Hi guys...

I'm kinda new to these forums so I'm not sure what has been posted or not. Or if there are any rules to this forum but I like to bring this subject up:

I am as new to Effectslab/Chromanator as I am to these forums. I haven't got neither of the programs but I intend to buy them both. Point is, I downloaded these demo's of both and there are a few things a wanna be sure about.. maybe quiet silly questions in your eyes but their stuck in my mind anyway.

- If I save a movie I take it, it also saves sound?
- Is there any way for me to import MPEG-movies into them?
- Can you also add sound to you movies?
- (Effectlab only) Are there no other 'effect options' apart form lightsaber, muzzle flash and the other exploding thing (keep forgetting the name) cuz there are no others in the demo.

Thnx man.

Just for future reference, it would be best to do a quick look around the forums for topics you are thinking about posting. You should also try using the "search" feature of the forums. You just type in key words, such as your topic, or questions. Some do not take kindly to questions being asked repetitively. There are a few guide lines to follow when making posts. The big ones can be found here. You will pick up on anything that is not in that list rather quickly the more you read other posts.

Let’s get to the questions.

Q: If I save a movie I take it, it also saves sound?

A: As of right now, only EffectsLab Dv can save with sound. You have to make sure that your in and out frames are set to be the same when you render as they are in the original (un-edited) movie clip (as to keep the sound "lined" up with the clip). Chromanator, at this moment, can not render with the sound, but the second version (soon to be in the works) will most likely have this ability.

Q: Is there any way for me to import MPEG-movies into them?

A: As far as I am aware, no. I have only tested with EffectsLab, but there engine is similar in many ways, so I believe that if Chromanator could do this, EffectsLab could as well. (You would most likely have to convert your MPEG-files to avi. or mov.) Some body else most likely knows a few more details about that then I do. There are also topics on where to find converters, and how to convert files just using your NLE (None Linear Editor).

Q: Can you also add sound to you movies?

A: These programs are not compositing programs. You would have to edit your sounds in your NLE (what ever you may use). It is always best to add your effects, then the sounds. You should always try to match your sound to your graphic, not your graphic to your sound.

Q: (Effectlab only) Are there no other 'effect options' apart form lightsaber, muzzle flash and the other exploding thing (keep forgetting the name) cuz there are no others in the demo.

A: The effects, as of now, are "Neon Light", "Muzzle Flash", and the "Particle Engine". So far, the final product has not been released. This means that the FxHome team are still adding features, and working out bugs. A list of what is to come can be found here, along with answers to other questions about the program you may have.

I hope this answers all of your questions, and puts your mind at ease.

Again, welcome to the site.

Thnx Wizard for your time.
But I have a another question according to your answer.
You say FXhome will better the program(s) as they are still working on them. But what If I buy, say, effectslab now? And the up-date will come out later. How am I gonna recieve it? Can I like download it or am I supposed to pay extra money to get it.
If so, I think I can better wait till this up-date is included in the program

Again srry, but I haven't got a clue of how things work around here.
Hope you have time to answer this question.

The current version of EffectsLab is fully stable, it's just lacking some presets and the stock footage library I think. It's called a preview version, but buying it means you don't pay for the final version. You would receive the final version as you do the preview version, via download from this site.

Mellifluous is 100 percent correct here. If you purchase this version of the program you will receive all the updates and advancements entirely free.

This doesn't apply for Chromanator because the final version has been out for quite some time now, and the next version will be a completely different program all together, there for, you have to purchase it. However, if any "bug" fixes come out for this version of Chromanator after you buy it, you will be able to download those for fee, just as in the past.

Hope this clears it up.

EffectsLab can retain the sound of the original clip, yes. Chromanator does not, because you are invariably combining several clips, which would require a full audio mixer. Our programs are visual, for image manipulation. If you need to do proper sound work, you should use your editing program or a dedicated sound program.

Our programs are for using during editing, so the ideal working method is to edit your movie in your editing program, then bring specific effects shots into EffectsLab/Chromanator. You can then render out the completed effects and simply slot them back into place in your editing program - thereby syncing up with the sound that is already there.

- Is there any way for me to import MPEG-movies into them?
MPEG isn't designed for editing purposes, as you will lose quality quite rapidly. You should use a codec designed for editing, such as DV, or keep specific effects shots uncompressed if you have the storage space.

- Can you also add sound to you movies?
As said above, our programs are not involved in the sound side of filmmaking. That's a whole other aspect of filmmaking.

- (Effectlab only) Are there no other 'effect options' apart form lightsaber, muzzle flash and the other exploding thing (keep forgetting the name) cuz there are no others in the demo.
Those effects are effects 'engines'. Each of them can create many different visual effects. The particle engine can create hundreds of different particle-based effects, for example - snow, rain, smoke, dust, debris, bullet impacts, sparks....etc.

We will be adding additional features in the future.
