their minds', then there would very rarely be any threads locked - but I can remember several from the past few weeks/months.

Here's my criticism:

1.) The eye needs to be a bit clearer if it's going to be the focal point of your image.

2.) The texture is too defined. Loosen it up a bit.

3.) Choose better colors or just make the image in b&w.

4.) The text on the bottom righthand side is useless to me, unless you make it a bit clearer.

5.) Define a background, the eye seems to be floating in nothingness. And even if nothingness was your intention, define it in a better way.

Other than that, it looks cool though not my type of wallpaper.

Someone accused me of being afraid to criticise ... the apolalypse must be due any day now ...

It's a fairly nicely realised bit of work designed as a backdrop, so it doesn't have to be eye-catching - its fairly soothing and not distracting. Judged on those criteria you can like it or not like it but there's not much point in nit-picking.

Who's nit picking? Pooky's asking for comments, we gave comments. If Pooky doesn't like our criticism, then he can say so politely. It's the artist's choice, and even if Pooky didn't ask for comments, art is meant to express a meaning and it will always be interpreted differentally among individuals.

I liked it a lot as an image, but as for a wallpaper, I like light happy looking wallpapers.

As for the criticism, that is total b/s. Maybe for some other people, but add me to that list. I always give as much criticism as I can see, and don't just say: "That ruled!" People, IMO, so many people loved Dirdirdirdarla, or whatever by Sollthar. If I submitted, at most, 0/5, maybe a 1/100, no offense Solly, but I hated that movie. It is just because he is Sollthar and he rules. I love his pther movies and all, but I think in some peoples cases, they thought it was awesome because Sollthar made it, and Tarn liked it. Tarn however liked it for the funnyness, others... Don't get me wrong, I am sure other people liked it for what it was, but I didn't. So yeah, your post was true, but some more members that you may not be familiar with some of the criticism posts could easily be added to that list. I speak my mind on every post about a movie/whatever people post.

I'm not saying you USED a tutorial for it, but you obviously learned to use photoshop by making things with tutorials, and it shows. No offence.

Nah, it's just most tuts are made after someone discovered a cool mix of filters. I just used a bunch of filters and stuff strategically for this smile

If that's the case Wiry, then you're very much alone. I HATE threads that go so low into random arguing and digress from the real topic that they are bound to be locked. It's very exasperating.

If you both love the fact that threads are being locked due to mindless arguing and offtopic babble, then you both are very much immature and this forum is most likely not for you.

Well, basically on the first page, some argument gets started over who REALLY criticizes and who just shies back when it comes to commenting.

Anyways, Pooky, you gonna post another image?

Yeah, but if you know me, I can never escape being witty in some instances. I'm not a complete butthead. But I know who is....it's-*ben looks sideways to see Aculag shaking his finger back and forth and mouthing the words, "Don't do it" He holds his blank firing gun close to him, unstuffing the barrel; then taking aim*

Take away the generic text. Actually, take away the genericness of the whole thing. Then it's good. That desktop I made a while back was very generic, but for the short amount of time I put in, it looked cool. Oh, and the smokeyness was a clever trick I made up for it.

Anyways, I digress.

Folks, the ones ruining this topic are:

atom
ben
DigiSm

...And it's pooky's topic, so I can't accuse him of ruining it.

Hehe. Hey, I was just trying to steer everyone back on course into pooky's topic by helping everyone realize that they ARE going off topic and that being offtopic isn't something "cool" and can certainly get very much annoying.

Anyways, I'm done with that. Anyone who wants to go offtopic, go ahead. unsure

Pooky, why don't you post the final image you showed me in AIM. That one was interesting, though a little color could go a long way.
