I had an idea to work on remaking video games into films. You know like turning metal gear solid into a short film. things like that. However i hit a block, all the good games are to futuristic to do it without using a LOT of 3d work. Are there any other games that you guys can think of? I was also thinking that if there were enough video games to film we could turn it into a contest! what do ya think. If you dont wan to its ok but still give me ideas.

I belive it would be cool!

You have games like Ghost recon 2, Star Wars games(like KoTOR 2, good story!), Splinter cell and so on... I would be happy to join a contes, but I hope my friend want too=)

Maybe... I think the LoTR games were pretty bad actually. Fun the first time, but boring the second time I played it...

wow! cool ideas! Yeah i was thinking of doing something like ghost recon or metal gear solid. Although i hadn't thought of LOTR yet. You could do some really cool chromy stuff when doing the LOTR. I thought the games were great! For PC at least... well anyway.... well thats my 2 cents worth!

I think Mel was possibly the only one who understood that oh so clever little joke.

There was a small production a little while back and I think they must've been working off the video game of Lord of the Rings (kinda beat everyone here to it).
It can't have been on a wide "release" so it's understandable if you didn't get the joke. I think there are a few places you can get it on DVD. Here's a link to their site: Click Me

I say again: Urgh disgust

Thing is, sell one of the better plotlines to Peter Jackson and I reckon he could make a pretty epic and amazing film wink

Silent Hill & Max Payne are both good games to make into movies, but they already are being made. Silent Hill is being written by Roger Avary, so should rock. When the movie comes out I'm sure they'll make a movie game tie-in, then maybe someone'll maybe make a movie of that

Max Payne's already pretty movie-like in itself and it could just end up as a generic action movie (the reason it's not just a generic shoot-em-up is because of the style). The problem with movies made from games is...well...http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111301/

It's already been filmed, it's now in Post-Production. smile

The Rock's role isn't that big though. Shame, he is actually an 'alrite' actor - has a lot of screen presence.

I can't really think of any games I'd be happy to get moviefied becuase often games are weak in story and propped up by fun, good gameplay (take away the game aspect and it's just a crappy movie) or it just wouldn't translate well (MGS is essentially a lot of sneaking around by yourself - the story is good and it plays well but would you really want to watch it?) or sometimes the game is just at risk of being ruined, it would be terrible to see a cack handed attempt at HL2 as the game is so good (I used to like playing Street Fighter)

Max Payne would be ok IMO...I really enjoy the weird storylines & if they had the same scriptwriter, writing with the same OTT tongue in cheek humour. That's what I liked about the games, not simply the shootouts & the bullet time.

Doom - Funny, I did some storyboards for my take on it about 7 years ago...

HL would be good, but you have to wonder whether they could be faithful to the game without it being too predictable for all the fans of the game...

My secret project - More details when I have the script finalised...

There are so many oldies crying out for the movie treatment:

Should be doable with minimum CG:
West Bank
Hacker
Saboteur
Skool Daze
Tir Na Nog
Green Beret
Way of the Exploding Fist
Hunter

Would need some CG:
Ghosts and Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts
Chaos
Adventure
Horace goes Skiing
Spy Hunter
Leisure Suit Larry

Would need extensive CG:
Exile
Quazatron/Paradroid
Elite
Jetpac
Millennium 2.2
Laser Squad
3D Ant Attack
Speedball 2
The immortal Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy

Of course, some of these have similar plots to existing films, but who would be expecting a movie version of Horace and the Spiders?!?!

When i was 12, I started a Zelda movie, and I laughed out loud when I saw the footage. It was absolutely hilarious. It was ambitious back then though, we made the wooden Deku sheaild, bought 2 ocarinas made to replicate the game ones. So, I say, so more people participate, we film footage for a fake trailer, and if we want to we can turn that around into a project. If this is a case, I will do a Zelda trailer, since I have a bunch of the props already, collecting dust. If not, I am making it anyways. smile

man that would be cool! we could all work on one game trailer and then put it together to see if anyones interested in actually making a short film! GREAT IDEA SERPENT hugegrin I also think that as long as we dont make money from our films that we wouldnt be breaking any copyright laws. THX AGAIN

In the summer I might try and film a few spoofs of some classic games.
Thinking of doing a live action Duck Hunt, or Mario Bros (but that would require a lot of tracking I'm sure.....)

or not.

These aren't strictly movies or trailers, but they are funny videos about what happens when games mix with real life - includes Tetris + MGS (hilarious):

www.mega64.com

There are also some links to some Splinter Cell ones...speaking of which, Splinter Cell could make a pretty good movie, and most of it is in the dark, so you wouldn't need too many props.
