I got the money to finally get an ipod which I would like to get now. However, I know that they might be revealing the 5th generation Ipods on the 12th of this month. They will probably be better than the 4th generation, but the 4th generation does all I want with all the bells and whistles. Should I get it now? Or wait for the 5th generation coming soon.

Same here, they just came out with the 4th generation like, a year ago, so I don't think it will be much different. But do what YOU want, not what we say you should want.

Well, I'd say hold your horses...you never know what they might come up with..I mean, nobody expected something so spectacular as iPod NANO !!!

And if you buy an iPod now, you might regret for not waiting, cause maybe the newer generation has some extra feature that might come in handy...

Cheers,

Hey, I never thought about those kind of possibilities. I just thought they would just like, ad in some new game, or music sorting system. Hopefully though, the new one will be able to play VIDEO. wink

It won't do video.

The market isn't ready yet tbh, and Apple know that most of the stuff on it would be illegal. Not this time, me thinks.

I think they'll add video playback. They added video sorting to the new iPhoto, and that is the only "iLife" thing they are missing.

Interesting.

I think we have answered his question.

Don't buy now......you never know what the latest and greatest Apple stuff is gonna do. I got a 3G iPod two Decembers ago, and WHAM! The Mini and 4G are introduced, completely abolishing all accessories and support I could've got for mine. I walked into the Apple store and and there's nothing there for my iPod even though I'd only had it for a week. Sucks. Don't buy now.

But, Ben, the G3 isn't really bad, it's just out of date. Although I do agree now that you should wait. And Ben, since you didn't know about the new ipod then, you thought it was the best you could get.

True, but 18 months donthe road Apple discovered mass battery life problems- pricey to fix problems that sadly ailed my iPod. I hate the click wheel, I favor the four buttons on mine much more- but for the same price as my 10gb iPod I could now get either a new Nano or a 30gb or so regular iPod. Just some observations.

Wait to see what the 5th gen looks like. If you don't like it, the price on the 4th gen will go down since a new iPod is out and you will get it for a lower price.

It's like the Mini and the Nano, the moment Nano was released the iPod mini's price immediately dropped at least 50-75 bucks...

That is true, my ipod now has only like two hours of battery life. (I have the 3G as well) Do you know if there is ANYWHERE you can get a decent price on a new battery? My brother, (Deepcoiler) wants a new ipod, but I think he shouldn't. But, then again, now that the new ones are hopefully coming out soon....

The real question is can a 3G/4G/5G/xG play your music better than a 3G/4G/5G/xG? I think you should go with the one that does it best.

...wait... they all perform the same basic function.

Orion, while that may be true, oh wait, it isn't. I think that since 4G/5G battery > than 3G, they play the music better (longer.) Also, if it has a sweet thing like video playback or the picture gallery like in 4th gen, it is worth the wait.

However thinksecret has been sued by apple before for incorrect/unlicensed material release. There are many articles that counter thinksecret's, and it looks like the ipod video will be released next week.

Yes, and Apple has been sued for suing press for unwarranted material releases and infringing the First Amendment. smile

Still, that doesn't change the fact that rumors are still rumors until they are proved. Facts are, the iPod Nano was just recently released. I doubt Apple would want to digress from a hit release (yeah, I will give Apple points for the Nano). The video iPod wont be for a long time.

Apple is a strange little company so really, no one knows what will happen or whether rumors are facts.

EDIT: Besides, that iPod movie ad is a clear mockup.

That is definately not real, at least I hope. I think that design is very ugly. Clickwheel looks tiny and to small for the sixe of the actual device. However, if it is real, I will still get it because I need a video playback device and a new iPod. My 3rd gen's battery is rubbish.

I know, there are plenty of drafts that people have made but that one is the slickest i believe. It also goes by the description on appleinsider.

Once again, there is no MARKET for videos. Companies WILL NOT be happy with the iPod supporting video UNTIL there is a store similar to that of the iTunes store that deals with movies. It won't be video IMO.

I didn't even know they were revealing it on the 12th until I read this thread. How embarrasing redface .

Anyways, let me know what happens, because I have no knowledge of Apple (I used to be an avid gamer, and at the time the only games for macs would run really slow).
