Yeah, so, although ben begged me not to, I bought WarioWare touched yesterday. I've been playing it, and I have to say: I wish I hadnt spent my $35 on it. It started off a bit odd, then slowly progressed into new games, but its just become the same odd things odd microgames over and over again. So, what I'm asking is.......did anybody else buy it? What'd you think? A rip, or what?

That looks like possibly the worst game ever created. It was hard to tell, as I couldn't keep the window open for more than 20 seconds before the music made me want to destroy something beautiful.

Spending that much money on something aimed at an audience half your age is probably where you went wrong.

Games like that should be sold with a pack of ritalin.

It's highly addictive and actually quite a great deal of fun.

Crazy manic Japanese mini games.
That's the way forward.

(I played a very early version of the game last summer, so my above comment isn't about the final released version).

Maybe it's just me, but this game rocks. It is the strangest game in the world. You guys should at least try it out on a real DS.

I wont buy this game. I don't have a DS. But why would I? The current software lineup does not look very promising, certainly nothing compared to the Song PSP, that should be good.

Sorry that list was old (May), replaced it with the launch titles instead.

Besides, most of the DS games are either RPG's, Mario/Donkey Kong/etc games, or platformers.

Fairness? Where's the competition? If you like PSP, like it, if you lke DS, like it. There is no "better one." DS Has MPHunters (probably online), it wins. smile

Yeah, but GTA was made for Sony, so they'll initially make it better than the DS, anyway.

The reason I posted that was backing up the DS on this post: "I wont buy this game. I don't have a DS. But why would I? The current software lineup does not look very promising, certainly nothing compared to the Song PSP, that should be good."
Why do opposite opinionated gamers come in and post things like "DS games look bad, PSP looks better." Then that triggers an argument and of vcourse, because I am backing up my system, now I started it... Wow. Waser, the DS does not have the rights to GTA, that is only the GBA. As for the PSP version, it will, from my prediction, suck. They are making it within five months, it will probably be pretty much a port if they are going to accomplish this with a decent title. Unless they are reallly fast, and good.

I just saw an ad for this on TV... a little strange to see a game using "touching is good" as their marketing strategy. I mean, I understand the whole touchpad concept and all, but that's pushing into the red on the creepy meter. hugegrin

Since this has descended into a DS vs PSP debate, I'll give my view.

I like the PSP more. It looks a better product for my kind of gaming, & its specs sound fantastic. Better graphics than Playstation One in the palm of your hand? Me likes. And the fact it will play movies? I like that too. It's a step in the direction I thought mini consoles had to go. I just wonder how the battery life will hold up. These tests are helpful

http://psp.ign.com/articles/574/574557p1.html

Basically showing that they need some better batteries...Mp3 playback is impressive though.

The DS doesn't seem so attractive. For me, the dual screen thing is a novelty but not something that can endure. I like Gameboys & have an Advance, & that's cool enough for what I want. I would welcome a Nintendo Gameboy that allows playback of their classic platform games & also go towards what they have to offer in the Gamecube, e.g. a Zelda game. Where the f*** is a Zelda game in that list? I see Nintendo pulling in 2 directions with the DS & it's not good. On the one hand, they're trying to outmatch PSP by offering the same games, which will inevitably be compared. Then they're rightly thinking, what differences can we offer? What they've come up with seems too different. I mean what use is the screen apart from playing games like Warioworld Touched? PS2 had the EyeToy, which they made an accessory, not part of the structure of the console, & we see how shortlived that is. Play it a couple of times then ditch it in the corner of your room.

Personally, I think the Nintendo DS is brilliant. I spent alot of time last week playing on one and the touch screen isn't something that bothers me mainly because you're not forced to use it.
It's also stressless to use unless the game in hand makes a point of using it for some devious purpose. For example you can play through Mario without so much as looking at the second screen but it does provide a useful map of the area you're in, you don't need the touch screen but in metroid hunters the touch screen becomes a necessity.

I prefer the DS to the PSP... why? Because the PSP = Playstation - GTA.

And when you take GTA away from the playstation, there isn't a whole lot... if anything left to keep me interested. Sony don't seem to realise that console games don't often work on handheld consoles, they end up extremely fiddly or annoying... and Nintendo seem to have found a way round that.

This is all off topic anyway, Nintendo hate Europe so whatever happens the Nintendo customers over here will have a crappy deal.

WarioWare Touched will probably be just like it is on the cube... which is extremely weird but enthralling on a really childish level. I couldn't help but cheer when I beat someone at it last year at EGN and someone elses name popped up to say "Big COCK Wins!!!".

Just a thought... so many people seem to play handheld consoles at home... It almost defeats the entire purpose of getting a handheld.

I disagree with that the Playstation is only one good game. I think that you'd agree with me that this is on a par with me saying the Gamecube is only one game. And the games it runs are pretty diverse. Jak & Dexter? Pro Evolution? Gran Turismo? Formula 1? Ico? Devil May Cry?Timesplitters? Rugby? etc etc. They will expand the titles of the PSP even more so that shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, the games it has may not be to your taste, & that's a fair comment, but the game lists seem similar in some respects. I agree too, console games can be very annoying handheld, though PSP may have cracked that by including an analogue stick which should help control it like you'd control the PS2.

Looking forward to the new Gameboy though.

Wait, PSP's movies only last 2 hours battery life. Not to mention that you have to buy 20$ UMD's. So since you pretty much need it plugged, why not buy a DVD and watch it at home, with better quality, bigger screen, surround sound (probably), and bonus features. That's just me. I play my handheld at home, n the go, at school, in cars, multiplayer, etc. This is one of the reasons I like the DS, it is a social system.

Same reason why you would want to play a game on a handheld when you could be playing it on a big tv, with a better console and surround sound etc.

Whats stopping someone from taking a PSP at home, n the go, at school, in cars, multiplayer, etc? And how do you have time to play DS in school smile

Same reason why you would want to play a game on a handheld when you could be playing it on a big tv, with a better console and surround sound etc.

Whats stopping someone from taking a PSP at home, n the go, at school, in cars, multiplayer, etc? And how do you have time to play DS in school smile
But my portable goes places.... And DS games at th emoment IMO are better than console ones... Wow, you proved my portability issue more... I wasn't arguing against PSP, I was answering HH statement about kids playing them at home only. But PSP limits you to your home IMO for movies, so you could watch em there.

Hybrid-Halo - Actually as was pointed out, there will be GTA for the PSP. biggrin A few other games to keep an eye out for would be Need for Speed Underground Rivals, THPSU, Metal Gear Acid (great mix of RTS, RPG, and action), Grand Turismo 4, wipeOUT, and Mercury.

Serpent - so you're saying it's better for a system to not have any movie playback abilities than to have them? smile Basically what it'd be like is a portable DVD player. UMD movies will be the same price (or possibly less) as DVDs, and the PSP LCD is gineourmous and 16 : 9, and it's portable... what more could you ask for? Also, the PSP has some odd feature that allows it to entirely close down, but when you turn it back on it'll be at the same spot in a game (or possibly movie) as you were before.

Also just to clear something up: PSP graphics are closer to the PS2 than they are to the PS1 razz

What more could I ask for? Battery life... Sitting at home with surround sound and popcorn. I mean, I am not saying, PSP sucks because it can play UMD's, because all DS can do is play mp4's if you pay 24-90$. I am just saying I would never use it and it would be a dumb concept. That's all.

Alright lemme get this straight, you'd rather bring your whole home theater into the bus and at school to watch movies... or get an addon for the DS that will allow you to play files at extremely low res and on a poor screen (for videos) and sound, and that you have to rip and compress a DVD to a tiny filesize small enough to fit on the thing, than either buy a full quality UMD or stick your full quality MP4's on a memory card and play it on the Huge high-res (for a handheld) 16 : 9 PSP screen?

...suit yourself...

What? I said, I would rather watch movies at home. I wouldn't watch movies on the bus, nor anywhere, I even said "I would never use it." Wow, and I said I'm not saying PSP sucks because it has this bonus feature (not really "bonus" due to the price), because ALL DS CAN DO IS PLAY MP4's ON AN EXPENSIVE THING. BTW- I don't have a PSP or the money to buy 20$ movies for something I wouldn't want to do.

When I mention I want play yan in other threads, I am talking about to have little fxhome movies, or my movies. I would never spend 10-20 bucks on a full movie even if it was for DS. You need some glasses and/or learn to read.

pooky wrote:

You know what, I think I will watch movies in the way I like to, on a TV screen. I almost outright said PSP's media player is better, but too expensive for me, and DS's is just stupid for movies. I said "all it can do." Not "It can do it better lolz!11"

Why is it that EVERY thread about the DS turns into a debate over which is better - PSP or DS? ITS A THREAD ABOUT A DS GAME! Don't talk about the PSP! The DS is great in its own way and the PSP is great in its own way. They are both totally different! Some people will prefer PSP, some DS, and some will get both. So stop comparing them! Nintendo even kept the DS as a parallel to the GBA because they knew that it was totally different than the conventional handheld (which is what the PSP basically is, but to a huge scale). STOP turning this into PSP vs DS arguments. (I guess thats all I could have said. lol. biggrin )

Hey, guess what? Isn't it nice to know that Nintendo is releasing another handheld this year? That just toally rocks. I mean, who doesn't want to buy a new handlheld every christmas? I certainly do. I think all console makers should release a new platform every year now, so I can buy more things.

Because the PSP = Playstation - GTA
What? Why is that bad? DS just equals a handheld N64 - Goldeneye...

I personally think you've all been blinded by this touch screen novelty. Blinded! One interesting feature does not make for a gaming revolution, friends. It's still software that matters. You can't really rave about a platform until there are games to rave about. And, frankly, if I just dropped 150 bucks on the DS, I'd be pissed to hear that Nintendo's already releasing another GameBoy next fall. You can try explaining why that's good, but no one with an ounce of common sense is really going to buy that argument.

That said, WarioWare touched is a step in the right direction to make the DS a worthy piece of machinery...but what'll they be doing with the touchscreen two years from now?

Funny, are you getting this info from that analyst, because his predictions were wrong buddy. That is there back up plan IF the DS were to fail. The touch screen is just fun, we didn't say, OMG touch screen=bought. In two years fromn ow it will be great for meunus, and stuff, and still be fun for games.

A problem with the PSP compared to the DS is that it is void of novelty whatsoever. So whatever novelty the additional screen does indeed have still provides a certain amount of interest.

When playing, I treated the touch screen like less of a novelty and more of an intuitive control system. It made a nice change not having crappy controls with which to form precise movements with, this was especially noticeable in Metroid Hunters where I can precisely move and aim better than able to on even the GameCube Version of the game.

I don't doubt the PSP will be a classy piece of kit, Sony know what they're doing. But it seems a bit of a weird move for them to make. The Playstation(s) were renound for their good controls, ease of use and some class games. But those great games will be reduced to pap if you don't have the right controls in place for them... That's my greatest reservation about handhelds in general. And by my judgement Nintendo have currently conquered that. Though I dislike the releasing of another handheld this year.

I normally own all major consoles, as it's really the only way to make sure you see the best of the market. But at current there is really very little that can take my attention away from my PC, the place where all the real games live wink

It's not merely 'one' interesting feature. It's the actual DS as a whole and the potential it has. Innovative and new ideas for games will come about due to the way in which the user interacts with the DS. I've personally spoken to people who work for Capcom (amongst other companies) and they are excited to be working with fresh ideas for games that can be split between the two screens. The added inclusion of the touchscreen is indeed a selling point of the DS, but it is the handheld as a whole that could make for some of the best and most emersive games ever, let alone the best handheld games ever.

I do agree with you, the software matters, but give the DS a few more months and the ideas will begin to bleed sweetness.

er-no raises a good point. It's my belief that whilst Sony may well be pushing technology forwards, Nintendo are, and have consistantly been pushing gaming innovation and origionality forwards by simply being open to gaming ideas which may well fail.
Games like Viewtiful Joe that hit the Cube Aeons before the ps2, classics.

Good example. Nintendo allowed Capcom to make and release VJ on the GameCube, it was a fresh original idea. Viewitiful Joe was a 'suprise' hit, and sold strongly for a game that wasn't a sequel and of which its screenshots looked like something from Newgrounds. Sony saw that Viewtifiul Joe was a success, and talks began for it to be released on the Playstation 2. Comparing the final products though, even Capcom admit that the GameCube version is a lot better, as the game was 'made' for the machine.

However, the game that is apparently one of the best ever. Is Resident Evil 4. One of the highest rated games ever and the first game to be rated 9.8 by IGN. Good on Capcom and Nintendo for bothering to refresh and bring a whole new 'light' and style of play to the RE franchise.

I really don't think that's quite as accurate as you think. You've glossed over things like Katamari Damaci (I don't feel like looking up how it's spelt) or Mr. Mosquito for the PS2. I don't think you can really say that Nintendo is more open to weird game ideas, or more willing to take risks with games failing. The Sony library is just to big...

"Stay on Target!"

Sidey, Mr. Mosquito was a wacked out version of a BumbleBee game on n64. I didn't consider it to be a new concept. Though of course, there have been origional ps2 games, though not many which Isn't wholly surprising.

I can't really think of a game sequel on a ps2 that has been as different as the Mario or Zelda game sequels in terms of changing the game, or the way it works. They're often the previous game vampled up slightly.

Anyway, this is all off topic. WarioWare touched is an innovative, wacky new game that's fun in short bursts. As to which console is the better, well... only the future will tell, no amount of console-honour or lists.

Anyway what I'm trying to say is that you shoudl try to take it a little less seriously... it's done with ok? Now why are we talking about your chat sessions with evman when this thread is supposed to be about Warioware Touched?

Hmm, Rilry, you must not have played it all that much then. It is really fun for a while. It does get boring after a while, but I am not bored yet and I have already got my money's worth. For example, Kat and Ana's games are awesome, on the ski microgame you can draw different paths, for example.

Holy frickin crap you guys get annoying. WarioWare thread, guys! WARIOWARE!!!! "Stay on target!" as it was said already.

Serpent: I truthfully don't mean to pair you as the instigator to these debates, but you "seem" close-minded, and as if every comment requires a rebuttle. It doesn't. I understand though, I myself have trouble with that.
