Good looking dark smoke

Hi, it whould be awsome if someone could make a real GOOD looking dark smoke, couse my shots whith flames etc. looks so lonely without smoke.

I suggest you invert your footage, add some light smoke, invert your new footage with the smoke and you have dark smoke.

It may not be perfect - but there are currently some 'GOOD' light smoke plugins.

Exclamations idea to invert your footage will work. I do that too.


Detonationfilms is great, but their footage isn't seamless, wich is very unfortunate. Apart from that, it's great though.

Wait, someone explain in further detail about inverting the footage. What kind of footage are we talking about? Something with a black background, or what?

Aculag - it doesn't matter.

Say you composite some fire in a shot, and you need some black smoke. Here's the shot minus any smoke :



You render this footage, and invert in in your NLE :



Bring the now inverted footage into Alam again, and add the light coloured smoke effects, and render this footage:



Then, by re-inverting this footage in your NLE, you will have thick black smoke :
