That's a really astoundingly stupid thing to do. Especially at their ages, you'd think they'd know better. Maybe we should add "avoid blowing yourself up" to the EffectsLab feature list?

Presumably they were desperate to win the Darwin Award this year.

When I read what happened, I thought, kids. Then it said aged 20 and 17... How the heck?? Like Tarn said, you've got to be pretty stupid to try something like that at their age. Fuel inside a glass tube and lighting it?

Now I'm just waiting for the outraged parents to shout out about banning films with lightsabers!

Actually they should have read Tarn's tutorial on igniting your prop lightsabers with gasoline.

In my book, sword fighting with 'glass tubes' already sounds like a pretty bad idea. Even fighting with plastic lightsaber props can result in some nasty or awkward injuries if you're not careful.
But to go and fill these tubes with petrol and then ignite it is all out idiocy and no doubt if they do happen to die it'll be an entry into the Darwin Awards.

This story is definetly a step above when Kid's buy replica swords then someone gets hurt whilst they swing it around.

I don't get it. How does filling a glass tube with gas look like a lightsaber? if anything, fire will just come out the top. Or the tube will explode, but gas isn't incredibly explosive either.

They must have really been trying. I'd like details.

ONE glass tube? ha! I use a broom and a string of 8000 tiny lightbulbs, thereby reducing the damage when the sabers strike each other, but still make an interesting spark. They ARE idiots!

Here's another case of stupidity - this seems to happen quite a lot. Surely tutors know by now that they should warn their students that if they want to film using guns they should get the permission of the police, & have prominent posters in display?
