As some of you know, I have been working on a script for our next movie "Silent Hill".
This movie is based on a video game, "Silent Hill 2", which is out for Xbox and PS2. I have just finished the first draft of the entire script, which is 75 pages long!
Anyways, I was wondering if some members of the alamdv community would like to give me some feedback on the script.
Keep in mind, though, that if you read the script, the plot of our movie will not be a surprise to you.
you can find it here:http://homepage.mac.com/niko55/FileSharing2.html
It is titled "Silent Hill finished"
(The shakespeare thing above it is a radio commercial I had to make for school. I got an A+ on it.
whether you want to give comments, constructive criticism, compliments, or think it sucks, I would like to know.
I want to refine the script as much as I can.
If you want to say something, but don't want to post it in the forums, you can either send me a private message, or e-mail me at email@example.com
P.S. I'll also put Gryphon Morph up on that page in a day or two, but I'll let people know in another thread.

hey v6proz, to answer your questions in your other post...
We'll start filming when all the snow goes away...
Hopefully, it won't take two years...or one. We will hopefully finish filming after a couple of months.
I'm confident that we can find or create the enviroments in my town...
If any of you can read through the whole script, I'd be very gratefull. I know it's a little long, but I need to know if the ending is any good, and if it makes sense. If you lose interest after the first couple of pages, please also let me know.

This is off the topic, but...
hey, the company that made Gryphon Morph went out of business.
So it isn't illegal.
Yo ho ho!

I'm trying to download the script right now, and look foreward to reading it, but I have a question.
If you're this proud of your script, and are going to put so much into making it, why not change enough so as to make it totally original? Particularly since just in the last week or so it was announced that New Line is doing a Silent Hill film?
I ask because I had a bad experience in the past adapting a comic screenplay for a particular company, but I did it on spec with no contract. I was really happy with the script, but they passed, and now I can't do a thing with it.

I wouldn't consider this a totally unoriginal script, or movie. The plot might be the same as in the game, but the dialogue, as well as some of the sequence of events are slightly changed. I was actually going for a close representation of the game. My problem with movies based on videogames is that they'll take the name, but the plot will be totally different than the game they're based on. I didn't want to do that.
This is the whole reason that I want people to read it. If it's not good enough to be made into a movie, then please tell me, as I wouldn't want to waste my time. Just keep in mind that I'm going for a good movie that accurately portrays the game, instead of a totally original one.

That's kinda my point. If you have characters, dialog, and situations similar, but different from the game, why limit the possibilities of your film by useing a name you have no legal ownership of?

if it is based on the game, why not name it after the game? do you mean that we should call it something like "Quiet mounds of earth"?
Oh, and since we don't plan on using this for profit, we don't need to worry about any legal mumbo-jumbo.
The whole idea was to try and capture the mood of the game and put it into a movie.
does your name happen to be Vince?

Nope, no Vince here.

I think that the person above, who is hiding behind ‘anonymous’, should stop being such a coward!
Hiding behind anonymity just because one has something challenging to say is unforgivable.
Shame, sir. Shame.

thank you Mr. 2nd anonymous person...
But the real thing is, I neeed some input on this script! what should we keep? what should we change? How is the story?
Is it even holding your interest enough to get past the first page?

Yeah it does. I read it straight through from start to finish. first impression it seemed to be pretty good. Extremely disturbed, though. I will look at it again, though, and give you some more useful feedback.

OK, first off, that intro is just plain LONG! That is a serious amount of narration. Are you planning on that being voice over, or will it be a scrolling text on the screen? Either way, try to cut some of it out.
Now I'm sure you have already trimmed it as much as you thought humanly possible, but please trim it some more. An audience wants to learn these things for themselves, not be told about them, so any pieces of the intro that you can work into the actual movie later on, do it. It is harder for you, but viewers will appreciate it. Show them, don't tell them.
BTW, I have never even heard of this game, so any input I give you here is from a film-making standpoint, and not related to the game at all. Just so you know.

thanks Axeman. That's just the kind of stuff I want to know. It's especially good that you haven't played the game, that way I can see how people will react when seeing this for the first time.

Yep, just give me time to look at the script a little more.
BTW, another way you could improve the intro possibly is by breaking it up into pieces, and putting something else (something active) in between.

I mean, it's not THAT bad of an idea

But if the film is similar to Silent Hill then people who know Silent Hill will say "You've ripped that off".... A never ending discussion I feel...
