One of the worst trailers I've ever seen.

They don't seem to realise that you simply can't call a film Fantastic Four these days, due to the shifting meanings in the English language. And then to compound the problem with those absurd title cards...

"4 became......fantastic!"

It could only be more camp if it had said "4 became......fabulous!"

Plus they even use txt-style writing - "4 ever" - in a lame attempt to appeal to the linguistically-challenged youth of today.

Don't even get me started on The Thing. He's meant to be made of rock, not foamy rubber. Where's Rick Baker when you need him?

Add in appalling music choice and an annoying sense of self-aware comedy - the "cool" line at the end, made all the more ironic by the trailer's utter lack of cool - and it looks like it's heading straight for the Daredevil and Catwoman category of comic book movies.

Personally I'm of the mind that you can only do a Fantastic Four movie if you set it in period, in the 60s. Either that or you have to approach it completely differently...except The Incredibles beat them to it on that one.

Eurgh.

That trailer was horrible. Wasn't dramatic or captivating at all. I sure hope the movie is better, but I doubt it, based on this.

Hmmm, i'm inclined to agree although my opinions aren't quite so vehement as Tarns. The trailer itself is just one irritatingly average special effects shot after another, which does the actual plot of the film no favours.

With no plot highlighted in the trailer (its not even a teaser, in which a lack of plot might be acceptable), it would suggest there will be no plot in the film either, otherwise they'd surely have plenty of material to entice viewers?

As far as the shots themselves go, i didn't see one thing which was vaguely new. A strong one *coughhulk*, a firey one *coughpyro*, a lightening one *coughstorm* and a zoomy one....can't think of anything for that but its too late by now. Big F**king deal. I'm aware that many superheros have similar powers, but with hundreds of millions being spent on tens of identical comic films all within the space of two or three years, its getting horribly repetitive.

As far as music goes, using A Perfect Circle is pretty cool, as i'm a huge fan, but not of the last album from which that was taken - 13 tracks, only 2 of which were written by APC themselves. The track being played is actually off the album before that, remixed. Its money-grabbing sellout-ism on only a scale that Linkin Park previously attained with that bunch of lame Hybrid Theory remixes.

I was initially annoyed that there was no scene-audio during much of it, but then it dawned on me that the sound of a crash, a smash, a whoosh, a zap, a crash a whoosh another zap, some more zaps and a crash....would probably demonstrate all too clearly to their moronic target audience, how little content there actually is in the film.

This trailer gets a distinct "Meh" in rating.

This trailer is bad, I agree. It doesn't do anything for me & tells nothing of the story - just shiny effects & nothing else. Jeez, they're even releasing it on July 4th.

I have to disagree with you about Daredevil, though. It was totally unlike the comics, & didn't have a good visual look to it (should be more gritty) but I thought it was fun & enjoyable. It had decent acting, some nice fights & effects, great music & Jennifer Garner. I think it's underrated & not a stinker on the par of Battlefield Earth or Catwoman.

Indeed, lumping Daredevil in with Catwoman was unfair. But I still consider Daredevil to be pretty awful, and vastly overrated, if anything.

To realise just how bad the FF trailer is, you only have to look at the teaser and trailer for X2 from a couple of years back. The first proper teaser didn't have a single effects shot - it was just brilliant cinematography and hints at what was going to be going on.

While it may be money-grabbing, I wouldn't really call it selling out, since I believe they only did it to get out of their contract with Virgin. Sounds like a good plan to me. Maybe someday they'll put out something good again.

This trailer had me intrigued at the beginning, and was kinda alright until the APC song started, and then the text was awful, and then the line at the end....

"You KNOW that looked cool."

Gag. The thing looks like crap, too. They got lazy with that.

Also, what about that looks anything like the most recent Star Trek?

The trailer was very average but I'm not in the 'hate' camp. I'll judge the film when I've seen it, but I'll admit to having low to middling expectations.

As for the Thing prosthetics, he doesn't look bad, just not what I was hoping for. I'm all for creating him through prosthetics rather than CGI (being as that is my field of interest) but Tarn was on the money, should have got Rick Baker, or Stan Winston.

That text was sad. It looks like they went into iMovie and just took out the "Century Fox's Movie" and changed it to what they wanted on the titles.
Not to mention "Counting Bodies" is hardly movie music.

Well, despite others, I liked it. Mostly because I've been anxious to see a F4 movie ever since they withheld the 1994 one. This one looks very promising. I liked how it was simple. Cliche, but simple. 1 will be bad. 4 will be....fantastic. Coolness. Yeah, sure, it wasnt the best, but it gave me goosebumps. (most of the effects looked extremely furnished, if you ask me.) I'm sure this is just meant as a teaser. The trailer'll probably be good. But still, I might have to pretend to be 12 at the box office, if this gets any worse. The text was very Tarentino-y. I thought it gave it a cool, grimm feel.

No need to hate, you all know you're gonna see it anyway. biggrin

I liked the music but the titles were reallly sucky and they could've done something alon ght elines of the X2 trailer and say each person's name and show a little preview of their power so that the audience actually gets what's going on. The reach through the door with Mr. Fntastic was really cool, but thw whole space part and the whole beginning didn't do anything miraculous for me. Just pretty standard. I liked this teaser-trailer alot better than War of the Worlds though, but less than A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe (not sure of the title) I'll definetly be seeing this movie, as I was interested in the 70s version- though it never was finished. I think if they want to make all of the character a bit more 'younged-up' than in the comics- a la Jessica Alba (One good reason to see the movie)- then Sean Astin with some good prosthetics would've made for a cool thing. And I don't know why, but it seems like Mickey Rourke could pull of 'The Thing' as well. I liked the Thing's facial prosthetics, but the body definetly could've been bulkier and less stretchy-looking. The Human Torch bit of it was cool. showing him jump off the roof and burst into flames, then showing him on fire on a motorcyle (would'nt the cycle blow up?) were simply awesome, though they coul've used the Rage Against the Machine tack frmo the first matrix where the guitar solo finishes and the vocal go, "Come on!" and showed him bursting into flames and that would've sold anyone. But they didn't. They barely showed any of each characer, just a bunch of random clips that were not too appeasing. I think they chose good actors- wanted to see more of Alba in the preview, as they didn't reveal much of her powers- and had good FX, and I will be seeing this on opening day.

Oh, and as for bad comic movies: The Hulk stunk. I left the theatre because it was just that bad. The plot was pretentious and the direction sloppy- I have no idea what Ang Lee was thinking. But who cares, right? It's not as bad as Catwoman.

And not to be too FXH cliche, but...
PEACE OUT

Really? I liked the beginning of the Hulk, how the credits set up a bit of mystery and how he was dealing with his life, and the marks on his legs when he was a baby; but as the story furthered, and his dad got powers and there were Hulk dogs.....

....well it just seemed to me that the screenwriter ran out of ideas so he asked some crack addict what should happen next. Just not a good script, IMO. The photography and editing on that movie was great: the way they showed multiple things on the screen at once to get the feel of an actual comic strip. It was all cool except for the script. God was that awful. I hated this film so much I sat down with all the adults I knew who said that they liked it, and swayed them all to hatred of it. I dunno why, it just wasn't a good film.

Even if he is talking as if his opinion is fact, he's not saying it's fact, is he? He's entitled to his opinion and if that's what the minus one was for then I think you should rethink your rating. I'm not trying to flame or anything, but when you go out and tell him to stop something, that's you telling him to stop telling people what he says is right, am I right? So what makes you any better? Again, I'm not trying to flame, or spam or anything, it's just.....everyone should stop and think before they post. I know I do.

If you stop and think before you post, then you must not think very long.

There's something extremely weird about the word "fantastic". I can't fully describe it, but when used to describe rubber clad men... it's just in some way really, really wrong.
No doubt the film will be a high budget effects feast, but ultimately like the trailer said... this movie will only change 5 people.

It's just a trailer, and I can think of loads of great films with lousy trailers, and vice versa. So I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until I've seen it. It's going to look good in comparison the the first attempt ... now THAT was a bad movie ...

Did anyone see the first film ?
It was made in the 80's
It was never released but somehow a pirate copy went around, it was bad.
But the reason it was bad was because the director that made it brought the rights to make a film of it, in the contract he had to make a film.
He knew his film would be bad but had to make it, he plan was to hold onto the rights for anyone else that wanted to make a Fan 4 film. He knew he would get more money holding onto the rights than making and releasing his film.

He done what he said he would do but he didn't count on the fact that the next lot of people making it might make it as bad as his version.

I remember seeing the first film, flame on was a cartoon guy flying around, the rest was just make up.
Oh well,

I've seen it. I loved it. It was terrible ....

I loved the way that Dr. Doom overcompensated for his mask by gesticulating wildly and they crammed in the Mole Man, whether he fitted or not. The only thing about the movie that was halfway decent was the Thing suit, although the arms were a bit weedy. And Mr. Fantastic's big bendy arm waving out of the limo roof at the end ... If the new movie isn't going to be good I can only pray it's as bad as the first one. I'll at least enjoy that.

Actually, the Thing suit in the Corman (80s) version looks WAY better than the new one, and it costed a fraction of this one, I'm sure. That suit sucks major eggs (the 20th Century Fox version)... Looks like the robot from Red Dwarf... And Red Dwarf had two things to justify themselves: no money and and it was a comedy.

I am also VERY worried because of the director, Tim Story. I have two words for you: Taxi remake. The trailer for that was so embarrassing and the movie bombed because it sucked beyond comprehension...

I'm afraid FF will suffer the same fate. The effects actually looked pedestrian... Not a good sign for a super-hero movie...

I pretty much just laughed at the stupidity of the trailer while I was watching it.....the words were so dumb in the beggining....I thought the trailer could get any more hilariuos/dumb....but then the ending came with "You know that looked cool".....haha I burst out laughing.....very cheese...just like all the other marvel movies.

Whoa. I knew 20th's Thing reminde me of someone. Yeah, he is almost exactly like Red Dwarf's robot, save the space suit and higher intelligence. Anyone know where to find the 80s version (I thought it was 70s)? I've been looking for it for some time- it may have sucked, but some screenshots I've seen make it look really cool....especially the old Thing costume. Well, if anyone gets any updates on Fan 4 please post.

I agree... and the Director's Cut of Daredevil, in my opinion, was MUCH better than the theatrical/original DVD release. It fleshed out who Matt Murdock was and relegated the Daredevil/Electra romance to a subplot, as opposed to having it be the center of the story. Battlefield Earth wasn't even watchable for free on HBO and I haven't been able to force myself to watch Catwoman yet.

As to this trailer, I actually thought it looked promising... will it be another Spider-Man/X-Men? Probably not. Will it be another Hulk? I hope not...

Did anyone see the first film ?
It was made in the 80's
Oh, by the way, guys, I thought I'd put things straight. The Fan4 film that never was released wasn't in the 70s or 80s.

Oh dear, that didn't look cool...

Down there with Daredevil (why didn't I leave the cinema) and Catwoman (didn't even dare go in to the cinema) for me. Oh, and the last 10mins of the Hulk (liked the rest of it).

Will watch this on DVD I expect just to see if it really is a shocker.
