Saw this site in my bro's "Nintendo Power" and found it quite intruiging.

It's a DS tatoo, essentially. And, while most people prefer the plain silver, for people like me, who has two brothers with DS's, its a good thing to have.

I am getting a custom one, and these are months old. I don't know which one I saw, it was green and it was very cool looking on the DS, I would get a different one than the one the kid had, but it looked natural.

I'll probably get a DS when the price goes down a little. I've never been one to pay over $100 for a handheld smile

Really looking forward to all the N64 remakes.

A few points to bring up, There wont be too many N64 remakes. As for the price drop, that won't be happening in a long time.

I just hope they'll figure out that they need to make Jet Force Gemini, Diddy Kong Racing, and maybe even Banjo Kazooie. (And Banjo Tooie!)

those sticker things look a bit cheesy... I don't like how there are huge holes for the speakers, it makes it look like a sticker, not like it was made to look like that, which is why i'd want one.

They need to make more new games, put your past behind. And Goldeneye could definately be Rogue Agent, and they use wireless multiplayer for any multiplayer game, so yeah... Diddy Kong Racing was awesome, but you are seriously picking the worst of the best N64 games. And why Banjo?? They should make a new different innovative Banjo game...

Dude, those weird remake games suck. Banjo.....one of the worst games? No way! Jet Force, Mario Party, Yoshi's Story, Diddy Kong, it's all good! I never had a N64, but all my friends did, and those are the games I remember and love. Maybe if I had a N64 to play all those games on, I'd think different. But for now, I want my oldies! smile

Oh, Banjo was one of the best, but I say a new Banjo game if they can get Rare to do it, but Microsoft seems to be on the DS side, so we can only hope. And I definately said "worst of the best." Way to read. BTW: You apparently didn't play Yoshi's story throughout, it sucked. But why can't we be more centered towards new games? You are forgetting the best of the best:

OOT
Golden Eye
Majora's Mask
(Yes Banjo)
DK 64
Mario 64
Star Fox 64
SSB
Mario Party 1 and 2 (3 never existed guys, trust me)

And much much more. But we need new games, but new games we will get regardless. Maybe after this USB charger that came out there will be some N64 emulators, maybe some Super Nintendo ones? Who knows. But whoever posted meh on the vote, please explain? What is

Dude, I have a DS, so don't get on me about all the "capabilities" and such, etc. But, they're saying all this stuff will come out, and be awesome and all, when you have know idea if its actually true. There's a big difference between saying something can do something, and actually doing it.

Do you mean to say that MP-3 wasn't a good game! For shame Mr. Serpent, for shame. IMO, 3 was the best out of all the N64 releases. I have a lot of memories associated with Mario Party, 3 especially.

Cool decals. I havn't yet desided between the PSP or the DS (right now it's leaning towards the DS), well I guess it will be easier when I can actually hold them. (Not released in Europe before the end of March neutral )

What are you talking about?!? Where are you quoting "capabilities?" I never even said that word... All I said was here are some of my faves, then I said we need new games regardless, and who is they? They, if you mean Nintendo, Rareware, and others, they never announced they will be making any of those. PLease explain your post because I couldn't truely understand what you are blabbing on about now.

Speaking of importing... The Play Chan media player for the DS is about to be sold online. With Nintendo mini games that come along with it. This player can play mp3s and mp4's, I will surely get it and upload some FxHome vids to it. smile Erm, EDIT: http://ds.ign.com/articles/589/589525p1.html?fromint=1

Just realized, this mini games will be downloadable and a new one released every friday.

Is Play Chan a card like other DS games and you add files to it, or is it a program that stores on the DS's internal memory?

It is a thing that goes in the GBA slot and you upload vids to a little card, then you pop theat in the thing that is in the GBA slot.

Are you sure the SD card doesn't go in the DS slot, and the program in the GBA slot? Whatever, it doesn't matter. So when is this coming out, do you think? I went to their website, but it was in Japanese.

Whoops! It's already out, I read. How do we purchase it though?

.... Yes I am sure, since I have seen one. The SD card goes into the device that is put in the GBA cartridge. SD cards aren't designed for the DS card slot... It should be available soon. The site is just to show you the first minin game that is coming out. It can run under Windows I think.

This is how it wil look, from what I have seen, It will start up, do the DS menu if you have it set to that, press the Play Chan logo at the bottom where GBA are displayed. Then it will have a title screen, most Japanese have an American tile, then Japanese translation underneath. Then you just selct your file. So it is probably up to you wether or not you put it in Japanese. I predict a US version will come out. Especially since Nintendo just copyrighted the name: Nintendo V-Pocket. Personally I don't care because it isn't a game with dialougue, so I will probably just use the imported version. Maybe there is a language setting in Play Chan as well, but like I said, who cares? V-Pocket could also be the rumored PDA Software, but regardless, it will probably have a US version or English under the language settings.

Menus? Who says there is menus. But anyways, it is 90$. Not hard to figure menus buddy, you don't have to know japanese. And trhere may not even be menus. Redhawk, since DS is Region-Free, you can play any game from any counttry, any combo of game to system etc, without anything special.

Just because its 3rd party automatically makes it crap? what exactly is wrong with it?

Serpent, are you really going to pay nearly $100 for that rinky dink thing that isnt even manufactured in english? I mean, sure, it may only have some sort of subtext in japanese, but wouldnt you still want an "english" one?

Rinky dinky? Call me stupid but that is a much better deal than buying say, an iRiver media player... Much less money, and I can figure out menus, like I said, unless you type the file name in Japanese, you are fine. I know where to get it btw, but thanks for the effort. As for the TV tuner, it is said to be bad quality and bulky. (IGN I believe.)

I'll wait and see if the american version comes out cheaper. Getting an expensive add on for the DS that isn't even in English... how bout no? Unless Nintendo is EVIL and doesn't bring it over to the US, I'm gonna wait for it here. Just seems like a waste to me.

Holy fu$%?!!!! http://ds.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=1611&pg=1&comments=&preview=
Steve Jobs's recent letter to Satoru Iwata, this is no joke, this site is reliable, and awesome. PLease read this article where Jobs suggest Apple and Nintendo team up for technical awesomeness reasons, and to take out Sony. HOLY CRAP!!!!

EDIT: Heh, sorry, this is fiction. It would be cool if it was real. For the person who rated me down, I am so sorry I offended you... I thought it was a cool link, I posted it, and I made a mistake. I think that is a tad harsh...

Really, you love to stir the bowl of trouble and get these heated arguments going don't ya?
No, I just like to treat you guys as human guinea pigs in a large psychology experiment.

That said, I'm not paying $150 for a handheld N64.

let me just point out that the DS's titles are not ALL ports of N64 games and the ones that are are ports of GOOD N64 games.... for the most part... every system has its bad games.

Not to mention N64 didn't have 2 screens, one of which being a touchscreen, and wireless multiplayer... confused

Oh, dang, I was to excited to comprehend...

But anywho, there hasn't and never will be an N64 port, and the on;y closest thing to it is Mario 64 DS. You have to be a complete idiot to think of a DS as a handheld N64 considering there is only one "port." The rest of the games will all be original, sequels, etc. And yes, the touch screen and wifi really add to its fun.

If Apple were to team up with someone, it would be with Sony. It's rather obvious too, as the PSP will clearly be more popular, and poses a huge threat to the iPod. Steve also seems to be friends or something of the sort with the Sony president, as he already teamed up with Sony on the HDV front.

Anyway, why are we talking about this?

Thats debatable. With the hardcore gamers... maybe, but overall, Nintendo has far more weight in the casual handheld gamer's mind. It's really up in the air. The DS and PSP are 2 totally different machines, and I'm kind of getting tired of comparing them because they are just THAT different.

Indeed. Although if you generalize, casual gamers are usually highly influencable, and therefore when they see it on paper, they'll most probably go for the PSP:

DS:

-2 screens, one is a touch screen. Original and fun. Not very High res though
-slighly better than N64 graphics
-works with gameboy games
-can get addons
-N64-ish games and some more mature games
-very long battery life
-pretty durable
-150$

PSP:

-one big huge LCD with 16 : 9 aspect ratio and high resolution
-slighly less than PS2 graphics
-only works with UMDs, but the format will most probably be opened soon
-comes with MP3 and Video playback built in, will probably get features added through firmware
-mostly PS2-ish games and almost all are rather mature
-comes with a case, earphones, remote, 32MB Memory Stick, Battery
-battery length varies on use, though is a bit lacking
-apparently not very durable, although hasen't been confirmed
-250$

Although Nintendo would have more weight in people's minds in the handheld market I think the PSP will possibly be more popular because Playstation is probably the best know games console/s in the world and therefore the PSP, as a result of carrying the Playstation name will be more recogniseable.

I'll probably give the DS a miss and go for the PSP when it comes out, I've never been a huge Nintendo fan and IMO the PSP looks a lot nicer and looks like it would suit me better than the DS.

Rawree, PS2 is not the best know or even best selling gaming device to date. As of now it is the Nintendo GameBoy Advanced. Many from kids to adults are seeing this as "cool, a new better, more fun gameboy!" Also, I believe Nintendo is about to annonce something big, Iwata has something somewhere up hi sleeve, (Probably online) and is going to announce a big game that is going online, hopefully before the PSP comes out. There were these ""less fortunate" (poor, sadly) kids in my school, and I was playing DS, and they went "DANG, that thing must be 100$ or something!" It was indeed 150, and they couldn't believe it, now imagine if you told them it was $250. Those kind of kids-adults are a pretty big audience.

I agree with Serpent. The PSP is too expensive for most consumers. Maybe some rich gamers who own all consoles, but not someone who is still playing a Gameboy Pocket. There are some poor kids who immigrated from Mexico at my school, and they have DS's and even though they said the PSP would be what they would want the most; the DS is a good, affordable alternative. When you're selling a product you have to be able to appeal to all audiences. And the PSP just doesn't. Plus, you're going to have to buy ALL NEW games with a 50 dollar price tag per game; something not everyone can cough up the cash for. With the DS, it's backwards compatible; so you have less cost. If anyone remembers, I was an AVID PSP supporter, but Serpent, in all his glory, has turned me to the dark (Nintendo) side. You've got to think about everyone you're selling your product to.

The PSP is 250 Bucks, actually

Because in the US it will only come out with the value pack stuff.

And that article is dated October 2004. That is the Japanese price for the non-value pack one.

No, then the value pack is 250 bucks. The PSP is still $195 (or so). I don't say an Xbox costs $200 even though they have packages that reach that price.

You'll only be able to get a PSP from the stores with the value pack items, so it is 250$, even if the unit itself is worth about 195$.

Well are we talking unit worth or package price? A PSP does not cost $100 more than a DS. The value pack does. And even if it's only initially released with the value pack schtick, places like Electronics Boutique or eBay will likely start selling individual refurbished units, and those units are not going to be $250.

Can we please not start on another DS/PSP debate? The psp isn't $250. It's $195, like sidewinder said. And, I guarantee you that gaming stores'll split up the packs, because, being smart, they know'll they'll sell twice as many PSP units if you don't have to buy the whole bundle. (Which, btw, some bundles have great games like Spiderman 2, THUG 2: remix, NFS: Underground Rivals, Grand Theft Auto, etc.)

And, yes, the DS is still awesome. But, all its features/capabilities have already been mentioned, so I won't get into that.
I have a DS, and yes, I probably will get a PSP. So why argue? neutral If you get a PSP, you get a PSP. If you get a DS, you get a DS. That still doesn't change the fact that: I'll still have both. smile

Serpent, I didn't say that the Playstation was the best selling games platform I just said that in my experience it's the more recognisable. If you ask a lot of more casual gamers to name a games platform then it will probably be Playstation because through all of the Gameboys and N64s and Gamecubes there has been Playstation (of one sort or another) which means that while Nintendo go through all kinds of names for their products Sony have kept one meaning that everyone (even people's parents) will know what a Playstation is but probably wouldn't really have a clue what a DS is.

Either way I really do think the PSP is the better looking device and that the DS looks a bit less swish and I think that the looks have a lot to do with it (one reason Ipods are still so popular I think).

Oh and Atom, debate is fine as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I see no reason for someone to say "Oh no not another < > debate, lets stop guys" just when it gets interesting.

well I can tell you now that I thought the DS was a bit on the ugly side when viewing it online, but once I held it in my hands at a local store, and was able to look at it from a gamers perspective, it was really nice looking, not to mention durable. Its like a rock. But I still think that the 2 systems can't be effectively compared because they are very very different and bring very different things to the table. Both are great systems, and it all comes down to which you prefer.

Oh, and if you can buy both systems, you're one lucky bastard. unsure

I agree, the PSP design is beautiful, I still like the DS design though. One problem with the beauty of the PSP, Sony is really liking it too much to change it. The main designer refuses to change it even after many complaints from Japanese gamers that are saying the square button is jamming due to its clossness to the screen. But I must agree, PSP looks rather dashing.

Not really anything to do with closeness to screen - it was untrimmed resin that made the button stick. So the button didn't have to be moved for the problem to be solved.
