As you all know, the FXhome team have been working full steam ahead on the preview releases over the Christmas period. Progress has been good, which is why we've put up the more recent news articles to show you some of the great effects you can expect to play with in AlamDV3.

Our hope was to get the preview release of AlamDV3 out by the end of 2004. We are getting very close to a preview release but it won't quite be ready in time for the new year.

Everything you have seen in the articles is generated straight from our internal beta version, so lots of good stuff is working. We are currently tying up all the loose ends - building the last filter/effect interfaces, optimising the Chromanator masking system for the new engine and finalising the file format.

We'll post up a list of the remaining jobs when the new year hits, so that you can track our final progress up to the release of the preview.

Chromanator timestamp update now available

A free update to Chromanator is now available that will reset your timestamp, enabling you to continue using the program as normal. All Chromanator users should download this update as soon as possible.

This update should also fix the permission problems on Mac OS X that some users experienced.

The update can be downloaded from here:

http://fxhome.com/chromanator/downloads.html

Asia quake

Everyone is no doubt aware of the massive earthquake that took place over the weekend, devastating many countries with a tsunami that impacted upon the shores of the Indian Ocean and even farther afield. The full scale of the tragedy is still unfolding, and we hope that the world will come together to offer its full support and resources to those involved.

All of us on the FXhome.com team would like to wish the best to anyone involved in the disaster and our condolences to those of you that have lost friends and family.

For more information, please check the BBC News website.

If you wish to donate to the rescue and recovery effort, there are many charities and organisations already hard at work, including the following:

Oxfam
British Red Cross
American Red Cross
Save the Children
UNICEF

Wizard posted an excellent listing later in this thread. You can jump straight to it by clicking here.

If you know of other donation websites you would like us to mention, let us know and we'll add them to the list.

I'll put together the final working list in the next few days for those of you who are interested in checking out our progress.

Not sure if it should include every little detail (so jobs that take over a day and ones which take 5 minutes) or be just like a short list of main topics which are being finished?

Any preferences?

schwar, i think it should just be the main jobs e.g.

- Finalizing Particle System
- Final Filter/effect Completed

Etc that sort of thing i think would be ok, if it helps you?

nice update guys. Good to see you didn't rush the programs out this year if they aren't completely working and finalized. Good luck finishing it all up and I can't wait to give it a spin. I need some muzzle flashes for a movie I have in post, and I think I'll wait for ADV3 before I add them. Thanks a million guys, you are sooo close to the "finish" line, then you can all rest and... uh... stuff. biggrin

I would rather wait those extra days than get version after version with ridiculously smal number changes like other software I could mention.

Thoughts go to those are less fortunate.

Really? tard I don't think FEMA is an appropriate place to donate for this particular disaster. In fact FEMA is a government(American) agency, so I don't think it is a charitable organization for donations at all? Though the American gov't is sending quite a bit of $ and personnel & equipment, thankfully. But some of the others listed including the American Red Cross are so if you can spare a little I am certain they can use all the help the can get. What I think would be best is physical help in recovery ops and clean up restoring water, food, sewage systems, and housing. But I am certain anyone in the vicinity is already helping and likley not reading this post.

I realize that it has been a while since I have posted anything, but this is rather important. I also realize that this is quite a big post, but bear with me. This may give some of you a better look at charities that are taking donations nearest to you. I just thought that this would take away some of the hassles of looking for a charity. There are also some religion specific charities in here too, if that is at all a concern of yours. So please give a look through these and maybe one will suite you best. Hope this helps.
Thank you FxHome users.

I've already donated £30 , doesn't sound much, but the news said it pays for a medical kit for about 1000 people, or was it 100, I can't remember, but it does help someone.

Thanks for the update. The first thing I did was to check when the time for this version of Chromanator runs out. At first I read 05-01-2005 (I though by then that you meant 5th of January 2005 and I got really excited. Then I read the words "US Format", a.k.a 1st of May 2005.

Anyway, will "Mammoth Update" be released before that?

The biggest change will be the interface, which is being upgrade to bring it into line with AlamDV3. It's a much more fluid way of working, and removes the need to continuously jump back and forth between the object and project views.

There will also be a few new specific features and gizmos, of which...more later. smile
