Well it's December so that means it's time for the next SL:FX 3D challenge.

As per usual the rules remain, all renders must be in before the closing date and no turbosquidding.

Tis the season and all that so the topic this time is simply

***Christmas***

Last entries due December 25th

I was just gonna edit that last message and say that. I think we should ban him, or else he will continually dominate.

Here's my entry:

It looks like the Iron Giant I think.

Finsished it in a week.
Modeled in Wings 3D
Renered in demo C4D

3RD model in my life.

Peace out.

morning and finding.... A robot... ?

Whats wrong with him dominating? That just fuels better entries that want to compete with him... and we wouldn't want that!

Guys, although there are no real restrictions on entries, tacking a Santa hat or some lights onto a model you've already made isn't so much what this is about. If you actually spend time doing something new and On Topic then you're more likely to get votes and beat Billy (Who won't be banned if you were actually serious)

Lets get creative (and Christmassy)

for the sake of political correctness, can we make it "whatever holiday that YOU celebrate around that same time as Christams"? smile LOL

I celebrate Christmas, but not everybody does... so I think we should allow anything pertaining to this holiday season...

cool? smile

That's just like us Americans. Anyone who stands out or is better at something than someone else is immediately persecuted. Makes perfect sense to me.

No, im learning about capitalism in social studies now and when there is competition between businesses (3d modelers), the consumers (the fxhome community) ultimately benefit. In this case we see a surplus of quality models, because everyone now has a motivation to beat Billy. That, my friends, is why capitalism works! biggrin

Yes, but in a communist society instead of everybody benefitting equalling, everyone fails equally (economy-wise) and then nobody has money to buy a good modeling program to BEAT BILLY!!!!!!! C'mon, Billy, amaze us again.

communism is very capable of working but karl marx envisioned the countrys would have fair and just leaders, which as we have seen (stalin, kim jong) its hard to find those types of people. But pickup and read the communist manifesto is very interesting the actual idea of communism and what the average person thinks it is

Exactly. People always rag on communism because of what history has shown us about it, and it COULD (would) work theoretically, but it won't until people let it work, which they won't.

Anyways i'm also doing 90% of the illustrations.
I dont think I can put up anything related to our design till our proposal is sent to Nasa.

Communism doesn't work theoretically, either. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Anyways, since I threw in my 2 cents politically, I'll have to do it with CG as well!

The finalists from asia will shall participate in the finals of the ISSDC to be held at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA

Basically, we have to write a 40 page proposal, which we did and made it to the Asian Semi-Finals, which is on the 20th.
"Semi-finalists:

First off, you aren't from Asia, are you Billy? Isn't there some European competition? And also, if its in Asia, then why is NASA hosting it? Is NASA an American organization? (Am I right, here? I just don't want to sound stupid)

I am from Asia (India to be more precise)

"Semi-Finalists and runners-up team (part of the winning company), will be invited to re-submit their entries in the International Qualifying Competition.

I made this in Lightwave (of course) and it took me about 1/2 to model it and it's taken me all weekend to get the textures and the lighting just the way I want it! smile LOL I've got 12 variations and I liked this on the best, so here it is! smile and I know the light's lit without being plugged in! It's the magic of Christams! LOL smile

I haven't learnt modeling yet, so I based that on a tutorial i found, although i serached, i couldn't find any on christmas objects. So i just threw some quick ideas together, not very good ones by the look of it.

Oh well, I'l try better next time smile

Im sure there will be a poll, 5 people have already entered, Im still entering and maby sidewinder aswell. That makes 7 entries.

I'm sure enough people will have entered. Didnt the first one have about the same amount of entries?

Yeah there's enough people for a poll, problem last time was that there were too many people for a poll.

Render time: 4min + 4min
Renderer: Mental ray

I made everything in the scene (textures included), and the skin uses subsurface scattering.

Ill post a better render soon.

Im glad you like it cool

I made the hair by selecting the polygons that they come from, altered the direction of a few guide hairs and made a black and white texture map to control the density in some areas.

Wireframe of backround

Wireframe of Santa Claus

^ You can see the guide hairs around his eye brows.

Well it's obvious that our winner this time is:

*Fanfare* rmv for his seasonal render.

A metaphorical prize is speeding towards you as we speak and you go on the list of winners:

November 25th : Billy3D
December 8th : rmw

Once more a note to the dense, the prize is metephorical and therefore not real
