Chat Problems

Why can't i get into chat? This little message comes up when i try to enter.

It appears that you have a firewall running blocking port 6667, unblock the port and you should be able to get in. Either that or the server's down.

yeah, thats what I was thinking, but how do i go about doing that? Could it be a network wide firewall?

Yes, if you're at a school, college, university, library, work office, etc. then there is a very high chance that they have blocked various ports on their firewall, including that one for IRC. And I really doubt that they will open it up if you ask them. :-)

Try connecting on port 8080 instead. I can't remember if you can get the java chat to do this, you might need to download a proper irc client (like mirc) instead.

Thanks malone. I installed mirc and connected to 8080. It took me awhile to figure things out but I'm in.
