Hi everybody,

I have a question about an effect I want to do. I have 2 videos. I want to create a mask on the first video, to see the second video behind the first one. Can AlamDV2 do that ? Will AlamDV3 do that ? Or do I have to buy Chromanator? I know that Chromanator can do that, but that is the only effect I want.

In fact, I will buy AlamDV2 soon, but I want to know if I really need Chromanator.

Thanks

PS : last questions less important than the one before : Will AlamDV3 be able to make multiple point mask? And will AlamDV3 be able to apply mask on an effect but not on another (each effect/plugin have its own mask) ?

Well alamdv2 cannot do that although im not sure about alamdv3, although I doubt it will, although i'd be surprised if your current NLE didnt do that. And to the PS questions I believe both of them are a yes.

The effect you describe is a compositing effect - ie, of combining two different video elements. That's what Chromanator is specifically designed for. smile

AlamDV3 is more for creating specific CG visuals, like sparks, explosions, muzzle flashes, light swords etc...

Yes.

thanks a lot,

about compositing, I use Premiere and I like it. Is Chromanator this kind of software? Less or more powerful? Will I can replace Premiere by Chromanator ?

lol, sorry about all these questions, but I am sure what to do with AlamDV but not with Chromanator.

75 euros is not really expensive, but for one effect....hum....I'll think about it, but I will probably buy both. Is there any pack (if we want to buy more than one product)?

Thanks

Chromanator is primarily a compositing application, whereas Premiere is an all round Non-Linear editor.

Since Chromanator specialises on compositing, it has much more powerful and accurate garbage matte, image control and chroma-keying functions than Premiere. But having Chromanator will not eradicate your need of Premiere as it is a good piece of editing software.

well, I have just filled the netbanx form to buy chromanator. I have tried the demo before, and this is a wonderful software. I hope I'll get the mail soon.
Just a question : how can I zoom in/out the timeline, if it is possible ?

Thanks to CSB for Chromanator. Next month I'll buy AlamDV

You can't zoom in/out of the timeline I'm afraid. Pretty much all the work you do in our programs require close detail, unlike an editing program in which you need to be able to change the zoom.

However, you will be able to alter the number of displayed tracks in the next version (check the latest news article for more info).

As Hybrid said, Premiere is a specialist editing program with a few vague compositing tools added on. Chromanator, on the other hand, is designed specifically for compositing, so you should find it far superior, in terms of speed, ease-of-use and power.

Thanks for buying, hope you enjoy using the program. smile
