Eww, the pink and blue are TOTALLY HIDEOUS, IMHO.

Black is cool though.

The blue is cool! Still doesn't change the fact that I want to trade my DS in for credit towards a PSP though. (That doesnt count as starting a debate does it?)

EDIT: I meant I WANTED to trade my DS for a PSP.

What's the point? You don't buy a system for how it looks, you buy it for what/how it plays.

I think that's less true for handheld consoles than it is for home consoles, as having a gadget that looks cool and is recognised as being desireable amounts to quite alot of sales, for any gadget. Mobiles phones for example.

Yeah, you don't want to be carrying around a brick with a screen in the middle. It has to look cool, or else you'll be laughed out of where ever the hell you're playing it.

You were funny for a bit... then you ruined it. Seriously, if we can't have a civilized conversation about ONE system, then we're just a bunch of ravenous n00bs eating away at sophistication in the universe. There have been like 4 or 5 seperate debates about this, take it there.

May the force be with you.

Yeah but what if that brick were to, say, play MP3's and video and have awesome graphics and a super sharp screen?

They should have made it so you could snap off the covers and put different colors on, that would have made much more sense. But then, Nintendo also thinks online functions in a console aren't important...

Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, but some of the things they do... crazy

Wow, welcome to 2 weeks ago! The real news is the announcement of online predicted at this Thursday's gaming conference and a new Zelda trailer for the next realistic style Zelda. Welcome to 2 weeks ago atom. But yeah, the colors are pretty cool, except the ones targeted towards girls. The black is cool, whte is ok, but I am just fine with my soon-to-be-skinned platinum one. And Marek, that was their view last years E3, they are now making that one of their focuses for the revolution.

I don't think Nintendo should have done dual screens.

Here is how I would have done it.

Panoramic screen. Folds up, DS style, except the ENTIRE TOP PANEL is a screen. It is a touch screen too. How l33t is that.

Built in WiFi.

Runs on a little OS type thingy that is stored in a hard disc. Coded for small memory take-upping. Comes with a small 8 meg built in storage for game saves.

Games are discs. Format Nintendo-devved, but the format is publicly released, spawning a movement of freeware and shareware game dev by unknown publishers, furthering popularity. Also allows for PC companies to develop 3rd party burners.

A special Nintendo Media Network is established to have legal music and movie downloading. Media can be stored on a NDD (Nintendo Data Disc) or on a Compact Flash card. I choose Compact Flash because of its affordability, availability, and industry-wide acceptance.

The OS is opened for developers to create applications. Adobe releases Adobe Reader Mini. AIM, MSN, and Yahoo create versions of their software for the system.

Graphically, the system can render 1/4 the 3D content of the original Halo in 3 hours. Capable of XBox quality graphics. Uses a specially designed & created Intel Virtuo processor. Graphics hardware by Nintendo labs.

Also at the top is a special connection that allows for XMods to be added. XMods are added by sticking the little card attachment into the top. Some examples might be a Digital Camera, a Mouse, a keyboard, etc. Basically allowing for the expansion of the system.

I call my system the Nintendo Über. Available in 9 colors. Coming to your local Wal*Mart this July. Preorder at your local convenience store. Why there? It's convenient.

*pzgamer ends his insane fantasy*

Wow, you obviously haven't played hinters. If I had to have my hand covering the screen I had to look at, ti would suck. Dual screens is great for FPS, and anything with maps and multiplayer. Imagine RPGS, selecting your items on the bottom screen. It already has built in wifi. Storage sucks, having your save states on the cartridge is much better. But 2 screens is the best idea ever, the touch screen can be used as an action screen, touch adventure screen, map, joy stick, even a "mouse" like thing for a "keyboard mouse" setup for a DS game. 2 screens is possibly the best thing evar! twisted

It is innovative, I will give Nintendo that. However, if dual screens are so good, then why haven't any PC gaming companies thought about this before?

PCs have had the capabilites for dual monitors for a long time. If this dual screen concept was so good, then why didn't anyone catch onto this before and create games compatible with dual screens?

It just seems to me that one BIGGER screen is better than too SMALLER screens.

Let us look at the statistcs:
DS: 2 screens at 256x192 pixels a piece. Overall pixels: 512x384 or 82944px
PSP: 480x272 or 130560px

I'd just rather take the bigger screen than 2 smaller screens, one playable.

Pc companies haven't done it because they don't design their Palm OS's for, erm, GAMING. My point is, the Dual screens are really great for that purpose, which is what it is built for. Why have it foldable and small and only use one screen. To get it good it would have to be pretty big and less good for gaming.

Yeah, this is the stupidest topic in the world. Seriously, it is weeks old, most people here are either only getting PSP, or have their DS already, and the biggest news for Nintendo in a LONG time is going to be announced on Thursday, and you are posting about colors. Wow.

OK, well, I'm a bit late on the post-up, but here it goes:

Serpent: Dude, if you think it's stupid.......then..........umm.........don't post in it.

pzgamer: If you'll review the previous threads on the DS, you'll see that the PSP/DS debate has already come and ended. Perhaps you should post on one of those other threads.

Aculag: If people didn't buy systems on how they look, then apple wouldn't be in business. smile

(Just kidding, I want one sooooo bad)

Personally, I think all of the colored systems look, to quote Simon, "absolutely dreadful". I think the physical color lacks in intensity, and is very bland. It needs more contrast, like two-tone on something.

you guys are totally missing the point. The colors are for people who are buying one now, and they now have the option of picking a color that suits their "look". It really doesn't matter, but its a cool little perk to possibly help sway customers. Nothing more, nothing less. You're not supposed to trade in your silver DS's for new ones. PSP will probably come out with color variations sometime, its just something people want on portable devices... iPod mini anyone? I still don't see why this is such a big deal as it needs a whole thread, but whatever.

If I may just make a point as this has started to bug me:
Every time any subject comes up to do with 2 (or more) competative products, most recently PSP and DS, someone always fells the need to jump in and attempt to referee the forums by saying something like "Awwww don't turn this into a debate there just the same blah blah blah". Number one, forums are designed in part to debate, and to share views and opinions so what's wrong with comparing two rival products aimed at the same market with the same purpose and pointing out the pros and cons of each?

Number two, the people who usually give the "No debates" speech are usually if not always not in a position to decide what exists on the forums, leave the moderating to the moderators and post something useful.

Number 3, there is a difference between sensible debate and childish arguments. Anyone who gets offended by someone in another country telling them the console they have is, in their opinion, rubbish then they probably shouldn't be introduced to "real life" any time soon and the same goes for those posting "OMG DS SUXX!!! AND SO DO YOU" type comments . Basically there is nothing wrong with debating a subject if done in the right way.

Finally, it's not realistic to assume that each thread where two things are compared will turn into an argument so again don't try and moderate the forums by saying "Oh these always turn into an argument so don't even post it, debates are bad make me a superuser"

Next time a topic comes up and there is a chance of a big scary discussion arising then why don't we let it run it''s course and leave the mods to lock it if it gets out of hand.

I should make it clear that I'm not being hypocritical by trying to moderate the forums I'm just saying that it irritates me and making a suggestion.

Basically thats all I've seen regarding this topic, which is mindless jabbering and personal insults. so why should I expect any different? I posted that first post to try to deter the stupid "OMG DS SUCKORSZZ" people.

Not to mention this is a thread about the DS's new colors... what does that really have to do with PSP? Maybe we should make an official DS vs PSP thread, so people can duke it out and stuff. lol

sorry if I sound like a mod, but my comment was mostly meant to be synical, not to act like a mod.

I don't care to much about ds anymore, off course, if I did win one, I whould keep it. But my parents don't let me buy it (cause I have too much consoles) and I don't think it's so fun to play with.

Ps. This is just IMO!

I agree that there are a lot of mindless comments when it comes to this sort of thing but there are still some good points. The reason PSP is brought up in the DS topics and DS in PSP topics is because whatever one does will ultimately be compared with the other as they are going to be in direct competition with each other and so comparisons will be drawn (just look at reviews for them). Also posting a new topic every time something else happens with it is a tad excessive IMO "Wow a new game!" "Wow a new colour!" "Wow mine now has new batteries!"

I agree that one topic for both (if kept civilised) would be much better and any new developments could be posted there.

It is old and not very significant news on the dawn of tomorrow's great day: GDC (Pre E3 announcements, and the RotS trailer.)

I bet there won't be any differently colored versions of the PSP. Not saying which one's better either way, but I think Sony probably realizes that they can sell their product well without giving it purdy colors.

Atom said something about it is a bad idea for me to edit media for PSP, and if this were tue, I might post things like <insert what I said above here.> Never mind, just a little joke. No need to read through it thuroughly and ask what I meant. Just ignore it if you don't get it... You would have to look at how the site posts media and the way it is formatted.

Anyways, DS is going online later this year, it has been announced with Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and much much more, like Pictochat, Netroid Hunters, etc.
