I have relatives I want to show my movies that live across the country (US). I was considering making a website my friend told me it was very expensive. He asked another friend who does websites for companies and she said that for a 200MB website, it costs about $100 per month. I really don't think that websites are that expensive and I am assuming that maybe is the rate for a business.
Can you recommend any great websites that offer a lot for a cheap price? Thanks.

I pay nothing a month for 200mb space and 2gb monthly bandwidth, and around $8 a year for a domain name.

www.staghosting.com

But I wouldn't really recommend this for movie hosting, though it works just fine for a cheap portfolio site I have up.

I was thinking of hosting and offering accounts with unlimited space and unlimited bandwith, along with the usual offerings of php etc etc for around $8

Still thinking about it but just wondered how many people would be interested as I'd need to be able to cover the costs once started...

I pay 50 euro per year. That is including a domain name, 100MB webspace and 10GB traffic per month. The provider is on a 100Mbit link with internet.

If i need more space or bandwith it is easy to upgrade (just pay the difference for the next package which has the options you want. 200MB/10GB 65 euro, 300 MB/20GB 75 euro)

I haven't had any problems with them yet, webpage is always reachable, etc. Good service. I really recommend them. (They are based in the Netherlands and Belgium)

I would love to join your site if you started it.

Is there a FAQ or guide as to how to go through the process of making a website? Like what is the difference between space and bandwidth? Which is more important?

Depends on what u need. Lets say that you have a movie on 50MB. And if I download it 1 time, you have used 50MB of your bandwidth that month. When you reach the limit of your bandwidht, we cant download anymore until next month. That's what bandwidht is to:)

We are just about to register with godaddy.com, do you think that that will do a good job for hosting videos?

ARGH! not godaddy!

I've had endless problems with their ridiculous systems. They charge, overcharge, recharge, get your order completely wrong, take months to change domain details and seem to have completely ignored my request to transfer the domain away from them.

Their web system also bombards you with adverts to do this, that and the other to your account, or your hosting plans etc.

imho, godaddy are the devil's own turd.

You don't have to buy your hosting from the same place you buy your domains, you realise?

I use Host-plus, who give me a domain name plus 'unlimited' storage & about 5gb monthly bandwidth for £30 a year, a bargain in my opinion.

I pay 7$ a year for my website, i bought a domain and host the site off my OWN home computer, so bandwidth is unlimited, and being as it doesnt have thousands of visitors on it at once it doesnt have a long load time, and the space i can use is 250GB yes i said Gigabyte and more if i get a bigger harddrive, However hosting a site off your home/work computer does require the computer to be on 24/7 for the website to be accessible, and obviously a cable internet connection or something else with good speed that is always on. DOWNSIDE: you must have some knowledge of computer programming and html codes

You pay at http://hostony.com and getyour domain... Mine is http://cpostudios.com for example. It is really easy and you only do it at one place. Type in personal info, then credit card, then you domain and some other info; then you are set. Hostony = God.

He is with hostony. He must be having a bad expierience with them. I would call the company and explain your situation and say you will stop paying if it coninues a day later. I have not yet had any trouble. Good luck dude, but I still reccomend hostony to everyone.
