Discuss. smile Started today, and if you want more info check out these sites:

http://ign.com
http://advancedmn.com (Best site ever wink)
http://gamespot.com

This one is going to be great, the Microsoft and Sony Press conferences are tonight, the Nintendo Press conference is tomorrow. You can get them live from http://gamespot.com

Highlights of the show from my point of view:

X-Box 360
Nintendo Revolution
PS3
Future of Handhelds (PSP, DS plans, Next GameBoy possibly?)
Zelda smile
GameCube's and PS2's last games before next-gen

If you are speaking literally, Zelda's title really sucks at the moment, and I think it will be the final one. Send complaint to Nintendo PLEASE, just go to http://nintendo.com The new title is The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess. sad

Is that the official name for the new Zelda? I quite liked the 'Reigns of Sorrow' rumor. I guess we'll find out tomorrow eh?

I'll be watching all three press conferences most likely. This could be the biggest E3 of all time. I'm already sold on the XBox 360, and I'll almost definately buy Nintendo's new system, simply for future Zelda games smile

Superb article.

Boothbabes are great. Especially Page 3 models from the Sun, I got chatting to a few of them last year and found out they get paid thirty quid an hour to stand their looking pretty - they know voyeurism is why they are chosen and their large 'boobs'. Still, it was refreshing talking to them and realising they were completely clued up...

Sad that so many fat people kept asking for a photo with them.

PS3 shots available. The system looks coo but some pointless jacks: 3 Ethernet ports? Weird. Controller looks unnecessarily long. :-\ http://psp.advancedmn.com/media.php?gameid=99

Up to 7 Controllers in the PS3 via Bluetooth! Blu-ray discs are of course a must. The graphics must also be quite intense, considering the 1080p resolution.

I must love PS3, when is it released?

IGN has images of the Revolution.

http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/615/615030/imgs_1.html

This should be a good day. I hope for some game footage from Nintendo, as well as the unveiling. This system looks nothing like anything they've ever done before. Looks like a sleek, small version of the PS2.

If Sony releases PS3 this year, and if the graphics look anywhere near as good as the videos and screenshots are suggesting, they have a buyer. I love my Xbox and play it way more than my PS2, but the 360 has nothing on the PS3 right now. (EDIT: Except maybe Gears Of War.)

The Revolution looks slick.

Definetely up there with the PS3.
Microsoft have yet again failed on the design side.
Me thinks I might be getting myself a PS3 and Revolution.

Roll on the next GBA.

I think Revolution LOOKS the coolest, followed by PS3, then in last XBox. Now we just have to see how they play.

Sony are aiming for a 2006 christmas release, I think.

The PS3's design is the inverse of the Xbox360's, it is bulged at the centre, whearas Xbox360 is slightly slimmer at the centre. As much as the PS3 looks good, it looks a little...fat. Also bear in mind that you will be able to customize the Xbox 360 to your taste.
Revolution looks so cool, but, being called the 'revolution', Nintendo must have a REALLY big idea for it, and it's not graphics, because it runs on basically the same setup as the Xbox 360. I'd be intereseted as to what you guys think it might be.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

New Zelda trailer. Oh my God. Nice footage. The press conference was OK, but not the best. The show off of that Gameboy thing was cool and the fact that Revolution can download ANY game for free from N64, SNES, and NES.

Playstation 3 looks great, it almost makes me want to go back to playing console games. So if it's not too expensive (which it probably will be) I'll buy one.

And btw, I'm definatly getting the Playstation 3 fridge.

If that's the case, which I highly doubt, they will sell close to zero consoles. I'd say the US is their biggest market, and that's about 8000 dollars. No, I'd say it'll be less than $500, just because they wouldn't charge several thousand dollars for a console.

I am looking forward to Mario Kart, Zelda, Animal Crossing DS, Battalion Wars, and uhh, Super Mario Striker looks fun. Oh, and Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid Prime Hunters both look sexy. MP3 trailer is out there, I am on a crap-top, so I can't spend time looking for you guys. smile

Waser, the Revolution pics and the one they had at the press conference we are all just the prototype.

AcjPictures: The firdge thing was making fun of the fact that it looks like a refridgerator. All they have to do now to make fun of the other two is add a PS-2 logo to the Revolution and uhh, nothing to X-Box, it speaks for itself. (old mid-90's computer.) That's just me.

Er-No, I will own your soul at Mario Kart. smile

Has anyone seen the 640X480 ingame footage of killzone? Its simply mindblowing. it doesnt even seem possible how good that looks. And that F1 Racing game? near flawless photo realistic. They say that GTA4 is going to be a launch title, but with these insane graphics, how are they going to escape an adults only rating? i mean, gta has always been brutal, but the graphics have also always been unrealistic and cartoony.

Wow that is retarded. I have a hard enough time holding my SP in my hand. I had to buy hand grips that go on the SP just to make it more comfortable. I wonder how you are supposed to play this comfortably? What about the screen? Sure they say it is supposed to be higher quality but what good is that if the screen is so small that you can't see it?

I thought it was a joke but I see that it is not. What is up with Nintendo designing their handhelds to look like some crap from 1983?

Videogames and small does not go together. Cell phones yes. Gameboy no. I wish they would come out with a handheld just like the Atari Lynx I (Not the smaller second addition). That was great.

I think the Nintendo Revolution is the best looking new console. It looks so pro. I wonder how it's game will be.
I hope they will make a real cool platform game, something the old nintendo consoles had.
And I hope for a Super Smah, mabye online.

I also like the xbox 360.
The main reason I'll buy this is cause Rare is working for microsoft.
Perfect Dark Zero looks sweeeet.

Ps3... I've never really liked any of the playstation consoles. It's just not as fun as nintendo. Mabye I'm childish, cause I like platform games, with mario and so on, but I don't care. Games are about having a good time IMO.

Hehe, the gameboy micro looks sweet.

I think the next years in video game world will be awesome!

Right, I've just picked up some rumours from some birdies I know at Nintendo.

Apparently Nintendo haven't finished unveiling stuff to the public.. tommorrow (19th) they will unleash videos and examples of the Revolution's power. I've been informed by someone in the industry its rumoured the Revolution 'is' more powerful than the Xbox360.

Also, the actual successor to the GameBoy could be unveiled. Although I doubt this more than the previous rumour.

I do hope the Revolution is unveiled to be more powerful than the Xbox360 - as this would help Nintendo hugely in marketing the console.

I guess we'll hear the final on this tommorrow. I'll post as soon as I know more.

@ Aculag, sorry if I didn't make it clear, the PS3's technology is currently worth £4000, but Sony need to wait for the cost of it to go down substantially before releasing it, that is why they are aiming for a 2006 christmas release, so that the price tag will be reasonable (definitely below £400).

The GBMicro looks like the bottom half of a DS minus two buttons. Hmm.

Also, Mario Kart DS wil be amazing, that is at the top of my list, can't wait! biggrin

Please people.

I'm not about to get into another one of these debates, but the Sony's hype machine is obviously working on you all.

Let me just say one time:

THAT IS NOT IN-GAME FOOTAGE FOR KILLZONE. IT IS PRERENDERED CG.

If it was in game footage, you would see Sony rep's cramming it down our throats and yelling it into the microphone. Not once have they said that it is in-game, and by the looks of it, I don't know how any of you actually thought it was.

The developers themselves have said so, that it is just "What they'd like to be able to do".

Stop saying it's in game, it's not even close.

It's sad that Sony can show off these pre-rendered CG concept videos and fool everyone into believing its in-game. Only after Sony sells 100 million units do people realize it was just part of their bogus hype-machine.

Have you seen one playable game from PS3 this year, or even official in-game footage? No, you haven't. That is because their system has a long ways to go. XBox360 is launching at least 6 months before PS3 and they barely have alpha kits running in time for this year's E3.

Killzone is NOT in-game, it's not even running on the PS3. It's prerendered. Get it through your heads.

Another argument:

According to the Sony presentation, the dev kit was shipped to developers only 2 months ago. There is no way they could have developed any, good looking, Demos, or /Real Time/In Game clips. Take a look at what they did with the Unreal Engine in 2 months; a 5 second reel. Then they play a 15 second clip of KZ2. How? I think the unreal engine demo was for real. The KZ2 was a pre-rendered. I think they asked the CG artist to add little annoyances so that there will be a debate. That is marketing---surprised? Debate means interest, and interest translates into sales. That is why Sony will not comment on what it is, or how it was created. They want debate in the air.

I think the M$ showed real graphics and demos made form the Actual DEV kits that were shipped to developers. The DEV kits are said to only have 40%-60% of the power of the actual hardware. M$ did the same with x-box. Remember the “**** throwing” that ensued after the showing of Halo. M$ wants developers working on level development, game play, and AI. M$ knows that polishing of the graphics can be achieved quickly with the new hardware running at 100%. Developers know that as well. That is why the industry, and many new 3rd party developers, are impressed with M$ and their showing. They have shown real, playable, interactive games with active AI and good graphical presence. The nail for me is that there will be peeps playing the 360 over the next few days.

No one will be playing a PS3. On the bright side for PS/Sony Fanboys; you can always hit the Vaseline while watching floating ducks and a 15 second clip of KZ2----LMAO……

Personally, I'm routing for XBox 360, but there IS some in-game PS3 stuff, and it looks pretty photo-realistic, but you need to register to get the bigger quicktime version.

Gamespress websites have removed speed information about the Revolution. Expect an announced from Nintendo tommorrow.

Again, the rumour is its more powerful than the XBox360.

Hey....................whoa.

Some really strange designs there. I guess the elegantly-chic-looking-crap-style is in.

Does anybdy else think that the Revolution and PS3 look like they should switch? Revolution is so PS2-esque, and PS3 has that silvering-chic but kid-friendly look to it.

Maybe it's just me.

Kiddish is such an unfitting word for any console/system unless it has a Tank Truck taped to the back. IMO it is the worst adjective for a device. :-\ Anywho, E3 is looking cool and I am very excited by er-no's statement. Also, the DS onlinve thing is sounding great. But, I have a question, why is there barely any PSP news. It seems like Sony is ignoring it. I wanted to see more games. But Lemmings is coming to it, that might sell me one. (I am not being sarcastic.) Tons of new game footage at IGN and I assure there will be some cool new footage at advancedmn.com. This E3 looks tasty. I hope I get some great free thingies from E3.

Bring it.

Also, Nintendo has announced DSpeak, a free phonelike service that may incorporate with some of the games, similar to the whole X-Box live gig.

Really? A console can't be kiddish?

I dont see any

only

GAME

GameBOY! BOY! KID!

Oh, asnd DS online is SOUNDING cool? Yeah it SOUNDED cool 6 months ago when Mr. BaitnSwitch sold me MarioDS and then trickled out a bunch of side scrolling crap-shack games. Seriously. I feel cheated.

PictoChat? Are you kidding me? It's like standing beside eachother talking on walkie-talkies when one isnt even turned on.

I see the nerds in my class go and are like: "Okay turn your DS on! I wanna talk to you!"

and the other is like "Oh this is so sweet, we're freakin' talking to eachother"

And I get up from the table, and they're left there talking to their crotches looking down inside their desks and typing when they're 2 feet away from eachother.

On the other hand, I leave the nerds, and talk to my friends WHILE I watch Spiderman 2.

Rip-off, I think not.

Oh, and don't forget, I HAVE A DS. There's no need for a sales pitch on how great it is after this post.

And PSP- You wanna see more games?!?!? It;s got like 20 great titles and has been out less than two months, as well as several great, B-movies. As for the DS, Yoshi, Wario, MArio, Yipee!

When do I get non-little-kid-style games. I'm just feeling really cheated.

All talk and no show make atom mad.

Half Life 2 looks amazing as it is, and the HDRI demo they showed a while ago for The Lost Coast looks incredibly amazing, so I don't see why a console with as much power as the PS3 has couldn't produce visuals that are that good. At least very close. Time will tell, I suppose, but I reckon it to be so.

I totally agree Aculag. We already have pc games that are close to that, and with as monster a machine as a ps3, they should be able to produce amazing visuals.

Exactly. I'm not saying these graphics aren't possible, because these machines are so powerful I would think that something close to this spectrum should be do-able.

I'm only saying that this particular trailer was in no way in-game. Look at the camera movements, the gun movement, the heavily scripted everything. There was only about one character in that entire video that looked like you could actually shoot and wasn't completely pre-scripted.

I don't think you will ever see a game play like that. It's too movie like in movement, too uncontrollable. Graphics we'll come close or surpass this generation, but you won't play anything like that for a much longer time to come.

I am dying to find out what Nintendo have lined up as their next-gen controller that will change the way we play games, yet will still play all other nintendo games ever made.

I'd like XBox to do really well, but PS3 has such huge processing power, whenever a new rendering technique is developed or the physics are enhanced, the PS3 will be able to do this no problem, but the XBox and Revolution would struggle without hardware support.

Let me just say one time:

THAT IS NOT IN-GAME FOOTAGE FOR KILLZONE. IT IS PRERENDERED CG.
according to a G4tv interview Sony VP Jack Tretton the Killzone video shown at the press conference was In-Game footage

but the link of the video interview( i think its an video interview) is down at the moment. so you guys can check back later on their site at www.g4tv.com smile

and by the way there is a 30minutes of gameplay from the new zelda game twilight princess at fileplanet: http://media.cube.gamespy.com/media/572/572738/vids_1.html
just saw them all. its awesome! biggrin
i also read some news from zelda-infinite.com that nintendo confirmed that the timeline is based after ocarina of time and not windwaker!
and the game will have a worldwide release. so everybody can play it at the same time biggrin

Considering that was the prototype for the system, they aren't entitled to show the controller.

A sony rep said the game was real-time. The developers of the game said it wasn't.

One of the developer's had this to say:

Jan-Bart: It's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/616/616591p1.html

Here is IGN's take:

And the damn controversy continues. Notice how no one ever comes out and says, "Dude, that's me playing." You know, we don't even get a simple, "The footage was generated using the in-game engine and a lot of cool scripting." We always just have to settle with, "Hey, look at out Killzone! It's what we intend Killzone to be." What does that even mean anyway?

So now we come to it... What do IGN editors think. Is the Killzone video real? Will the game look like that?

Jeremy Dunham - IGNPS2
"I don't think so. I think the only way the game will look like that is if they spent several more years in development and knew how to exploit the PlayStation 3 to its fullest. I have no doubt that they can produce cutscenes that good, but then again, the cutscene gave that away!"

Ed Lewis - IGNPS2
"We're probably going to see similar type graphics...hopefully. Because that's what they're aiming for, but...oh man. Hopefully. I mean, right now it's just a concept video. What will it be? I don't know. It's way too early to tell."

Ivan Sulic - IGNPS2
"Hell no."

Juan Castro - IGNCube
"Yes. It will. On PS4... 2009. Or maybe 2015."

David Clayman - IGNXbox
"No. No. No. If that's the style of the game, it will look like that, but not at that level of quality. That had separate animations for every single movement. That is not a game. It was total CG. Those little things giveaway stuff like that real well."

Doug Perry - IGNXbox
"It doesn't look real to me, but it's what I want the game to look like and I hope. But I don't think the developer is capable of that, especially based on the first game."

Stephen Butts - IGNPC
"No. The video is real in the sense that it exists in this time continuum, but no, it does not reflect what the game will look like."

Dan Adams - IGNPC
"No."

About the prerendered scene I am guessing that it should be able to produce graphics like that in regular play. I was reading that the PS3 is 35 times stronger than a PS2. I also read that the PS3 graphics can do more than any PC can do at this moment.

The real thing I am waiting for though is to see if there is a new gameboy coming out and I am not talking about the micro one. I want something with a clam shell (so that I won't ruin the screen) and can compare to a PSP. The DS is a crappy system. I want a GBA2!

Ok, let me start this comment with this. Stop talking like a gangsta. And Rev images don't say: "I am more powerful than PS3 and XB 360." Next time read the thread, I think everyone has seen those week old pics.

Anyways, back to the sane part of the convo. Sidewinder: The 2-3X as powerful as GCN is the spec for the prototype, and most systems improve based on their compeition over time.

PS3 has a 25-core processor, which basically means that it effectively has 25 3ghz processors running in parallel. I.E. - Very Very Fast. I think that the video card is overpowered as well.

An interesting article that I just read ... 360 has a slight edge with the graphics chip but PS3 edges the 360 with its processor speed ... but it's doubtful that any game developers will develop games to specifically take full advantage of Sony's processor speed so in the end the two systems pretty much balance out in that arena. What I think will be interesting is what is developed for Sony's DH blue-ray discs....

Ok, Nintendo is going to be showing off at PAX 2005. Not sure what that is, some electronic thing, it is speculated that they will have playable Zelda, DS stuff, GB Micro, and Nintendo Revolution, which Nintendo at E3 said they’d have more for gamers later... Hmmmmm.... It is possible that they will give us some stuff at that time.

I certainly hope you don't believe that.

I'm an Xbox Fanboy, but even I'll admit the PS3 has a slightly faster chip. The problem with their system is, it has extremely huge bottlenecks. What's the point in having such an awesome chip if the rest of the system isn't powerful enough to power it?

I'd say both of these systems will look about the same, with PS3 having an edge in about 2-3 years once things start to drop off. And by edge, I mean soley graphics.

Xbox will reign surpreme smile

Funny how the Xbox 360 is being released this Christmas. But they had such serious problems getting it working or keeping it working at E3. Most of the pods of the 360's were rubbish, with the games being powered by clustered G5's.

I look forward to how the 360 launch pans out. Interesting tactic by Microsoft to scream and run into the next generation. When the Xbox isn't really dead yet.

I think that's the idea. Ride the life of one straight into the other. keep the momentum going, rather than let the system putter out of people's attention.

But honestly, I don't think releasing something this christmas would be too soon. Waiting all the way to the christmas of 2006 for the PS3 is quite a bit of time spent between consoles. That will be 7 years between consoles...And I don't know about you, but 7 year-old hardware for games seems a little too much. 5 years between upgrades, i.e. Xbox, seems just fine.

I just feel - along with several people I've spoken to in the industry. That console gaming is going into the midst of stupidity with upgrades, power and statistics over the original basis of a good games industry - good games. These current consoles, PS2, GC and Xbox still have hardware and techonlogy that can be taken advantage of, but what we have instead is a market filled to the brim with utter crap for games and no innovative or original ideas coming in.

I think it is too early for a new console, it all seems a bit rushed. I'm quite glad Nintendo announced double their yearly profits on last year yesterday though, I've got a small amount of hope the big N will attack back and reclaim some of their former 'home console' market glory.

Still though, I'll be looking to save and get the Ps3 and Revolution.

Crap games? I honestly think there are more good games coming out than ever before, and the quality is higher than ever before. The forgetable games from back in the day have been...forgotten, so the good stuff tends to stand out.

And quite honestly, better hardware makes a helluva difference. We're far from the point where graphics have peaked. Power and statisitics matter when you're introducing a console, because, hey, you're introducing hardware. This E3 was when the consoles were revealed...it's understandable why they took the spotlight. The stuff your talking about-an indstry centered on good games, not hardware-seems just as strong as usual.

I mean, did you see that clip from Kameo on the 360, where they have a thousand guys fighting another thousand guys, with you riding your horse through it? I'm not sure about you, but that looks like fun to me. Or Perfect Dark with 50 or more people online? That's a big jump over Halo's 16. (PC people-stay quiet. smile ).

And nah, there aren't more good games coming out than ever before. Quantity far outweighs quality at the moment in the games industry. (imo) sad

Kameo has always interested me as it's now been in production for several years. I'm actually expecting that to be quite good. As for Perfect Dark, I'm a huge fan of the original, but I've been hearing pretty shoddy things about the sequel - although I think I'll wait for launch to judge it. smile

Shame the UK gaming events have been cancelled. Woulda loved to have seen the consoles close up. biggrin

That's simply not true.

ALL the Xbox's were powered by the dual-G5 alpha kits. All of them. The Xbox shell was just running to show gamers what it would look like. And once again these were running on dual 2.5ghz or so, when the final system will be 3x3.5ghz

They weren't crashing during gameplay. The only times they crashed was when users would try to access the Live menus via the controller and the G5's don't have that information programmed into them. There weren't any real plain hardware failures like you described.

Obviously not, with G5's powering the demo's. And not the Xbox360 - Which kids will believe was the power behind it.
