yay the demo is out biggrin

EA/Dice has released a 500+ meg demo for Battlefield 2. The demo features three variations of the Gulf of Oman map from Battlefield 2, which is set in a near-future conflict between three clashing powers: The United States, China, and the fictional Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC). The single-player, 16-player, and 32-player versions of the map included in the demo will pit the US against the MEC in time-limit-based combat. (China is not playable in the demo.)

I got a 6600 GT, and it lags sometimes on medium. I should be getting high, i can play on the highest setting on every other game. Did anyone hear if theres anything wrong with nvidia cards with the demo? Hopefully the full game will be better, but im buying either way.

i have 6600gt too and i think there is some problems with the demo. i can play high though but the loading time is kind a long so. but i have some graphicsproblems too i think its the shadows or the shader. do you have problems with it too ?

EDIT: i used the new nvidia update and tyhe shadows and the shader works now in highest performance without lag biggrin

ATI Cards and Battlefield 2 Demo
In testing the demo, EA has encountered some visual issues on certain ATI cards with the previous Catalyst drivers (5.5) and are working with yesterday's 5.6 release to discover if the issue is resolved. If in playing the Battlefield 2 demo you encounter texture corruption of any kind, we recommend rolling back to the Catalyst 5.1 drivers. ATI is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.

That's because your graphics card doesn't take it. On the site it says you need at least a Geforce FX 5700, but it works with my 5200. You must have a Geforce 4, right?

Does online play work for any of you guys? Whenever I try to create an online ID it tells me my namenick (or something like that) is invalid. unsure

If you have a gamespyarcade account try logging in with that, there's still a reasonable chance that your name is taken though.

I'll be playing some later on, anyone that wants to jump in the same room as me and maybe a few others from fxhome can find me in the fxhome chatroom wink

It'll be an over-simplified romp designed for people that can't figure how to get a real computer to work that is of course nothing in comparison to the PC version.
Then again, you're a halo fan so over-simplified should be right up your street!

This demo is so much fun it's untrue, the squad system is unbelievably well thought out. Great stuff biggrin

Well sorry I like Halo!! I enjoy PC games too and at this point I am pretty = in the balance between xbox and PC usage for gaming. Its just I need a wee bit of a PC upgrade. I find much more comfort in laying in my beddy playing Halo 2 on XBL then playing CS:S or BF1942 or a million other (FPS) games on my PC. In my beddy I can lay down but at my PC my ass just gets sore and red.

Ill post a pic when I get a chance wink

I really do want/need to get the demo to work! I just need a new vid card.

I had similiar comfyness issues and then I forked out and bought a wonderful leather chair with arms. Ever since I haven't touched a console, despite them being well in range to play easily from here. smile

If you can't upgrade in time for the release, you'll regret it I'm sure. The game is fantastic mate.

It plays fine on medium settings on my Radeon 9800 pro. So in terms of power it should play on your 6200 considering it's quite a bit more powerful than the 9800. In terms of drivers problems with the 6 series, Nvidia released some special BF2 drivers I believe to solve the problem. So you should be fine.

Damn GeForce 4.... I can play half life 2 perfectly with it, but not bf 2 which is really stupid. You can't compare bf 2 to half life 2, lol.

I doubt that to some great extent. What you mean is that you can play it poorly. Running a game perfectly, as far as I'm aware means at full settings and a decent fps. razz On the Geforce 4's, objects randomly fade in and out at just a short distance away.

Anything less than a 9800pro with BF2 and I'd think you're hitting a trouble area.

Indeed the super real-time shadow and light and blah blah is nonexistent with my FX 5200, so it just looks slightly better than BF:V sad

My FX5200 cries when I play it...

I cry cause I have a lot of money and cannot spend it on a new video card...

I guess I should just be glad I can play it.

Indeed. Just wait for a few more models of the Geforce 7 to come out, and the 6600GT will probably drop in price.

Indeed HL2 is absolutely fantastic when it comes to performance. It's the only game I know that is so good at it. It might be because (as far as I know) they weren't partnered with nVidia or ATI, and thus didn't set the requirements high to make people buy the new expensive cards.

Anyway, this isn't a good time to buy a 6600GT, not when the 7800 just came out. If you can wait a month or two, maybe three, it should go down in price.
