Well, while all y'alls is out doing whatever, I thought I'd make my own little thread.

Introducing...
DESKTOPS AND DESKTOPS!

I decided it's be a fun idea for everybody to post pics of their computer desktops, and their general workstation desktops. If you post pics, you must not "tidy up" your workstation or consolidate your computer desktop.

Here's mine (I'm a bit of a neat freak)
My (physical) Desktop

My (virtual) Computer Desktop

And just for kicks and laughs, I grabbed a pic or two of Ben's room and computer desktop.

Ben's (physical) Desktop

Ben's (virtual) Desktop

(BWHAHAHAHAAH!)
Post some stuff, and let the games begin!

Heh, nice one Pooky.

I rather liked how the x86 version of OS X works just great on Athlon64's and Pentium 4's. Anyways, in a fairly short timespan thingy, I should have a nice pic of my two locations, my workstation and my rendercomp. As well as my rendercomp .5!!!

...We... haven't built it yet. biggrin

Nice topic, +1. I'll post my work station in a bit. I'll edit if there is only a couple replies.

To take screens on Mac without using some crappy program, I don't even know why it's there. Hit Apple>Shift>3 for full screen still, it saves automatically to desktop. You should hear a camera sound effect.. In preview convert the png to a jpg. Then for selection hit Apple>Shift>4 and then drag your mouse over where you want the screen to take. It should make a sound and save to desktop. Do same thing to convert it back to jpg. Grab sucks. razz

swg33k - I use:

-Windowblinds for skinning (doesnt hurt performance! I swear!)
-Iconpackager for icons (I changed em manually using some OSX default icons and some from the Docunium icon pack)
-Avedesk for desktop icons, weather, time, itunes thing... alright this uses 2 MB of RAM
-Multiplugin 2.0 for skinning iTunes glyphs and having a foobar2000 passthrough (greatly improves playback quality, reduces ram usage)
-Konfabulator for dashboard cloning, this is a memory hog and I rarely use it
-FlyakiteOSX 2.0 for small tweaks and skins... google it, it's awesome
-skinned Thunderbird, Firefox, Trillian
-Finderbar mod by kabal for finderbar in explorer
- www.osx-e.com and www.aqua-soft.org

smile Seems like a lot of hassle, but it's worth it.

Oh and The Hives rule.

Ok, here's my stuff.

Work Space
Desktop

In those drawers I store manuals for C4D, and FCS. Then in the mini drawers I store pencils, pens and stuff. I also store a long line of Mini-DV tapes in one. Then my other big drawer is a file folder for magazines and papers, such as scripts. Lots of MacWorld magazines. I have my DS and Mario Kart stylus there for entertainment while rendering. My iPod is just in the pic to show off. wink Though sometimes I have it charging in the comp, and uploading songs. Canon GL1 on tripod for importing. The remote next to my wireless mouse and keyboard is there to control camera while capturing. GL1 is also used occasionally as a webcam. That's all I can think of. Oh, the third stand behind the GL1 isn't usually there. I just got this desk, and that is my sister's. WE haven't gotten all her parts so we are just keeping it there.

Nice. Very Pottery Barn-ish. I have a style of similar simplicity myself, although I did say "don't tidy up", which I have a sneaking suspicion you did. smile

No, I honestly didn't. I just got that desk.

Also, that furniture is all from Pottery Barn. smile Note: The ugly quilt behind the screen is covering up a door to a storage space, it will soon be replaced by a movie poster and the desk will be centered to the frame.

PS-Pooky, love the moose. Mr. Moose eh?

Hum... Well.. my camera is at home, and my workspace is now spread across my home's basement and my dorm.

So here's my virtual desktop.

Of course, the entire premise of me having those toolbars is to reduce overall loading time for my desktop, and as such, they are merely enjoying photographic glory for this one shot. They are regularly set to "Auto Hide," keeping my desktop nice and neat.

Rare is a day where I must seek my Start Menu to find a program, but... meh.

And is it just me that center-horizontalifies my icons?
Alas, yes, I'm afraid it is, in fact, just you. Way to be non-conformist... geez...

Nah, not really. I like the idea, but... I have.. too many... to consider doing that. Plus I do a lot of networking, whose essentials are accessed by going through either Control Panel or, more quickly, through My Network Places. So. Yeah. Woot.

Well... in an interesting twist of irony... I was visiting home from college last weekend... and my mother offered what, at the time, seemed sound advice. To leave my camera at home.

"It's not safe there at campus," she said.

Thinking further into this, I came to the similar conclusion that she was right. I hadn't used my camera but on weekends, when I usually visited home anyways. 'Was it worth the "risk" of being in a locked dorm? Nah.' I thought. So, I left my camera at home and merrily carried on my way.

...of course, thread resurrection happens here, and another thread entitled "Your computer room" crops up at one of my other typically visited forums. Wow. Death, irony, and camera gods conspire against me. Okay, maybe not death, but... still.... nuts. I'll post an AVI of our "studio," and pictures of both real and virtual desktops of the rendercomp I have at home, and my standard computer which... pwns. Thanks to print screen, I can give you a post-format virtual desktop of my routine computer.

^ Mhy dehsktohp.

I use toolbars for most stuff, and I have a kickass and well-organized start menu.

Oh... and uh...

Is that a g4 powerbook? I run the same system. Have you thought about getting the iCurve? It has worked out great for me as I am able to avoid crinks in my neck from looking down all the time.

is the iCurve that plastic thing your powerbook is on? it looks pretty cool. i'll consider getting one.

does it also help prevent the bottom of the laptop from overheating? i would imagine that it would.

I'm not sure about the overheating. With the curve though, I'd recommend a wireless keyboard because when you type on the powerbook when its on the curve its unstable.

how much do wireless keyboards cost?

also, how high of your desk is the top of your powerbook when its on the iCurve? i have a bookshelf over my desk, so it may not fit.

I'd say 2 feet at the most. A wireless keyboard costs 60 dollars and in my mind is very much worth it, cuz i have trouble with laptop keyboards anyhow.

I just got a new table a redid my entire "studio" (room). Ive got to go back to IKEA to pick up some shelves tho. When I went to get my table it was my first time going to one. I was amazed it felt like the airport.

The best site for basically all digital images, Deviantart of course.

Here's a link to the most popular abstract wallpapers

http://browse.deviantart.com/wallpaper/abstract/?view=1&order=9&limit=24

And here's the one in question

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/13792333/

It's a really awesome site, you should check it out if you've never been before.
