New versions of the Mac and PC installers are now available that resolve a potential save file problem as well as a few other minor issues. Click here to read the full change log.

All EffectsLab users should head over to the downloads page to make sure they're up-to-date.

If you had problems with the previous version of EffectsLab under Windows then please uninstall EffectsLab and delete the following folders before installing this new version:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\EffectsLab
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\EffectsLab Cache

Please note these folders might be called something different if your OS language is not English and that the "Local Settings" and "Application Data" folders might be hidden by your OS.

Preset library

Next up for EffectsLab is the preset library, which will make the program even easier and faster to use, especially for new users.

More than meets the eye
We've had a couple of comments from new users that EffectsLab 'only has three effects'. Appearances can be deceptive, and they've soon realised that they're actually looking at three powerful engines, capable of creating hundreds of different effects.

This can be a little daunting at first, however, which is where the presets library comes in, providing a selection of styles and setups that can be applied instantly, without needing to know the program inside-out. The system will be just as useful for experts, enabling them to work faster and combine complex effects with ease.

Instant effects
This work-in-progress screenshot shows some of the lightsword presets:

Each provides access to a pre-defined effect that can be applied instantly to your movie, without needing to play around with the settings. Simply select the preset you require, then position it on the canvas - the preset does the rest for you.

You will be able to export and import presets, share them with other users and move them between project files. In a similar manner to the AlamDV2 plugins, we hope that the presets library will continue to expand over time as people create their own custom effects and release them to the community.

More soon!

Cool....I just can't wait for the preset library! biggrin Two questions:

1. What type of original presets will be availible for the particle system? I think it's kinda hard to understand right now, that would be because I havn't got the time to learn it yet.

2. So you will be able to export your own presets from EffectsLab?

Hey Tarn. Maybe it is an idea to rename the engines? Especially the lightsword thingy, it might be an idea to rename it to lighting engine or somthing. Personally, I use it together with the particle system to create a fireball.

Oh, which reminds me, a minor feature request (minor as in: if it is a lot of work, don't bother) It might be nice if it would be possible to link the the different origins of the (blade-)shapes and emitters.

If you read the full topic you would have known the presets are not availible just yet, this is just a preview of what it will look like when it's finished.

Where are all the cool effects on the site? I miss the countless awesome effects you could download to add into your films...

Is it cause they are not yet compatible with the new FXLab?

i'm not sure if you planned this in the future but it would open a new world if as EelcoG said that the engines could be combined.

I'm still experiencing script errors with this latest version sad
This is after I delete the appropriate Local settings files, uninstall the previous version, run reg cleaner to remove all traces of Effects lab from the registry, and install the new version.

My operating system is XP SP2 Home edit'n....and I have the latest drivers.
Any futher suggestions would be appreciated?

I am anxious to join the rest of the world in discovering the wonders of EffectsLab

When is the error? What language are you running in? Does the program create an error report? Need information before we can track this down. If you are free tomorrow you could come on to the chat room and we could try and work out a fix/sollution smile

The error is a "script error" which asks me if I want to continue or not. It only comes up when I start the program for the second time. Deleting the local setting/temp/folders will allow me to start the program once again.

I am running it in english and... I don't know if an error report is created. I will try to make it on the chat line.

Hope this isnt too much to ask for in an upgrade(s), but wouldn't be cool if you can place your arrow cursor over a certain sections(timeline, effects bin, etc), press spacebar(over whatever key/key combo your feel works) and get a full screen view of just that section? Apple has done this with Shake and DVDSP, and it think it would add a lot to the sophistication of EffectsLab as well. Is an optional "Node" view something that would be in a future version of EffectsLab?

Keep up the goodwork FX team!!

SugahSean - yeah, that is a little too much to ask at the moment. Shake is like a 100 times more expensive than EffectsLab / Chromanator!

We'll see what direction we go with this in the future but we have many other things to add at the moment.

Hey Schwar,

have you guys thought about doing say a Pro version. Higher price and incorporating features like that one mentioned above. Just an idea i expect you've thought of it already.

Hey Jotoki - it was an option we were thinking of quite a while ago but at the moment its in the same position as DigiGrade. Making these programs costs so much and we are very low on funds - we have a plan for the release of EffectsLab and Chromanator 2 then we'll see what happens.

If we were to make one you can be sure that buyers of EffectsLab could upgrade for just the difference in cost rather than having to buy all over again.

yeah I have no doubt time are hard right now. Looking forward to the new chromanator whatever it'll be called once it comes out.

Although i havent had much chance to play with Effectslab yet everything i ask about on here especially about the particle engine has been given a yes and this is how you do it answer. I'm learning so much about particles and how they work thanks to effectslab and it's clear very very powerful already, a pro version would have me reaching deeper into my wallet for sure. Slight instabilities aside (though i've not had any problems) this really is the Mutts Nuts bang for buck wise. Superb work.

well there cam be no doubt it's been a long time since the last update and also been very quiet as regards any mention of it. Probably because of the preset work thats supposed to come out with the next release.

Any chance of an update on where things are guys ?

The last update was less than two weeks ago, work is still going as planned as far as I can see. Most bugs are under control or known.

As you don't have the pogram registered, you don't need an update. In the Products section the latest versions of all the programs are available to download or purchase. If you have already purchased the program, please register it for full support.

Also, please don't post the same question into multiple topics, as it makes answering it more confusing and clutters the forums. Out of curiosity, why are you posting your questions into these ancient threads anyway? There are lots of topics about newer versions of the programs.
