UPDATE 21st March - Someone called 'wasyl' is apparently hassling people for plugins. Best policy is to ignore him entirely. Don't forget, giving out plugins or your FXhome details will invalidate your licence and account.

There is currently a malicious person messaging FXhome members and trying to find out personal details, in order to break into their email accounts and discover their FXhome login.

If you are messaged by an unknown person on any of your chat/messenger systems, do not respond. Note that these people will not necessarily even mention FXhome, and will use every trick in the book to get information from you.

This particular person used MSN and these were his details, so you know who to avoid:

MSN nick: »--»secret»-- I (l) U
Email: socialdemokrat@hotmail.com
FXhome nick: warpz

If you are contacted by this person or anyone suspicious, please let us know at team@fxhome.com or on the FXhome chatroom.

A leak of your FXhome or product details, even if unintentional, will result in your licence agreement being revoked.

REMEMBER: Never give personal details to anybody on the internet that you do not know in 'the real world'.

Did someone try posing as me again? Warpz sent me a pm asking me if I had any pets, but I sent one back asking him why. I suspected the only reason for anyone wanting to know such a random thing would be to hack my hotmail account.

A few minutes later, someone called socialdemokrat added me to their contact list. I began chatting to him, asked him if he was Warpz. He said no, he was Steelglass. No info was imparted. What did he do to get rustled? These stories are always entertaining on one level.

Edit: after that chat, some bloody market researcher rang me from Germany asking me to do some questions about videogames, so I wasn't able to report it...

Yes, it is the same guy. He is trying to get the answers to security questions for various webmail systems. That way he can log into them and request a new fxhome password so he can log in here.

If someone starts asking you about your pets, schools, mothers maiden name or shoe size, then try to remember if that info is relevant to any secret question. In which case, keep it secret.

You could recommend (in a buying screen) that all members use email accounts to register programs that will not be featured in their personal details. That way, you'd minimise times where the hacks actually occur, plus get wind of any attempted hackers. I didn't register with my hotmail account, so I'm fine.

Some guy called demonix sent me a pm way back in Nov 2004 asking for me to send him plugins because he didn't have a magic code for some reason. He gave me the same email as warpz.

EDIT: Oh yeh nearly forgot, I didn't send any plugins to him so don't worry.

Sorry for saying this...but he added me and told me that he is from Fxhome..so i welcomed him..etc...etc...and I asked him what his name was on Fxhome... He said Fuser..so I thought oh cool the guy who did that awesome Star Wars Fan Film.....
And u know..things get more personal..and I have a picture of my guinipig ...and he asked me what its name was...and I didnt think that that might be of such importance...and I told it to him...
I think he might be screwing around with all my logins...SO A WARNING TO EVERYONE THAT HAS ME IN MSN...BEWARE !!!!

I also have no idea, if he used my ID for the Fxhome community...
I didnt see this email until now..so I suppose he must have done alot of things up till now.... BASTARD !!!

Did your pets name have anything to do with your secret question and is your CSB info in your hotmail account?
I just checked his profile on MSN and it looks like he is from Sweeden (I'll bet he's 13 and "can't afford the products" or "can't pay for it without a credit card" or one of the usual stories as well.)

If you substitute the "h" and "c" in hacker for two other letters you have an accurate picture of him.

EDIT: Devilskater someone is using your MSN account right now, so is it you?

Just a note to give people a "to-do" action list if you believe that your account security has been compromised.

Firstly - check that your email is secure, as this is where new passwords are sent. If your password has been changed it means you need to act quickly.

Try and answer your secret question then change the secret question. Your origional password won't have been seen by any malicious users, but you'll need to make sure you set it back.

Second - login to fxhome and change your password, and make sure your correspondance email is yours. If not, then someone is in your account and you need to contact team@fxhome.com immediately.

So that's:
Secure Email
Check FXHome.

Though it may make more sense to tell Fxhome right away, you could actually stop someone gaining access to your account by quickly taking hold of your email account.

It's not difficult to give away information, as much of it is pretty trvial. Just be aware folks.

if you want to check if he logged into ur fxhome account u can go to http://fxhome.com/users/user_management/sessions/sessions.php

and it will show u your history for the past 30days and then the ip of were you logged in, so look at the current date then compare the rest to it, if any are different try to remember if at that date and time you were using a different computer than your normal one.

They usually go for the older or more smart-looking members smile

I've gotten a few plugin requests, and even found someone on a forum asking for plugins to be emailed to him, but he posted my (old) email address. I've never found out exactly what it accomplished, how he got my email, why he posted it, and who he was, although it did get me lots of guys emailing me or finding me on MSN to ask me for a magic code. Then again, I managed to convince one or two to buy the program smile

Personally, I use Adium, and AIM. If I need to send images via direct connect, AIM. I don't like iChat's interface. But I htink timmyd was talking about AIM, like the service AIM, not necessarily the program.

WildTangent is a bit of adware that gets installed with the latest version of AIM on the pc.

Though I don't see how this topic should bring about talk of using aim instead of msn, msn is far superior to aim. razz

But then he can register as another user, and we won't know his name anymore....

After second thought - he can do it even now, so I don't think it makes any difference confused Is IP blocking good solution? confused

I think that now after a few warnings, this particular inidividual has ceased his malicious activities.
Though, this won't be the last time something similiar happens. People are always trying to pirate the software here at fxhome one way or another so it's best to remain vigilant and not to let your guard down.

Provided you can make sure no one finds your password, the company will protect all other entries smile

CSB-Digital castle defended! Would-be hackers/pirates are in full retreat, running among the broken carcasses of their fallen comrades, as true Fxhome users pursue them, slaying those who were not quick enough! This is another outstanding victory that will be remembered for centuries! The alliance of CSB-Digital team and fxhome community proved once again that it is force to be reckoned with! Some time must pass before another fool will dare to challenge them!

And as the sounds of battle slowly fade away, a new dawn approaches. Sun of Alam DV3 is just below the horizon. This shall be a glorious day!

WoW, creative. I like that!

Anyway. Yeah, maybe the guy has noticed and has stopped his wicked piracy. But maybe he's so stupid to continue, I just dunno.
And don't care, 'cos I have a virus-free MAC (not provoking).
It's stupid anyway to give away anything that could lead to the discovery of one's password and/or other important info.
If you become a victim to piracy, it's most probably your own stupid fault. Sorry, it's true. (Whether you use Macintosh or Windows, or Linux).
Our minds are also hackable systems, you know, just use a Mind-Firewall, and you're safe.

Yeah, like if your password question is your cat's name, you should keep it secret, which of course does not really make sense, 'cause probably half of your friends know it cool My password questions mostly won't make sense to anybody else, so there is not even a good question they should ask me to get answer biggrin

Hm, are you sure there is no other language like that? In polish for example, that would be almost identical, but with 'a' at the end. I suppose there are other languages who have 'socialdemokrat'. Just a thought though wink

[fiction="Obi Wan Kenobi"]Ah, those treacherous Swedish people. That vile Viking blood is still in them. You can never trust them, they will do anything to take what is not yet theirs...including your account![/fiction]

I think we've all been informed enough of this guy. After all, this guy wants attention, we shouldn't give it to him anymore.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me the guy is sort of trying to reverse engineer your info. For instance he can get your ID/nickname or whatever you want to call it by looking at your profile, then he tries(unsucessfully) to login as you, it then asks him "forgot your password?", he clicks yes so it asks him the secret question. Now he knows the question. He just needs to pry the answer from you by chatting with you about some trivial crap till you tell him what he wants. Therefore it does not really matter what the question is because he knows it, only that you don't give him the answer. I would suggest to everyone make it a question that no one would ever ask you anything about that way if they do you know it's a scam, and by that I mean something that would be very offensive to ask not just something obscure. Some one who is skilled at conversation could work almost anything in to the conversation but if you build in that it is offensive it kind of puts it out of bounds. Just a thought.
Although I guess if the question appears to be incoherent babbling your probably fairly safe as well. Because as you said what would he ask to get the answer.

He joined my MSN contacts list but he never talked to me. I asked him who he was and he told me that he found me on FXhome and that was the end of the conversation.

Wow.. I never looked at this message thread, and one day out of sheer tiredness I do, and BAM! the mystery of this socialdemokrat dude is solved. He never talked to me, but I always wondered who he was.

*IGNORE*

Done.

I never ask someone who they are first, the last time I did that, I ended up talking to some british 14 year old girl, who wanted to know if I had a bird. Maybe 10 minutes into the confusing conversation, I found out she meant girlfriend by bird. LOL! Talk about embarrasing.

UPDATE 21st March - Someone called 'wasyl' is apparently hassling people for plugins. Best policy is to ignore him entirely. Don't forget, giving out plugins or your FXhome details will invalidate your licence and account.

This reminds me.....around the time I first joined FXH, or the forums at least, someone asked me for plugins on AIM, and recently they tried to IM me, so I blocked them. Their screenname was 'asdapartment' I think.

I dunno if that helps, but I just remembered this, so I thought I'd say something.
