One element of AlamDV3 kept largely under wraps until now has been the brand new muzzle flash system. With the release fast approaching, we thought it was time for something of a sneak peak...

Flare

Muzzle flashes have always been an extremely popular feature in AlamDV, so it was an area we wanted to focus on for AlamDV3. Rather than offering just a small selection of muzzle flashes, we wanted to provide the most flexible and powerful system on the market. To that end, we developed Flare.

What does it do?
Rather than just providing a couple of muzzle flashes, Flare is capable of delivering billions of different flashes and clashes, suitable for weapon discharges as well as lightsword collisions and other sudden visual bursts of light.

How does it work?
Flare has visual presets for different types of weapons and can also be fully customised to generate a near-infinite variety of flash/clash effects. This means that your muzzle flashes need never look the same twice - unless you want them to, of course.

You can create the perfect flash for any project using Flare's extensive options, which include changing the origin, length and angle, altering the blur and particle intensity and adjusting the front and side ejections and the relative distance from the 'barrel'.

Unique

Flare is a good example of the freedom-of-expression approach we have taken for all three of the new products. The idea is to provide the required tools but leave the creative process to the filmmaker: no two effects need look entirely alike, enabling you to stamp your own signature style onto the movie while retaining the speed and ease-of-use that is expected from AlamDV.

May I just say that this is looking hugely awesome and if I'm honest, far better than I thought it would be!

But it is just one Tarn made, you can alter it, it can look however your heart desires, its not "the scifi one", it can be anything, you know what I mean? It's never "that ONE effect."

I must admit that this is a pretty impressive feature...

I hope that the MAc OSX version gets released before March so that I can use it in the RECON sequel which will shoot in February and March 2005...

One can never have enough flares...

I'll wait to see AlamDv3 and if I like it I will buy Chomy and everything these guys release in the future. I am very happy with AlamDV2 currently, it is always challenging to get it to work and at the end the rewarding feeling I get is even bigger than if I was using a non-faulty program, you know what I mean?

What deadline? There was no deadline. Just a web Q&A in which the company indicated their want to release the program pre-2005.

And in response to xbreaka's quibble with the scifi flare looking too girly I have one reply;
It'll definetly be being composed onto all my man films.

These flares look great, but I kinda expected something of the same nature to be offered in AlamDV3. Particle Gen., Flares, Snappy interface........what's next? Electrical FX? smile

AlamDV3? Sounds more like AlamDV300 if you compare it to AlamDV2 eek I don't remember who said it (someone from CSB), but he was definitelly right - it's not just other league - it's whole new sport eek eek eek
Can't wait.
Oh, someone mentioned electricity - I wonder if AlamDV3 can handle it (yeah, I expect it will, but it wasn't stated before I guess).
Good luck again, guys!

Yeah yeah I know.... deadline was a bad word to use... but Tarn said it should be out before next year. Just another thing to look forward to. Personally though, it doesn't matter to me if we wait a little longer than that anyway. The longer we wait the more it will kick ass.

If you were sorry about it before you posted it, then why didn't you just post it in an appropriate place? biggrin Yes, there is a stock footage library planned, which is why there is a Chromanator Backdrop Requests Forum: to get an idea of what people are after.

Back to the topic at hand... Wow! There is, it seems, quite an impressive variety possible with the new muzzle flash system. Or rather, Flare. Looking forward to it.
