R.I.P. John Cummings a.k.a. Johnny Ramone of The Ramones.

The Ramones may be one of the most influencial rock bands of our time. From "I wanna be Sedated" to "Blitzkrieg Bop", The Ramones really showed their rock genius with such great albums and songs. With the passing of Joey and Dee Dee Ramone, another band member has passed away. Johnny Ramone (or by his birth name, John Cummings) died last night from Prostate Cancer. With his often "simple" guitar chords but awesome sounds, Johnny Ramone was just as important to the group as any of the other Ramones. Though his Conservative, Republican views on politics may have stirred controversy with fans, he is still loved by many. I hope there are others on this site who feel the same I do about this sad news. Please post.

If you don't have "Ramones Mania", then get it. Then you'll realize how good they really were.

When I was 9 I had a teacher called John Cummings. He had a huge moustache, bad breath and stood for election as a labour councellor. When I was 11 he was arrested as a suspected terrorist, and found in posession of homemade explosives. I have no idea where he is now.

whatever you think, IMO, the ramones were a great band.

What do you like? Most of the stuff that is out now is crap. With the exceptions of Jet, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, and Modest Mouse, and maybe a few others that I forget.

Well, if you consider the Ramones a good band, then I would say you were right.

I wouldn't say you were in the position to go around puting down bands people like. I like bands that are good and know how to play. Of which, the ramones and other bands do not. Being able to play powerchords over and over again doesn't mean your good.

PS. Sugarcult rules.

heh. Thats what makes them so good, IMO. Their later songs were better. Besides, sometimes you just want to listen to an utterly simple song like that. Its good... um... "party" music.... kinda.... tard

Nice job stating something and then completely go against what you just said.

Powerchords are good in some situations. Especially with The Ramones.

News flash; I'm not you.

That aside,
I like music, You like music.
I like Sugarcult, You like the Ramones.

I don't know what you have against Sugarcult, but notice how their halfway down my list. Their not my favorite band. I doubt I would care if one of them died. It's bound to happen some day because their all on crack.

Anyway, I don't like the ramones. I've stated why, and I'm choosing to end this conversation right now. Deal with it.

I just don't like people bashing bands I like with no provication. It's stupid and childish. I only bashed the Ramones in retaliation.

Retaliation of what?

I was saying how sad it is that a great punker died and you say he wasn't so great. Then you disrespect me for saying I don't like a band you like.

And you probably should care if you sound like a hypocrite- because you also sound like an asshole.

Why the hell does everybody bash new music? everybody is so hateful. Don't listen to the radio than if u don't like the music that is played. This might seem off topic but all these online community things always bash new music. Its not gonna go away after u bash it so it makes no difference wats so ever. This may seem off topic but i don't give a rats ass. And almost every band uses power chords, maybe some not as much as others but its still a god damn chord who gives a flying f*ck. And people say that new bands killed rock and roll, did u ever think that new bands arn't rock and roll? maybe rock and roll killed itself, i don't kno and i really don't care. I like both new and old music, punk music, rap, techno, wat ever the f*ck i like and i don't care if u don't like it. So stop bashing each others music just because they have a different taste than u, its not the end of the world. Well thats all i have to say, so goodbye, and i hope ur arguments go well.

Hey, I like Modest Mouse.

But here's my list of my top faves, and except for the first two, in no particular order:

In Flames
Children Of Bodom
Tool
Metallica
Dave Matthews
Led Zeppelin

And other bands that are nearly on the list:
Smashing Pumpkins
Collective Soul

I think it's time that everyone stopped acting so ostentatious about music. I find it hilarious that you guys think that all new music is crap, wait, except for the artsy modern rock stuff I like (not to the say the music is bad though). That's not educated, that's stupid. You probably can't even name an old band from that you really like (other than LED ZEPPLIN or AEROSMITH). And if you can, then you probably only like a couple of songs from them.

But anyways...

A lot more people seem to like the Ramones for their image rather than their music though...

Moral of the story: ANY FRUIT CAN CALL NEW MUSIC CRAPPY. Stop saying new music is crappy to look cultured and tasteful.

anyway, regarding that something aweful site, I like Modest Mouse and Franz Ferdinand. They accuse Franz Ferdinand of trying to be too artsy. Whats wrong with that? Besides, I don't even like their music videos. I just love the sounds of their songs.

I don't like newer music unless it sounds or mimics older music. Thats just the way I am. The new stuff is mostly god aweful rap and or some babe who lip syncs or some chick magnet who can't sing for his life. At least that is my opinion. I don't think that all new music is bad, but you have to admit, a lot of it is just watered down garbage.

You know what? I just want to re-direct this thread back to The Ramones. People are accusing me of being ignorant- which i guess, most can. But the reason I was pretty much "pissed off" was that I created a post to honor the death of a punk rocker. And if you disagree, then get the f*ck out of this thread. Please, if there's anyone who actually cares, say something. If you have nothing but disrespect, go to another post. Please. There are people out there who are actually affected by this and if you aren't, then don't f*cking post.

If you hate me, well, I don't really understand why.

Anyone else appreciate The Ramones?

Music is great. All of you should be glad that we each have an unlimited selection to listen to, even if it is crap. That doesn't mean that one person's crap should be insulted by another....I mean, come one people! I HATE almost all bands, but you don't see me, the ultimate complainer, complaining? You see, I like a really weird combination of stuff, (Michael Jackson, Jet, Beyonce, The Postal Service, Incubus, etc.) but it gets me in the state of mind where I can just relax or 'rock-out'. But that's cool, and if a certain piece of music does that for you, great! Keep it to yourself. Not because you're necessarily ignorant, but because by saying one certain type of music is bad, you're starting an argument bigger than you're able to handle.

That being said and all....
Although I never really "got-into" the Ramones, I feel great sorrow for the loss of such a comitted-musician. It's sad to know, because the portion of the other Ramones are deceased as well.

May he rest in peace.....
