******THE IN LIST IS OFFICALLY CLOSED!!******

*-*-*-*-*-*THE ENTRY THREAD HAS BEEN CREATED!! CHECK IT OUT HERE.*-*-*-*-*-* ( THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL POST YOUR FILMS).

As you all may know, there are only a few weeks until Halloween. In the spirit of the holiday, I thought I'd start working on a horror film. This challenge is simple, create and post a horror film by Halloween(on this thread).

Just because you aren't on the in list doesn't mean you can't enter! You may still enter, but you will not be eligable for the prize.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rules:

-Film must be submitted by October 31st.

-Film must be horror related (have fun with it).

-You must state you are "in". Once you have stated that you are "in" you

will be held accountable to donate 20 force points to the winning film

creator. CUT OFF DATE FOR THE "IN" LIST IS OCTOBER 20TH!! EACH

entree must donate 20 force points to the winner. Do not enter if your

unwilling to pay up (it's 20 force guys..come on..who cares?).

-Film must be under 20 minutes in length.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am in if we set a length thing. Also, I think we should have a mini prize to motivate people to participate. How about in order to enter, you must "pay" 20 force points and by posting "I'm in" you are agreeing to donate. This way you can't really pull out and if enough people enter, there will be a decent prize (better than nothing.

I'm in.

(Agrees to donate however many force points to enter, thus motivatng me to follow through) Hope you understand and I hope this sounds good, I just need to be motivated because on my schedule, it is tough to get anything done unless I am pushed.

Also, edit the "rules post" and edit the topic by saying "Rules changed on" every time you edit. Because I think your lack of rules will lead to chaos. Like, 20 minute POS films. Maybe put a time rule (3 minutes.) Then you can judge who made the best scary movie in a limited time. Also, to submit, I can host your films, e-mail me with the final product at admin@cpostudios.com, compress it decently and you have free hosting for your film, I'll never remove it.

Great idea's Serpent. My movie will definately be longer then 3 minutes, it might be in the 20 minute range, actually. I like the prize idea. Everyone who's "in" will be held to their honor to donate 20 points to the winning film creator? If I understood that right, I'd say thats a great idea. Your tips made a lot of sense and have been VERY helpfull. Plz keep em comin and GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FILMS!

Erm, this idea is to encourage people to make good films and hope for prizes. Do you really care about 20 force points? Post a resource that you found at Google and there you go, you earned it back.

You may go ahead and create something. I'm not saying you cannot create a horror film. Please do. You will just not be eligeable for the HAUNTFEST HORROR AWARD. smile I hope to see a film from you.

What's lotsa force good for if you don't have friends to show it to? OHHHHH! Yeah-yeah! Das right, biatch, I shut you down, homes!! What? Yeah!

Oh well, I'm in, but only if I am able to turn one in by the deadline and have it judged against the rest. If I slack-off or can't get it up in time, I'd rather keep my force, seeing as how I would then have no weight in the competition.

I'm in, and I'll create a separate film from Atom. Also, anybody who thinks losing 20 force will be a liability (Frozenpede) I'll pay the 20 for them. Peace and out.

Oh, and I tihnk the time limit should be more like 7-10 minutes, to allow the creators more creativity. I've been in several 3-5 minute contests where I had to cut alot of what I wanted simply to fit time measures.

Although I will most likely not have any time to get together any kind of entry, and therefore, will not be making a submission, I am still a big supporter of inspirational ideas such as this, and I think this is a great way for every one to have some fun.

Some members may be deterred from making a submission because of the force, and I don't want to see anyone be excluded from the fun solely because of this. The prize remains a great idea, and I want to help members make the decision to join in, and get those creative juices flowing.

For this reason, I will be giving every member who says, or has said "I'm in" an up rating. This is to offer help with "paying off" half of the required "payment", and to encourage anyone who is thinking about getting involved, but is apprehensive about it.

Have fun, and good luck.

I'm in...hopefully. I've been trying to get a little sppoky, Halloween script done so I could make something before the holiday. I think I should be able to get it made before the 31st.

Either way, if I don't make it, I'll still give the winner the prize, I personally don't really care about force points. I'll give the winner 50.

You are welcome; it's not a problem miker. I wish I could take it one step further and make a movie of my own, but I don't think it would work at the moment. Still a good idea though, that I believe more members should get involved in.

The prize is growing to be pretty substantial, and as the old adage says "nothing ventured, nothing gained", so 20 force isn't much to ask for if the potential reward is even greater.

Way to be in the spirit of things JasonSly, plus one as I said. That is kind of you. I hope that inspires a few more, and I would love to see the result of this.

Thanks for being a good sport.

http://media.putfile.com/Greenwood-Halloween-Special

its halloween related and if I dont get enough film up in time, then I guess this will count as my submission (Ill prolly get another one up though)

I believe the idea is actually that of Serpent, and yes, I think it is very clever. My only part in this is that I want to help motivate others to follow through, and to try to keep in mind that this is about the fun, instead of the main idea being about the force; although that makes it interesting as well. If you decide to enter, ssjaaron, I wish you luck.

Good luck everyone.

Ok, everytime someone says I'm in, make sure they have +2, then they get in free and still are motivated to make it good. I think time is important because it will see who can portray their ideas the best in X minutes. Also, I might not be able to enter, but since I said "I'm in" my 20 force still goes in the pot. on't give me +2, I don't need the extra help. I have to spend my time on my Atom Films submission and school work. If I have free time, I'll throw something together.

I'm also kind of unsure about this. I want to get more people involved in the decision making, rather then just me. I couldn't judge my own film. Maybe I'll pm a few select people and have them help me or do the judging. I'm still unsure..anyone with any ideas on this please pm me. Despite my lack of rules/ organization in this event, please follow through with it. I know this whole thing is kind of unclear..but it's mainly for fun. The focus isn't on the prize or the reward, it's mainly about getting in the Halloween spirit and seeing some new horror films. So far we have a pretty decent turn out, and I'm SO GREATFULL for all the support and help in organizing this whole thing.

Why not let the FXHome team or the Superusers do the judging?

And I'm in if I can find the time to do it (if I don't get an entry finished I'll still donate the 20 force points to the winner). Serpent mentioned a 3 minute timelimit earlier, are we still going through with that?

I suggest that we make a poll, for all users to vote on. But we should also have some rules:
1. Don't vote for yourself.
2. Don't vote for your friends if thier film sucked, be honest.

thats all i got right now.

I would say a more interesting approach to judging would be to make a panel of users whom films are in the top 25 highest-rated in the movie archive. Then, if any user (such as maybe people like nivlak of "Art of the Saber") can't judge, you just move down to list to the 2nd-26th highest-rated film users.

If I'm not mistaken, this would look sorta like this:

The judges would be....
nivlak
ferral
mmmprod
MechaForce
mavic19
Icken9
Sollthar
etc.

Hmm this sounds like a really good idea to me. I was thinking of trying to do a horror movie sometime this month before halloween anyway.

As of right now I'm not sure if I will get enough time between now and then to do so, but I definitely would like to participate if I can. I'll have to look it over with my people. My thoughts are that I'll most likely be able to do it, seeing that I have this Friday free and was planning to do some sort of filming anyway. But we'll see.

Its a good idea miker, and I hope the turnout will be as good as it seems to be so far.

I would say that 10 minutes seems to be a reasonable time limit.

Atom, I like your idea on judging. But don't you think a panel of 25 judges seems a little much? I would say make it 10 at the most.

I would check to see if the CSB guys could put together a poll similar to how it's done in the cinema, so that not just anyone can vote (as opposed to the forum polls, which are anonymous). I dunno, just an idea.

I'd say the judges should be as impartial as possible - users who haven't got top-rated movies in the cinema, or users who haven't got movies at all. Judges who actually have their own movies may end up biased towards their personal methods of flim-making, or plain jealous of undiscovered talent. Of course judgest would have to be well chosen - from the veterans of FXHome and those who regularly contribute with cinema movie reviews.

FXHome staff don't have the time to dedicate anyone to writing a specific alteration to the voting system to facilitate this competition....unless whoever is organising this can submit a detailed, plausible proposal within a suitable amount of time to actually get the required work done before the 31st.

Unless this decent propsal is submitted...like, today... the alternatives are a panel of judges who create their own channel on the fxhome chat room, to discuss the submissions.

I would have suggested that judges submit their scores to a head judge, but thats just too clinical and seems open to un-democratic influence.

You guys needed to come up with a full set of rules awhile ago. I did something like this a few years ago. But it was all organized ahead of time. If i was the person who made this post i would have gave at least 5 to 10 rules right off the bat and then ajusted them accordingly.
List if rules i recommened:
Film must be related to horror or halloween.
Film Must be submited by October 31st
Film can be posted in the Fxhome cinima
You must post a reply saying your in and doing so you will receive 2 positive ratings
Judges will be _________ ___________ and _________ ect...
After a winner is found all participants will give 20 force points to the winner.
You will be judged on theme, setting, originality, sequencing, __________ ect...

Then add rules to it as it goes on and alert ppl that there has been an change.

Also in the same post list the people whom are in.
LIke:
People who are in:
WhiteMtPictures
obidean
Irishcult
ect..

Also i like the idea of a time length. But a rule like your film must not be longer then 10 minutes any films that are after 10 minutes will stop being judged after the 10 minute mark comes. But a rule like it must be longer then 3 minutes or something i think would not be a good idea. I think you film should be as short as you want it to be.

Also multiply films. I think only one film per participant.
And a new reply that is undated with a list of people and the link to there entree.
like:

Frozenpede
Frozenpede- Halloween Special

Atom
Atom- Halloween film

ect...

Just some suggestions.

I would say that since we are using force points as a prize and since each entree must give 20 force points to the winner, those who are submitting a movie should be a member here.

I like the poll idea. Everyone votes not just some panel of elites. I wanna see how my film does over all, not just with a select few.

oh and I dont think that my official entry....that was just inspired by the idea.

I agree with a 10 minute limit, not including end credits, as those sometimes take a while.

10 minutes sounds perfect to me, that's just about the length I was imagining in my head for my movie and was dreading someone suggesting a 4 or 5 minute limit. eek

I vote(heh) for the poll idea too, if there's a nice easy way to prevent rampant misuse.

And I don't think we're too late to get the rules hammered down, this isn't Tribeca, it's just a fun little contest to get people motivated to make a cool Halloween movie. We've still got over 2 weeks to figure out how to judge them.

I was thinking the same thing. If this were a "big" event I'd pull together a few Super-Users/Vet's perhaps. I think we will be setting up a poll by the time everyone has submitted something. Keep an eye on the Rules. As for the timelimit, I'm hesitant to set one. Some 2 minute films can be better than 2 hour epic's..just like Timmy said. I doubt anyone is going to create something that elaberate for this. Yes, setting a timelimit does force you to create something in a certain time barrier, showing talent. On the other hand, it holds other people back. Seems we have mixed opinions on this one. I hear good from both sides. Since I have chosen to create a film (hopefully in the 20 minute area), I'm going to say NO TIMELIMIT. In the future there will be a more well thought out and well planned challenge, for future films. But, as for this one. HAVE SOME FUN

Judging by the number of entries, people must have trust in this festival and its outcome. As of now things seem under control and there is over two weeks to decide on judging. One key factor that is missing is there has been no designated minimum or maximum length for the entries.

I move that there should be an "In" list cut off, so somebody can't already have worked on one, then at the last minute say "In!". There definetly needs to be a cutoff date.

Out of curiosity, how would it affect the contest if someone were to submit their entry at the last minute? I guess I just don't see how that would give anyone an advantage or disadvantage. I'm not planning on entering myself, I was just curious as to the reasoning behind this new rule - seems a little arbitrary to me.

And for the three people who have just used the word, it's spelled definitely. /spelling nazi smile

That was a keyboard typo, not a syntaxical error. I knows mines words.

And what I meant by cutooff was that it someone on the "IN" list could tell their idea or something about their movie to someone on FXHome whom they thought wasn't participating, then that non-participant could just take all that info and enter. It would just be all around better to have a cutoff.

Rules prevent cheating, unfairness, and ultimately make everything easier on the entrants and judges. We don't have to have rules for EVERYTHING, but the more rules that are necessary for order in the competition, the better. I don't see any problems, so long as most filmmaking freedoms aren't restricted. Jeez Louise.

umm...I'm sorry. But when I said "I'm in" I thought this was the board for the trip to the 2006 Hawaiian Tropics Bikini Competition. Sorry guys, but I'll have to withdraw.

just kidding!

Rules for the Competition
1: There is no standing 8 count
2: A fighter cannot be saved by the bell.
3: Punches below the belt will result in a warning or loss of a point
4: Your corner cannot throw in the towl. The fight is to be called at the refs discretion
5: No crying if you lose.

Three questions.

1) Am I allowed in
2) Does the movie have to be live actors or can it be stop motion
3)Is the movie allowed to be under 10 minutes

Yes, anyone that is a member of the board is allowed in as long as no Mesage Board rules are broken (pr0n and whatnot.) Yes, of course it can be stop motion, however it will probably be less scary, it could win because it might be creative or funny. The time limit is 10 minutes, so yes it can be under. (I think 10 is what we decided on. Also, by asking if you CAN be in, are you in, because you need a +2 if you care about force points. I think this system really worked out well, I hope poeple really enter because the pot is growing.

Use the edit button if you need to say two things after you have already posted. Ok, you don't need to give 20 force to anyone until the winner is selected. As for trophy, that's a good idea, maybe someone can through something proffesional together for display by their sig.

FXHome team, if you read this, maybe in the future we can have official contests with force prizes and some forums run little contests. They have an image for each contest they one display below their avatar. Maybe on here we can have another little icon thing for "Contest winner" below the sig and it would look like a trophy. Then in their userprofile it shows the contests they have won and when you select one (like the films submitted drop down) it takes you to the contest thread/page. I think this would be a great idea to make the site even more interactive.

Actually..as stated in the rules, there is no timelimit to your movie. I guess I might as well change it to under 20 minutes to keep everyone happy. I'm pretty sure no one is going to make anything longer then 20 minutes. After tonight, I'm afraid my film may not be done. I don't want to rush mine too much..I wanted this one to turn out good. I'll probly make something else and enter it..rather then the one I was already planning on entering. 10 minutes was never a rule though. Since I already said no timelimit, I don't want to screw over anyone who was planning on something longer then 10 minutes...like I WAS. I'll set the timelimit to 20 minutes and under.

Well bad news for me, my sister is going on vacation for two weeks and asked me if she could barrow my camera, since I can't say no to a family member I will never be able to make the due date for the contest. But I will give the winner of the contest 40 force points because I think this is a great idea, and horror movies are my favorite. Good luck everyone. biggrin

I started a film, but since I didn't get anything done this weekend, I'm not sure that it will be finished by Halloween. I'm going to write a new script for a completely different film and hopefully get it finished by the 31st. Sounds like we're having a great turnout so far. I look forward to Halloween even more, to watch all these films.

Hmm... music was amazingly bad IMO (please never use Heavy Metal or Alternative or Punk in a movie) and is indeed extremely short. Would have been nice to know exactly what happens.

Just a note...

Dont submit anything else until we create the entries thread, you will get your chance.

Yeah, and that movie was absurdly short. And no heavy metal which does not rock.

Not possible, unless you were to have a mod do it. Just remember to re-enter when the entries thread appears on 12:00 AM October 20th FXhome Time.

Yes, on October 20th there will be an Entries thread created for everyone to post their films. Only films with creators on the "in" list will be accepted.

As of right now, you all have about 21 hours until the Entries thread opens, and the "In" List closes.

Remember, as soon as the FXhome time reaches 12:00 AM on the Twentieth you will not be able to enter into the contest anymore.

Just reiterating what has already been said...

I thought the in list was just there to let people know you were in, and to get force if they were low and wanted to enter/put forth the points. I don't see why a non-in list person couldn't enter. They would be required to donate 20 (make pot even higher) or they would be DQ'ed and have their film up for enjoyment. Remember guys, I can host some of the films, just keep the size reasonable and post a mirror on http://yousendit.com to save me bandwidth please. Your film will be removed from my server if you don't host it at yousendit (specifically.) Then after your 30 downloads or whatever is used up, post my link for permanent use. If it is going in the cinema, use my URL obviously.

Sorry, when i said not accepted, I meant NOT APPLICABLE for the prize. Other films are more then welcome..just not elligable for the force points.

Why does entry end on the 20th (tomorrow)? Halloween isn't for another 11 days after that...

Should be 28th in my opinion. But entries don't end, the 20 force bonus "In List" ends.

Heres a timetable for what me and Miker have set up:

October 20th: "In" list ends, entries begin.
October 31st: Entries end.
November 7th (pending): Voting ends, prizes are awarded.

Remember, just because we start the the entries tomorrow doesnt mean that you have to stop making your film... you have till Halloween to enter it.

If we get an entries thread set up for everyone on the "IN" list, we will have time to set up and manage a poll to which everyone will vote for the film they think is best. Sooner (to halloween) is better. Creators who are not on the "IN" list will not be eligable for the prize, but they may still post their film.

I'll make 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runners-up custom drawings in MSPaint. Just a little incentive for the losers. smile

I would've done something but I couldn't get an idea and the time of no submitting is too early.

Idea for next time:

1. Give a word or sentence that you must base the movie off of (something like "guy finds something in basement" or something)

2. make the deadline much later

I agree. Maybe next time I'll have enough force so that I don't lose almost all of it entering.

That would cool. Don't really know what it'd be about, but one idea. A kid gets a bunch of nuclear weapons for christmas and accidently blows up his house. biggrin

That's too specific. It'd have to allow people to still come up with movies that are different.

Something like.... bear. razz

I was wondering if my entry has to be a film or if it can be a trailer for a film thats coming becuase I know I won't be done in time for the 31st. It doesnt say anything about it in the rules so.

No trailers. Me and Miker disussed this, and after all, it IS a FILM challenge, and I know I wouldnt be satified if i sat down to watch some films and all i got were trailers. No trailers.
