"Dreamscape" (Filmed for Chuter's film challenge).

Myself, er-no and Binx filmed this one for chuters film challenge over the course of one night. literally as a spur of the moment creation to give me something to practice editing on (As this is the first piece of hardcore video editing I have ever done) and hopefully submit to the cinema. Now... some way down the line after filming, here it is. The first of any real joint effort between me and er-no, with me behind the editing and er-no behind the camera work and cinematography. Making this not only gave me stuff to practice on, but also helped us both become accustomed with our approach to filming and allowed for some interesting shot ideas wink I'd say I have learnt a good deal about using a camera as a whole as well as how to frame a shot during the short 4 hours of filming.

The movie is made in accordance with chuter's rules. Implementing several ideas (Trapped, Choices, Danger, Moment of Truth, new experience, cold, attraction) and I'm pretty sure I got all of em, if you look hard enough wink The film is also Black and white and approx 5 minutes worth of footage (give or take .2 seconds).

I'm quite happy with the end result, though an obvious storyline feels distinctly lacking as I was unable to find or record an effective narrative. Making Dreamscape has been good fun, I'm sure that this is only the first of many future submissions. A big thanks goes out to Joby and Morgyn who put the effort in to help me out, there are also a few special thankyous that I've put in the credits.

On the note of hidden meanings, well... telling you what it means would kind of ruin everything (past, present and future) so if you have the time... what do you think the hidden meaning is?

I hope you enjoy it razz

-Out-takes now up!-

My overall impression is quite good. I liked it. I must admit I'm not too sure what it was about ( other than being a Dream etc ) but I guess that is what you wanted. Dreams are fairly fragmented and usually don't make sense.....mmm I appear to be rambling. But yes, good work.

I'm in the credits I'm in the credits! smile

So it's finally out. That by itself is already an achievement biggrin

I thought this was very good, even though I don't get it. Editing was very very well done IMHO, sound was good except for some rather weak sound effects in places (gun reload).

Nice job, a 5.

I don't get it. Kind of stupid really. 2/5

just kidding. this movie rules. You already know how much I like it thought, so im not sure if there is much left to say. Definetly a weird movie that is both brilliant and not arty trash at the same time. 5 stars!

LOL... me, er-no and Binx had such a good time filming this. I'm glad the outtakes captures some of that smile

Also glad you enjoyed it, even though Dreamscape seems to be over'shadow'ed in the cinema by a semi-similiar movie wink

Edit: Wait.. wait! I'm one place ahead now. Hehe...

Hi Hybrid!

I enjoyed your movie, nicely thought out and constructed, some very nice shots.

Your out-takes were superb, really captured the whole fun experience of making movies. Looks like you had a really good time making the movie and thats reflected in the final product.

Good job!

Thanks Mantra smile

I'm particuarly proud of the out takes, maybe moreso than of the actual movie because they bring back the very fond memories of film making and ultimately the reason why we all gather here on this site, because we enjoy the film making itself. Some people tend to lose site of this or are too serious, but I believe with a good working atmosphere the whole process is in some way seamless and doesn't hurt a bit smile

I am also kinda proud of the main thing too, it being my first film etc etc wink

Hybrid, never a truer word said. The whole process should be fun, no matter what you are filming, other wise, whats the point? My goal is to do the best I can to the best of my abilities, but not take either myself or what I'm doing too seriously or I believe it's kind of missing the point.

Keep on Keepin' on and I look forward to your next venture biggrin

wow. that was really messed up!! in such a good way. your choice of music was superb!!! you gotta tell me what those eerie tracks were. when the guy was running and that music was playing, matched with the camera shaking violently, it made that seem so intense and frightening. very original. nicely done. you guys live in London too? i thought the area you filmed in looked pretty london-like.

Thanks Chuter smile

Yeah, we're both in south west london aside from when er-no is up north at university smile

All the music used is (I'm sorry for this) From Either Silent Hill(1,2,3,4) or Half Life mixed in with bits from other movie soundtracks such as The Battle Royale OST. I tried not to use obvious pieces of music, slowed alot of things down and made a few of the music tracks from 2 tracks, either distorted and slowed down to fit together or having one piece introduce another so to speak. I think it worked alright smile

The Music used in the running scenes is called "Aint gonna rain" and it's on the Silent Hill 2 OST. wink

I really enjoyed this - some of the editing was top class, and I can't really fault the film on much. No, sorry, that's a lie. I can't fault the film on ANYTHING, you've certainly made something that you should be proud of biggrin

PS - the out-takes are TEH ROXX0R!!!!!11 wink

Nicely done little film, with an interesting little twist at the end. I found the camera-work chase scene just a tad too jumpy, but since it wasn't a long chase scene, that was okay.

This final version of Dreamscape excelled well past all my expectations of something we filmed in a few hours in the early hours of a summer morning. To be honest, Dreamscape shows us the creative beauty that can be captured within a non-linear editor. The freedom of the edit, so to speak.

It's not often you'll see a piece like this appear in the cinema, I really enjoyed filming this, but I definetely more enjoyed watching and listening to it. Hybrid me ol' mate, excellent audio editing, probably some of the best on the site, some freaky/trippy editing, that as I've said, is impressive. Also, some of the shots weren't half bad wink...

Just really good. Let's pat each other on the back, and do a sequel. This time, I'll wake up.. and chase myself...

Nice movie. Reminded me a lot of 28 Days Later, probably because of the sound effects. Good style & I liked the lack of colour in it. Any more from you planned?

I'm the other half of er-no productions, so of course wink

We've finished filming the next project which is large on a Crawling Space scale, actually.. quite a bit bigger. After we've done editing that (sometime after christmas) There's another Horror planned I think wink Stay tuned.
