I made a video in vegas 5 and imported it in AlamDV2. It was 720x480, 29.970 fps). I added my effects and exported it as a QuickTime file. After I played it back, it was distorted and it had bad picture.

check the codec, and make sure its uncompressed, and alamdv doesnt retain sound

do I check the codec from vegas or alamDV?

vegas uses its own codec by default, the alamdvv settings appear when you try and render

What would be the best file format to render to?

Try using either DV-NTSC/PAL, Sorenson 3, or i find animation works for me nicely sometimes.

i tend to do my alam effects, render uncompressed full frames, import to nle, add sound, titles, and whatever then if it calls for it i import into softimage or combustion

always export in the highest qualaty i know it takes longer but its worth it
