The test that i have done using Effects Lab has explosions, fire, magic orbs, lightsaber, and muzzle flashes.
I hope you enjoy the 43 seconds of this film

NIce job I guess. The fire looked weird, sabers weren't the best, muzzle flashes were, different. The explosions were ground explosions and they exploded in air.

EDIT: In most cases, a vote on your on movie is fine. But this one is ridiculous. It is just a little test. Do you really think it deserves a 5/5? And don't you think it will lower your ratings, because people generally try to oppose the self-rating. That's just from observation. Why would you vote for your own film anyway? It just causes disputes. I generally don't mind it, but in this case it is just a little bit, extreme. Nice test though.

Why do people always get so farking caught up in something as arbitrary as self-voting? Is it a threat to your livelihood? Why must you concern yourself with something as absolutely inconsequential as this? Honestly, aren't there more important things in your life to worry yourself with. Get real.

Music sucked... sucked.... sucked...

Effects were okay:

Nothing you held in your hand was animated quite right. I suggest you pick a point in the video (like a finger) and follow that instead of basing it on the hand in general.

Fire was ok, energy balls were ok, explosions were ok, but they're supposed to explode on the ground, not on the bottom of the frame. Also artificial lighting doesn't hurt.

Muzzle flashes were awful, and this is how you fix that:

1. Only have them last one frame.
2. For machine guns, unless you have smoke (like sollthar's smoke pack) composited over the gunshots, you want to add a flash ever 2 - 3 - 1 (change each time) frames. Also, add artificial lighting (theres a tutorial for chromy in the tutorial section of the site)
3. Act as if there was recoil when you film. Recoil = backwards motion when you shoot, and not upwards!.
4. Dont add side ejection thingies unless its a really big minigun or M-16 or something. Thompson submachine guns (*jealous*) do not have any, so just stick with your basic diamon shaped muzzle flash. same for handguns.
5. Smoke helps sel the effect, not to mention make it look cool. Don't overdo it unless you want it to loo kvery fake, though.

Lightsaber was a basic lightsaber. and dissapearing was too slow.

Oh and did I mention the music was awful? smile

If this is one of your first tests, good job, because you seem to still master the program well. Your problem is making the effects look real.

Where did you get the Thompson, BTW?

It was pretty good-

The fire suddenly appearing was a little cheesy, the explosions weren't placed directly on the bottom. The lightsaber was good, the muzzle flashes kinda sucked, as already mentioned by Pooky. Energy balls were cool. It's good to see you're mastering the aspects of stock footage already. Almost everything blended in quite well.

3/5, keep up the good work.

Irishcult, please do not take anything personally because it's a test. A simple test, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I admit maybe I was a little too blunt, so I've changed that. Although, if you think you can honestly do much much better, then maybe you should wait, touch up some things until you're happy with it, then submit it. If someone gives the movie a low rating, it's not because they don't like you, it's because they think you can do better.

You have a blue lightsaber 0-999. It turns orange 1000-1999. Then it turns green 2000-2999. Then purple 3000+. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. So each time it hits an interval of 1000, it restarts and has to grow all over again as a differnet color.

I think you are taking this a little too hard and seriously. I don't get caught up in it. I am just wondering why he would do it because other people always get caught up in it, especially if it is just a test. Irishcult, you should never rate a movie a score that you don't think it deserves. People thought you took it so personally because you typed up a post as long as the Ultimate FAQ just on criticism of a test. We were telling you things you should improve on, and then you made an excuse as to why they were bad. Next time, just fix it if you think it would make sense. We are just giving advice, no need to respond to every little thing we see. Also note: I did not give it a 0 to counter your 5, I did not even see the 5 until after I voted.

That is close to correct. You are actually only missing one color in there, and one detail. The order is as follows:

0-999- Blue
1000-1999- Yellow
2000-2999- Green
3000-3999- Red
4000 and up- Pink (There are no other colors beyond 4000. The saber no longer reverts back to a smaller size when receiving an additional 1000 force at this point)

irishcult- I actually did not mind this. With all of the other pointers in mind, I think you did an okay job incorporating stock footage into your movie. A tip that I find useful for making sabers look "realistic" is, add a feather in "Blade Shapes", and/or "Neon Glow" (which ever one you prefer, perhaps both if you like that look).

I find a feather of about four or five adds a nice look. However that can change depending on your prop, and the back ground, use your best discretion. I have given this movie a two, I hope you understand why. No offence intended toward you.

Keep them coming.
Wizard.

Sheesh, I was commenting to help you. Since you don't seem to like helpful criticism (and misunderstand it), I suppose that's the last bit of help I ever give you.

Sorry to brake it to you, but it wasn't good at all. There were no sound fx, and the fire looked weird to me. What's the point of putting it on here if it was such a simple test? If you want advice about something so small, just post it in the forum, instead of the cinema. Also, if you're bored, you can always post instead of giving your OWN movie you a five, when you don't even think it deserves one. Also, what was with the weird astro boy and halo picture?

What are you talking about? I mean the picture that goes next to the title of your movie. And all I meant was, why is it there, because astro boy and halo have nothing to do with this EL test. Besides, what's the big deal? So I don't like how it looks, it's just my opinion. neutral

Just saw it...Dude...That was...How do I say this nicely...(Trying to think like Paula Abdul does on American Idol)

There are no words to explain how bad that was...I'm sorry but it SUCKED...No sound effects...Crappy lightsaber moves....The movie itself was choppy...And you never even had any credits to tell us what song it was...What you did and most importantly commend Effects Lab!

Dude if you want to just do Effects then just edit movies this looks like you just did this to say you have a little golden ticket icon on the bottom of your screen and just becuase you were bored...

I'm sorry but this has NO originality. If you want to submit something maybe you should spend more than 15 minutes editing it!

Next time you submit something make it with a PLOT or just spend more time with it...
