I finally got the camera of my dreams. I bought my Canon GL-1 from Mecha-Force's Dad, shipped in 3 days. It's so brilliant, and I am so happy. I came home, and it was waiting for me, glowing. (Ok, not really.) But I will try my best to get way better, and not put shame to my camera. I finally got a great idea for a short, so expect something good from me in the nearish future. The color is extremely accurate to the real world, and I will post some pics later tommorow. I am so excited, and achieving Depth of field is so simple. It's brilliant.

PS- Thanks to sidey for setting me up with this deal, kudos to he.

*Marek pets his Sony Handycam, which magically somehow records and it doesn't cost $2000.

What an idea, not spending thousands on a hobbie.

Maybe Serpent and evman think of filmmaking as more than a hobby. I know I do.

So do I, all I'm saying is that I'm kinda sick of all these people I havn't seen anything decent from having expensive pro-sumer cameras. I have a Handycam, and I can still satisfy my own hunger to make movies with it. I don't need an expensive camera to do it, at least not until I'm good enough that people actually have to start complaining about how it looks.

True. I have countless "skaters" that come into my work looking for GL2's and VX2100's to make their little skate videos. They're these 13 year old kids with their parent's pocketbook thinking they will be pro by holding a pro camera in their hands.

I still use a ZR25MC (slightly modified) for my main video work, and a GL2 as BACKUP. That's right.... BACKUP. I prefer the "lower" video quality that the ZR gives me. It's a very unique feel.

Thanks Marek, I love the comments. confused What the hell was that? I have been saving for a good camera since I was 10 years old, and you re saying you are sick of people who are worse than you getting a camera.

A.) I have gotten better, and Charlie was a pretty decent film.

B.) I don't know how good you are, but you have nothing to back yourself up with.

I don't need the most expensive camera, and I dont HAVE the most expensive camera to make movies. But it increases quality, and allows me to even pull of a key. You dont know anything about me, and you have not seen how bad my old camera was. It was nearly broken, and most of the consumer cams were not much less the the price Mr. Gorski put on it. So mind your own business, I didn't start this thread for comments like that.

And yes, filming is more of a hobby to me, it IS my life, that's what I want to do when I grow up.

And, I only spent $1000 on it, not "thousands", and it was my own money, not my mom's, not anyone else's, mine.

I think we're all missing what makes this camera truly superior.

This is the Twisted Studios camera. THE camera.

And the camera's picture quality does make a difference. Stop trying to deny it.

that is actually really cool. that is definetly a piece of FXHome history. It's also a really good camera. It's almost like you got anakin skywalker's lightsaber. I would also like to add I have a girlfreind and she is a supermodel. Sidewinder, exactly what movies were made using this camera?

Waser get a little jealous

YEah wEll!? I have 400 dollar camera and all my movies a superior! !!!?!

I'm just kidding. I liked charlie, and its obvious that serpent has gotten a ton better than his first film The Fall of the Jedi. Not only does camera quality help out a film, but experience does, something that serpent obviously has gotten over the past months. Serpent has been here a while and been getting progressively better, so in my opinion, he deserved this camera. congradulations man razz

Yes Tap, but quality is important, do you really want to see the full res quality of my old one? No, you don't, you would die at the site. My keys couldn't be achieved because there were random colored grain over every frame. And, I will use this through highschool, so my target audience is also film fests, fxhome, contests, school people, and colleges (hopefully USC.) So yes, I plan on taking this "hobby" to the next level. And Tap, I only blew HALF of my money wink, other half is toward my own car with my own money, only 6 more months.

There must be some sort of catalyst that continues to invade random threads about something that in no such way can there be an argument made, and somehow breaks the chain to create arguments. Untill I, or we, find who or what this is, let's all just be happy for Serpent and his GL1.

Heh, dont pick on kids with gl2's razz and half of us arent using our parents pocketbooks, were using our own saved money I know I did alot of work and babysitting and then my parents just paid for half of it as my birthday present and I paid the other half.

And kids can make good films to, who cares if they have a pro camera or not worry about yourself, if theyre movies suck then give crtitisism on theyre movie dont just be stupid and start talking about how a better camera isnt gonna make theyre films better. Kids have parents, if the kids are good the parents buy them stuff, DEAL WITH IT!

Serpent, my comment wasn't specifically against you, more against the group I like to call the 'Canon Kids'. You have made some good movies, and I suspect you'll continue making them better.

However, it's people that havn't made hardly any movies, and suddenly think they need a good camera to make good movies. I have been making films seriously for 2 years, and I don't feel I'm at the level where I need a great camera, and I don't plan on getting one for at least a year.

Anyway, back on topic;

Serpent, I'm really glad for you and your Twisted Studios camera, may Sidewinder's and Mechaforce's talent rub off on you.

Ah, you should've made it more clear. Because that was pretty insulting an un called for. smile But I know who you are talking about, even a crap cam is bad if you aren't going to even make movies. My friend saw my movies, said wow, I want to do that, bought a camera, and I gave him my old copy of Ulead Video Studio, he made one movie and pretty much quit. And he didn't do anything with it, he never even got it from the camera to the computer. These kind of people that actually make movies, although horrible, buy a good camera, and still do just as bad.

But I now see where you're coming from, even though it was randomly spit out in this thread. crazy

No. Money. biggrin

He's an adult, don't forget.
I may be 32 years old, but mentally I'm still a kid. As for money, I bought most of this with my redundancy money in order to set up my own business. Still waiting for all the big contracts to come in though to justify the expense confused

I actually put that post up to illistrate a point that has been raised several times in the forums. It's not the kit you have, but what you do with it. YOUR skills are what matter. I have all of this stuff and I'm still making rubbish films (although my weddings are top notch - if any of you know anyone that wants a wedding videographer, hint, hint biggrin )

What I'm trying to say is, just because someone has a good quality camera, doesn't mean they're going to make good quality films...

I know that. But if your films are shot on crap hi8 cameras, no one will really take them all that seriously. At least not anyone who you want to sell it to. Or enter into a competition. Now that I have a more professional camera, I now think more professionally with what I make. I know that if I turn in something that is crap, shot on a gl2, people will laugh at me and tell me what you are all telling me now.

Hi-8 has it's place. Like any format, it comes down to use of lighting.

Image quality is important but content is king. As an amateur if you can get both image quality and content right then you may have something that bit better.

true, but even when I lit my scenes with my old camera, it still didn't look good, no matter how many configurations I used. I use the same lighting set ups on the gl2, and miraculously, it looks good. Not to mention far less pixelly.

Here's everything you're saying in summarization:

If you have a good camera, you're not guaranteed good movies.

If you can make good movies, you want a good camera.

Unless you want to be pretentious and artsy.

And kids can make good films to, who cares if they have a pro camera or not worry about yourself, if theyre movies suck then give crtitisism on theyre movie dont just be stupid and start talking about how a better camera isnt gonna make theyre films better. People need to read more clearly. Take a second glance at my original post.
No idea if you were talking about what I said, Im not talking about anyone particular I only read the first 3 replys before writing that, and every I got a INSERT PRO CAMERA TITLE HERE has gone the same way people just argue about kids getting them, thats just my opinion Serdar if you think that was aimed towards you it was'nt.
