Okay the "My.Doom.Worm" is going around and its linking people somehow through FXHome. I posted this before but it got taken off. I'm warning everyone now! I've already gotten emails form [removed]@andrewleitchfilms.com (AndrewTheActorMan) and [removed]@siggraph.org (Billy3d). I know I'm not on either persons address book and I haven't sent or recieved any email previously from either of them. I talked with Andrew and he says he got the same email from Niko. If you get an email from an FXMember unexpectedly in your junk email folder, do not open it! It may contain a virus. The first message I got was entitled "test" with an attachment (the virus) the second message i got, just today, was entitled "hello" with an attachment (the virus) I suspected something was wrong but never would've thought it was a virus. VirusScan detected it so I don't have it, but this is a major warning! The only link I have to these people is through FXHome, so somethings gotta be up. I hope people read this.

Allow me to be the first to say, that there is no possible way, either theoretically or actually physically that information on FXhome could be used to send anyone a virus.

It's far more likely that a users contacts has been used by the virus and such.

I thought that was it, but how can you explain it if I'm not on ANYONE'S address or contact book and I've never sent or recieved an email from anyone from FXHome before? It just doesn't make sense. And after finding the second message from Billy, I assumed he'd gotten the virus via email as well. So I thought it needed to be addressed. Just to warn people and possibly find a remedy for the problem.

How else would you explain it? I find it rather puzzling, since neither billy nor Andrew have ben's email. (As far as I know...)

It's a hoax. Ben started this thread so people wouldn't think it was him sending them a virus.

Elementary.

Explain to me exactly how a virus script would be able to infiltrate fxhome.com.

As you should know by now, fxhome.com is written in php which is as far as it goes, impossible to hack into. I just find the whole idea rather unlikely as if somewhere were actually able to hack fxhome and somehow obtain your email addresses (as they wont have been taken from just site viewing as none of your emails are public asides from billy3d) then it'd also mean that a hacker would have obtained magic code and serial information... Now if you're a hacker, would you take the serials or just send some random people some viruses? Regardless, it's a total impossibility, as even if it were possible Malone keeps an eye on pretty much all server activity so he'd spot it a mile off.

It's far, far more likely that one of you has got a virus from some form of internet file sharing or email activity which has then somehow spread via mailbook contacts to each other. Just because something isn't totally explained I don't see it as a reason to suddenly think the site is a cause or part of a cause for it.

Surely somewhere along the line, one of you may have emailed someone with one of the others on their email list. Viruses are nifty in that way that you can send them to people you've never emailed before totally without knowing, you're really just going to have to come to terms with that.

However, I do think you did the right thing alerting others on fxhome who may be on your email lists that they may be affected by this spreading virus, and I imagine for this reason it has temporarily been made a sticky.

Ahem. You should know by now that "stickies" are primarily very IMPORTANT topics or threads with vital information. However, that might not be the case here, but who is to say it isn't?

Yes, I was trying to alert people. I know FXHome would be hard to hack, but it's still a possible theory is it not? I mean, it's not completely unpheasable? Just by using the process of deduction this is the only connection I see whatsoever. I don't have an Address or Contact book, my email address is listed on this website and this website only; and I only ever use my email to talk to my friend in tech about the promo I'm doing. That's it. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this and it's starting to seem bottomless. Arrggh.

Your email is not listed on this website. If a hacker did indeed hack fxhome. Then why are you the only, rather contained group to have recieved an email?

Atom, it is actually, entirely and utterly unpheasable. It's totally impossible, absolutely totally impossible that a hacker only targeted a small group. And the reason I said "I imagine" was used in more of the sense "I assume". Which I thought made it pretty obvious. Anyway...

First of all, I'd like to say that this Hybrid-Halo person is really gay. I mean come on- Let's Go to Canterbery- what is that? And all those colors that gave me a headache. Uggh.

You should have now acquired the knowledge that FXHome is in actuality written in Xphp which has numerous flaws and loopholes- if you look for them; but then again, somehow you claim it is impossible. Second, how can you say it is absolutely inpossible for someone to hack into the site. Anything is possible. And if government sites are hacked into, then this one certainly can be. If you download the site it is very possible to edit the code to redirect parameters input by users to alternate soure. The file then can be uploaded in place of the existing one. And on a site with computer nerds as it's patron's this is very possible.

It's an injoke designed specifically to get an immature reaction from people like yourself. Waser covered anything I could in terms of your introduction.

You should have plagiarized the knowledge that I know how stringently policed the fxhome server is. That and I also have a whole load of common sense. What I was saying was absolutely impossible, was that someone would hack the site and then distribute the virus to what has remained, a wonderfully limited section of the sites members... 3 people, all of whom I believe have contacted each other in some way. It's quite simple if you look at it realistically.

The thread is to warn people about the possibility, not really to debate it's realism as I believe that will soon become apparant.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the user 'benhaschke' is my friend Ben Haschke whom I showed this site to earlier this week. Sorry about that. I think his account is set to my email, so I'll change the password on him and he won't be able to post again. Again I'm sorry.

Oh, and Hybrid, though it seems to be the only logical explanation, I have never, IN ANY WAY contacted billy3d or AndrewtheActorMan physically or digitally. So here I'd like to quote 'I, Robot':
"Ever since the beginning of computers, there have always been ghosts in the machines."

He's free to post again.

I fear however this post is deviating off topic so I'm issueing the now trademark Hybrid's

STAY ON TARGET!

If anyone else is affected by this virus please post and state so, also if anyone needs removal tools I can provide links for them.

Ben, you are only furthering my suspicions of you. First you say "Hey guys, there's an fxhome virus that only I have gotten, and watch out.", and then someone posts something negative and you say "Hey guys, that's someone I know, whose account is under my control, he's cool."

You are plotting something. I know it.

I propose that we who know what is going down (Aculag, myself, Hybrid, etc.) form a rag tag team of guys to dress up in space suits, attack this problem at the heart, and walk in slow motion towards the camera.

I am not aware of any information leak from fxhome, but I am happy to investigate it further. This will take up a considerable amount of my weekend, so if this is a hoax I will not be amused.

Firstly, please do not post peoples full email addresses without their permission. Doing so will allow spam bots to pick up the addresses, and then they will certainly end up being used by viruses.

ben3308: Please forward me the emails you have received so I can check the headers. If you have deleted them, please message me with the address you received them to, and any other relevant information you remember.

If anyone else receives a virus email that seems to come from another fxhome member, then please forward that to team@fxhome.com. Try to make sure you preserve the full headers of the email.

[EDIT]

I've just checked our database, and neither andrew or billy have entered the addresses you mentioned in your first post. So if someone had accessed our db then they would have got completely different addresses.

I have noticed that billy puts his address in his sig, and andrew puts a link to his website in his sig (and his website has his email on it). So it would be very easy for anyone to get those addresses.

I didn't get an email with a virus. But then again, I wouldn't know because hotmail picks up virus emails and automatically deletes them. Never gets to my sight...

This person clearly has some connection with Andrew and/or Billy, the only thing left is, who can that person be? Hmm....

There is no club, just the FXhome hive mind which operates on common sense. I believe Malone has pretty much only furthered things that I stated way back at the start of this thread and as a result one group of people look rather silly, whereas another group of people have been talking sense this whole time.

I'll leave the working out for you guys.

On a good note, it seems that no one else has been affected by this virus... so is it totally necessary for this post to remain a sticky? If I created a post every time I got a virus, this forum would have a whole load more posts.

Anyway, I think this matter is more or less wrapped up.

Hybrid, lol, I've agreed with you from start. biggrin

And yes, there's nothing spectacular if only two users get viruses. There are many users around the world who get infected with viruses, worms, and trojans each day. I never get infected with viruses because I take good security measures, though evidently, most people don't seem to.

If you want to learn more about the virus, go here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mydoom.af@mm.html

W32.Mydoom.AF@mm is a mass-mailing worm that uses its own SMTP engine to send itself to the email addresses that it finds on the infected computer.
Just to point out.. razz There's NO WAY MyDoom can infiltrate a server DB.

Anyways, as Hybrid said, this matter IS now wrapped up. razz Enjoy your day! smile

It's another guy, purposely trying to act like multiple people are on one account. He knows how ben and I struggled with one account at first on FXH, and is just trying to piss everybody off because he's tired of hearing about this site from ben3308. He's a pain, discredit everything he says and dont read it. He'll go away within a couple of days. If it's worth the trouble to anybody, Malone could delete the account. Irregardless, I am still somewhat troubled by this virus, as, even if it isnt coming off/through/originating from FXHome in any way/shape/form, we could still get it. One thing is certain, though. Be on the look out for suspicious email. Ben seems pretty ticked about "benhashke" posting and screwing around on FXHome, and this whole virus thing.

That makes me wonder which one is worse.

Virus.

I wouldn't worry, the FXhome mods are more than capable of handling people intent on causing trouble. As for the Virus, a solution has been suggested and everything on the matter has been covered.

Yours, Ben's and Benhascke's IP addresses are all the same though, why is this? The only explanation I can think of is that you are in school, in which case... why aren't you working?

I wouldn't worry, the FXhome mods are more than capable of handling people intent on causing trouble. As for the Virus, a solution has been suggested and everything on the matter has been covered.

Yours, Ben's and Benhascke's IP addresses are all the same though, why is this? The only explanation I can think of is that you are in school, in which case... why aren't you working?
We all posted on the same network, yes. Ben Haschke was at our residence today. He probably signed on under my, bens, or the numerous other computers we have in our house. They all run under the same network. wink

How do you know my IP? (Stalker) wink

EDIT: hehe. School on a Saturday. What a crazy world that would be.

Well then it's not hard to come to a conclusion over certain people's identities.
Not that it's important as no harm has been caused and the only insult thrown was at me and to put it blankly, I eat insults sprinkled on my cereal wink

It really is rather unimportant, I have much better things to do than go crazy at one of you because you're wasting your own time which I'm going to urge you to stop doing, as this will only grow tiresome. If you are screwing around, stop now. If not... then don't worry, the Moderators are fine with handling it without you having to worry about it.

Oh, and every time you post... your IP is logged. It's how the moderators keep track of who's doing what.

I eat insults sprinkled on cupcakes. That makes them extra yummy and they dont go soggy when submerged in milk. Touche!

School? Work? Not this teenager. hugegrin I look at FXHome about four times during school daily and thirty times after school. And Ben Haschke- who assists us in making a Haunted House at our house yearly, hence he was here- is a good friend of mine and as atom said, he only wrote that stuff because he's tired of me talking to him constantly about FXHome.

ANOTHER NOTE ABOUT THE VIRUS: Apparently, the virus I got was sent to people in my Bulk Mail Folder who've emailed me in the past- spammers, and they're getting what they deserve- so if anyone gets a virus from me, I'm sorry, it is DEFINITELY NOT INTENTIONAL!

Why don't you both shut up and start posting with some relavancy?

1.) You're not funny.

2.) This is a company forum, not a place to be creating usernames out of the blue and posting nonsense here and there.

3.) I suggested a solution to your problem, Hybrid, Malone, and I both said that it was impossible for a worm to specifically target a DB and dl e-mail addresses randomly. So, why don't you both start paying attention?

The more you talk about your concern about this virus issue, the more that is suspected of your connection in this matter. unsure

Jee, how ever could you come to that conclusion?

Hmm, nice one there Ben. You've proved that you're a complete dolt. Happy now?

Why so much hatefullness? I'm not Ben Haschke, I have never done anything to harm anyone else's computer in my life, and I'm just trying to warn people. Yeah, I created my friend Ben's username and then gave it to him. So what? He's a person, not me posting under a different username. I'M NOT BEN HASCHKE! STOP SAYING THAT! It's a sad world we live in where dishonesty and deceit are so common that nobody can believe someone when they're telling the truth. That's pretty pathetic.

This is stupid. If I were a mod, this thread would be gone.

Allow me to be the first to say, that there is no possible way, either theoretically or actually physically that information on FXhome could be used to send anyone a virus.

It's far more likely that a users contacts has been used by the virus and such.
How else would you explain it? I find it rather puzzling, since neither billy nor Andrew have ben's email. (As far as I know...)

However, I do think you did the right thing alerting others on fxhome who may be on your email lists that they may be affected by this spreading virus, and I imagine for this reason it has temporarily been made a sticky.
simple...its an inside job from someone whos got all yalls e-mails... notice all the others who didnt get touched? someone on FXhome is messing with ya... and its someone you three have in common.

Sorry, to everyone, for all of the irrelevancy in posts from myself and my friend. I did indeed just post this because of my recent virus from billy. I really don't think this thread should be deleted, because I do think it could help people. No matter how much it has been lead astray, any thread can be revitalised by the one......the only.....TARN!

Touche to everyone.

That in no way means that I can't be worried about a virus that I know is going around, though. And I never thought I was funny. I'm hilarious.

Why does this virus really matter at all to other people on here? you can deleted this thread without worry, considering the following facts:

1. most everyone has an antivirus. its someones own fault if they dont.

2. obviously someone was pissed about something and sent this virus out. so it obviously wasnt fxhome.com.

3. doom isnt that bad of a worm anyways. it can be stopped pretty easily.
