Hi to all, i'm in pre production of a star wars fan film with some friends (we're getting a show reel together because we want to start a film company) We need a few cut scenes of ships in space flying towards planets. Would anyone like to work for free, who knows where it will lead

Thanks in advance

I'll laugh if you find someone to do it for free.

Learning a 3D programme like Blender (which is free) is really easy. Just need some maturity and patience. Then you can download starwars models and create your own scenes very quickly.

I think that he is wondering if anyone is interested on this, and if so he will provide details?

I can help maybe once the details are revailed. Tommy, it isn't hard to get good free 3d work in a film around these parts. some people do it to gain expierience, help out, be a part of the film, and have fun.

Hi thanks for the reply's guys. i just need some ships flying towards different planet for cut scenes when the characters arrive at their destination i.e the begining of duality when the ship flys towards the planet, i don't really need to see it landing the the idea that its there. The ships i need are some sort of craft for the bad guys (Sith) and one for the Jedi maybe a Millenium Falcon type ship. Its set around Ep1 & 2 so the ships have to be believable in that time line.

Thanks again for taking an interest, hope someone wants a project

I've already done 1, It's kind off a naboo cruiser shape thing for the bad guys flying into a brownish planet in 640x480 quicktime but i don't know how to upload it up onto the internet.

I've got an ISD Flyover shot that was never used for a film, if you wanna take a look at it... There's also some tie fighters escorting a shuttle too that were never used, so if you like those shots I can let you use them...

Check out my stuff on http://www.geeksgonebad.com

and go to "Videos" and the stuff is there...

Cool... CYA!

and if you need them altered, just let me know, I think I still have everything as it was with the source files... I think wink

I'm doing free work right now.... A simple weeks worth of work for one person has somehow turned around into several months worth of modeling and animation work for two people. All for free. ;(

I'm caitious with free work...

That and i don't do space shots, casue any work I do goes into my demo reel, and if an employer sees a space shot, that demo reel goes in the garbage. lol.

Hopeful you find people with the time to give you what you want...

Hey, JamieC7

I had a school project to do a forcefield, and the one I did kinda looks like the one on your website.. Except there were more layers composited. I guess that look is the current fad for forcefields. lol.

smile When I thought "Forcefield" that's what I thought of... I think I kinda tried to make it look like the forcefield that those robots were using on Episode I...??? smile

That was done in After Effects, I applied animated Fractal Noise to a layer and then the Sphere plug in, I think... Pretty easy really smile

How'd you do yours?

I did mine in Maya.. used the standard Marble material and animated it's attributes.. Also did a version of it using a standard Ocean material. Took both of those and sliced them in half, so the forcefield would physicaly encase the guy that it appears around.

The rest I did in Combustion.

I composited both the ocean and marble versions together to give my forcefield an interesting look. Then I used the marble render as a displacement layer to distort the background. Then I roto'ed around the guy casting the forcefield (as he was standing in snow) and animated a mask to reveal a shot of the same place without snow, so it looks like the forcefield melts the snow away. I also used a mask so the forcefield would come out of his hands and around him as well. Looked alright for 3 days worth of work and no greenscreen.

Hmm. Call me an old cynic, but the answer to "who knows where it will lead?" when asked under these circumstances is "nowhere. Fast."

There's tons of free models out there and 3d isn't THAT hard, if you just want stuff for an amateur film. Plus, it's morally improving to do things for yourself. Apparently.

Hi
Jamie C7 - you're ISD is great and the shuttle flying to the planet is cool. What i'm needing is a sith ship to hold 3 people flying toward a few different planets for cut scenes just like the shuttle vid you did, and a republic ship with a kind of Millenium Falcon type ship launching into space with maybe a few other x wings etc flying around. I would also like some corousant city shots (flyby type) and maybe some interiors, the whole movie is gonna be green screened and at the mo we're looking at having to use backdrops that are not ours which isn't good :o/ But anything you could help us with would be great. We're working on a teaser trailer right now so i'll send you that when its done to see if you wanna be involed

Thanks again

Hey Silencer,

I'm been involved with projects where someone has said "I want this:" and then gone on to verbally explain what they want.. HOWEVER what's going on in their head and what they write down tend to be different things.. Just to avoid some confusion and have somone spend a week producing something for you and then for you to say "Umm.. That's not what I asked for", Do you have any storyboards or animatics you can post for people? That would really help to get the idea across.

Ahhh I see i could try to do some ani but i'm just a beginner :o) hows this: I need a planet in view any bottom corner, then a ship comes into view from either bottom or top of screen and flys toward the planet scaling away and down as if landing on planet. I also would like a first person view flying through Corousant showing buildings etc and ending on the Jedi council temple. To end this large want, i would like some shots of interiors for fight scenes and character interaction ie: hangers, rooms cockpits etc.

I hope this helps more guys

Thanks

I can see from your other posts that you're trying to knock this out yourself... Good for you and good luck smile

anyway though, all this talk of space ships and planets made me want to try one, so here it is! smile

I made the planet from three spheres (surface, clouds, and atmosphere) and Lightwave's procedural textures. No picture textures at all, just built in LW procedures... smile (I know all you non LWers are getting jealous ;p) LOL unless your app HAS built in procedural textures, then... good for you smile

and I made the stars - whoopdedoo! smile LOL actually it's a 90100 single point poly star sphere with 9 different star types, so actually, it IS kinda cool smile

I DID NOT make the ship... I wish... But I am modelling my own ship to replace the Excelsor, so the scene will be "all mine" when I'm done...

so without further ado... http://www.geeksgonebad.com/videos/excelsor-divx.avi (^5MB so right-click and save as...)

C & C are always welcome, but remember that's NOT my ship... smile

thats great, the planet looks really nice i can never get my planets to look like that lol it'd be cool if it lasted a bit longer so the ship went into the atmosphere with from burning appearing...look at me getting all director like :o\ anyway thats great, if you change the ship could i use it in my movie?

well, the Star Trek ships like this one don't enter the atmosphere smile

and Star Wars ships don't "Burn" on the "re-entry" do they? I'd have to watch a couple of SW movies, but I don't think they actually show it anyway, do they? smile

Usually they just have the ship coming in towards the planet (like Jamie's clip) and then cut to it landing on the landing pad or people getting out or something.
