Good news everyone! In all the hubbub over their new product releases, Apple forgot to tell anyone the truly important news - they have finally released an update to Quicktime 7 that fixes the previous compatibility problems, which means that all EffectsLab and Chromanator users can finally upgrade to QT7 without any concern.

Head along to the Apple site to download the latest Quicktime installer:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

Note that using the automatic update system in existing Quicktime installations won't necessarily work, so be sure to download the new installer manually to make sure you're all up-to-date.

It only came out yesterday afternoon (12th Oct). If you installed QT7 before then make sure you reinstall it.

I hadn't noticed any problems while I've had QT7 (Pro on a Mac), but this is still a joyous occasion! Huzzah for bug fixes -- and preset libraries (By the by, how's it going?). Also, if anyone didn't know this, iTunes 6.0 is out with over 2,000 music videos and T.V. programs for download in the Music Store for $1.99 apiece.

Rogolo, the problem was with the Windows versiona nd it affected EffectsLab, and iTunes. Without QT7, no iTunes, with QT7, no EL.

Also, Apple has changed the layout of the trailer section and because of the Windows fix, there is more HD trailers.

Ah yes, now 480p runs reasonably smooth (framerate seems to be slightly low) but 720p is choppy and 1080p is like a slow-motion slideshow... I have a 1.9GHz CPU (equivalent to a 2.6GHz P4)...

I can play the 1080is on my Mac. Tarn, maybe it's your awesome video card? I don't know much about them, and I dont know how awesome yours is, but that's just a guess.

Awesome video card? Far from it, it's what I have... it's a very good card for the price, but compared to some higher cards it's kinda puny. Tarn's P4 must be 3.0GHz or more, as my 1.9 Athlon XP is the equivalent of a 2.6 P4, and I have as much RAM as Tarn.

I guess I must be the only one now having more headaches then ever with Quicktime. Ever since this update it had been bugging me that the version would expire in so many days..and to update a new version. And when I go to try to do so and I get nothing but errors trying to install the newer version...errors trying to overwrite the older version, I can't uninstall the older version and then install the new one.

There was definitely something wrong with that version. I've deleted everything related to Quicktime that I can see(since I can't uninstall it nicely and cleanly) but I still get the same errors. It seems like there's some little bit of Quicktime code hanging around preventing me from updating.

Anyone else ran into these problems and found a solution?

It's probably best to post your question on the Apple Quicktime support forums, since the problem you're having is not to do with the FXhome products, but rather with Quicktime itself.

One question, though, and sorry if this is silly, but after you downloaded the latest Quicktime installer, did you actually run it? smile

Whenever I run a QT video, I get the below error message and the update dosn't fix this. Any ideas?

I think you should post your problem in Apple's Quicktime support forums.

But you could try this:

1. Make sure you're logged in as an administrator
2. Uninstall Quicktime
3. Download the latest standalone QT7 player (no iTunes etc) and install it
4. If you get any error messages during installation, make a note of them and include them in your post in the Apple forums

Also, can you think of any software (firewall/antivirus/etc) that you have configured to stop ActiveX controls being installed?

[EDIT] This is worth a read.
