|This is a pre-test of sorts for our upcoming movie Stargate - SG2. Its not meant to be a trailer, and its barely a teaser. Its more of a feeler to show the direction we're headed.|
This is my first attempt at anything 3D, or 3D compositing, so any advice is welcome. HOWEVER, please be aware that none of what you see will be in the final production, and yes there is a full team, not just two Since this was merely a practice run no great pains were taken during filming. There are several technical errors, 99% of which are known.
With all this in mind, ENJOY!

Not bad, i liked the blueescreen work.
Costumes were good.
the gun flashes were not that good, sorry, seems like they were on the every other frame, try to space them out and resize them slightly each time.
Good luck with it.

Yeah the bluescreen was done pretty good......I found it hard to hear what the guys were saying because of the echoes (maybe it is just me).....the gun shots were in my opinion mega cheese.....but since this is a test you can always improve on that.....

I know these muzzel flashes will be brought up over and over again...and for this I only have one argument. ALAMDV3 coming soon.....I hope. But yes I agree, the shooting was not the best.
Fortunately the point of this little exercise was to try and match the color of the action plate with that of the 3D background, and I think it came out somewhat reasonable.

Ok, one very easy to fix bluescreen problem, in one shot, the bottom right corner of the screen had leftover unkeed screen, garbage matte it out, other than that, perfect keying. Nice cg, everything. Muzzleflashes bit. Don't release your film until it is PERFECT, because this one could have been, the titles were weak, and maybe add some artificial zoom to a few shots.nice props and costumes. Good film thingy, 4/5 for great everything, looks like fun.

A litte background about the keying of this project. Iniatially all keying was done in vegas. It worked beautifully except for the corners. So I deceided to finally buy Chromanator.
Glad I did. I know about garbage mattes, 3/4 of all the clips use them. That particular one just somehow slipped through.
But thank-you Serpent. Its people like you who catch the little things that in the end make a production worth watching.

That was a nice 3D render, i liked the textures. There was a problem with the keying in one shot down near the left hand corner, it was all flikery. The muzzle flashes stunk, sorry man, but it was pretty good. The sound was a little too echoey, you probably want to play around a bit to make it sound like they are in that tomb. You are gonna wanna work on the lighting in both parts to make it look seamless. The part where the bullets were hitting the walls was not too good. It was basically a puff of smoke. Get Sollthars smoke plugin off the site, and use the Wall Hit plugin that looks like concrete to make it look like something actually hit it. One thing i have to ask, is that end title gleam thing a Vegas plugin? 4/5.

Just downloading it now...
While we're on the topic of Stargate... does anyone else think that the spin-off Atlantis is a dissapoinment? For me, it fails to create any of the excitement or gripping viewing that Stargate does!

Good teaser. The CGI are really cool and the costume too.
Just change de stetting for the echo in the voice. I sound more like a guy talking in a big metal tunnel then a stone temple. A we have lot of difficulty to understand the dialogue.
PS: Atlantis is not very good...The character are not interesting and the story bofff...

Atlantis is boring
I'm lucky enough to have MGM visit my forums now ( to check i'm not showing stargate stuff ) and we have mentioned on the forum that Atlantis sucks and that they should think about giving the stories back to the public ( as next gen did ) we all can create far better ( and cheaper ) stories than thos in Atlantis.
when is your stargate penned for release ?

b4uask30male, Stargate - SG2 is slated for release end of summer, 2005. The working title is - The Ninth Symbol - , and information as its made available can be found at www.bluesmokestudios.com/projects/stargatesg2/home.htm
PS I agree with you all. Atlantis does not merit the name Stargate in front of it.

I like it... great blue/green screening. I'll look forward to the final release.
At least I'm not the only one who thinks Atlantis sucks... almost as big a missed opperunity as the Matrix sequels

All the 3D work was done from scratch in 3ds Max 5. I still have so much to learn...

Hey very cool, I would recommend a little less echo on the audio, it's really not necessary and seems out of place.

Nice job -- I liked it. Seemed like the one soldier (nearest our view) looked directly at the camera twice near the end of the trailer before firing his weapon . . . Very cool though, looking forward to the finished product.

You should be carefull with Stargåte name.
It´s after all copywrighted trademark and corporations don´t like if someone is using their valuable names.
If I right remember Call It a Stargate was forced to change name.
But great work anyway.
Gate animation in the end was nice.

Muzzle flash belongs to my skill level and is most certainly out of place in this superb piece of filming, editing ,sound and so on and on.First class in professionalism and slickness....a joy to watch.....can't wait wait for full version. .This really is at the top end of filmmaking...well done.
