The fileplanet beta of Star Wars Battlefront is now open to everyone, as this topics title suggests.

And as I've said before, this game is the lamest form of lame to ever lame or to ever have lamed in the history of lameness.

And it's not worth it. Really, it can't even be considered an expansion pack IMHO.

Just tried it, and as Hybrid said it's not good. I suggest that people should wait for the full and finished version, because this is lame.

Yep, I remember a week ago or so I warned people how awful this game is and no one believed me. Oh how those hearts will be broken. Save yourself the heartache and the bandwidth and just avoid this one like the plague! Do yourself a real favour and download either the FEAR demo or Fahrenheit/Indigo prophecy.

A thin layer of faeces.

I think it adds space combat, and you can get the chance to play as a special character. For example I briefly played as Darth Vader then when you die someone else gets a chance. It's a nice idea amongst a terrible, terrible game unfortunately.

The first game was a BIG disapointment to me, this news saddens me, I was hoping they would have learned from their mistakes and tidied it up !! Shame !!

well, i'm guessing it's lame. My opinion Starwars Battlefront II is not supposed to be cool to play 'til Nov Ist i also think it'll be cool that it talks more about the 501st!

Playing it on a PC online is terrible. Thats about all that can be said about it.

If you're used to any other PC multiplayer team-based FPS - the Battlefield series, CS, Farcry, UT, Quake etc - then Battlefront II will play like it was written by children, for children. Given that its aimed at the console market, i suppose it probably is 'for children', actually.

You know that rare occasion when, on a whim, you decide to download some arcadey blast-em-up from Fileplanet because its right at the bottom of the list, its made by an unknown development team, the graphics look terrible and you've never heard one word about it on the internet....yet you assure yourself that "it can't be *that* bad, otherwise they wouldn't have embarassed themselves by releasing it - it'll be a laugh".

Then you play it and realise that its the most ill-thought-out, poorly designed game on the planet, clearly written by people who don't actually play games...

Thats how Battlefront II is in comparison to the rest of the genre.

F*cking terrible.

You're 13. I, on the other hand have almost 13 years more gaming experience than you.

I think the public can probably make their own mind up from our testimonials.

As a gamer who bought X-wing when it first came out, then Tie-Fighter, then dark forces, etc. I've bought, played and completed every single lucasarts Starwars game ever written...up to about 2001. At this point, they largely all got abysmal (with a few exceptions, eg Galaxies).

Since 2001 I've downloaded all of lucasart's games hoping desparately that they'd revive the depth, raw action and playability that the StarWars gaming universe had back in 1990-ish.

I therefore played it for several hours attempting to "get into it" - hoping that i simply had some setting in the options wrong, something which made the mouse less uncontrollable and the graphics less garish and mediocre. But the sad fact is that its just wildly sub-par. Its just half-arsed arcadey action. If you're the type that likes inane console-aimed games, low poly counts, total lack of photorealism, character movement, physics, colours... you'll love it. But anyone who classifies themselves as a reasonably hardcore gamer, will be embarassed they ever downloaded it.

I'm siding with Xcession on this one, anyone that believes Star Wars Battlefront 2 to be anything above massively sub par is dillusional about where gaming technology is right now.

I've been a gamer for a long, long time now and like Xcession I've been looking into Star Wars releases whenever they're released hoping that somewhere along the line some of the magic that was in say... Jedi Knight : Jedi Outcast would appear again. Unfortunately all that's been released atleast PC wise has been terrible. (The consoles has recieved Rogue Leader and Rogue Leader II - which I consider to be good SW games).

There is really no excuse for how bad SWBF2 is, other games on the Xbox i.e. Farcry Instincts make it look bad. I don't even need to mention Half Like 2 or Battlefield 2 (though admittedly, I just did). The problem with SWBF2 isn't entirely graphical either, there is something flawed with the actual engine they've run it on which makes the whole experience unbearable. I too, am ashamed I ever gave SWBF2 a chance.

While we're on the subject of Star Wars games, I'd just like to name-drop Knights of the Old Republic which is, in my opinion, the finest Star Wars game I've played. It's also arguably more exciting and interesting than the prequel films themselves.

Knights of the Old Republic 2, however, is one of the worst games I've ever had the misfortune to play.

I believe graphics are quite “sucky”, and the modeling is too geometric. I hope there is an increase before its released.

I’m glad they added space combat to it, yet I also love how they completely added new features to aerial combat, which changes everything on the battlefield.

When a friend of mine told me there was Jedi and heroes I became extremely upset. Because (I thought this before playing) everyone would just be running around as a Jedi and the entire point of being an average solider in the war would be destroyed. It was the same thought as if everyone was running around as Joseph Stalin or Hitler in Battlefield 1942 (which is one of my personal favorites). But when I downloaded the Beta I was relieved to see how they set up the whole Hero/Jedi System. Basically, I think it is an excellent game, other than the major works that need to be done on player modeling and some of skinning.

Actually Ryan Wieber did some lightsabers since that is his specialty and he basically taught a bunch of VFX artists at Lucas arts to improve the lightsabers. Then he was cut loose.

If you didn't notice, most lightsabers in the Star Wars games sucked until this gen.

I call BullShot, the Lightsabers in Jedi Knight 2 : Outcast were outstanding, many people seem to agree as that was the last really popular jedi knight game.

Back on topic, anyone that thinks Battlefront II is good really, really hasn't seen the light yet. Shame. Us PC gamers have been playing the demo, it's awful. So Awful.

The cons of Star Wars Battlefront I was its online play, easiness, and in fact it was an incredibly boring game. Although, the game is great when played against a friend, it really never captures the feel of a star wars battle.

However, I will buy Battlefront II because im interested in seeing what the new aspects are like. For the same reason I buy Madden every year it comes out. There is a little something to make it better. Now, im not expecting a revolutionary game, but I do in fact look forward to playing Battlefront again, except with Battlefront II new aspects will make a decent game more enjoyable.
