Ok i dont demand ip check, but it would be THE BEST!

There is still vote rigging i think, some stupid ppl dont care if anybody spots it, I know its mayby not such a big deal, but the site would be greater thou. You can see that some ppl, just registred like 2 hours ago, that have only voted for one movie.
With ip check, it would keep all people from being suspicius.
Then you know that only 1 ppl per ip can vote. And if someone registres 1 hour ago or something, and vote a 5 for only 1 movie, you know that the guy is just some "new foolish member". OK?

An IP address doesnt corrospond to one person. I can think of many situations where one person could be surfing the web and switching between many different IP addresses. I can also think of many situations where many people are forced to use one IP address, how would you like to be blocked from voting just because someone has already used your IP?

I dont think IP address checking is worth my time implementing, and will cause even more problems. I think your second idea is much better, I may consider putting a time limit before new users can vote.

I know people take a lot of pride in their films (and so they should!) and dont like being voted down. But please remember that this is just for fun, there is nothing to lose from not being a the top, all movies deserve equal respect.

If you'll feel someone is voting unfairly, please email me and tell me about it. I am the only one with all the available information, and the only one that can do anything about it (apart from schwar of course smile ). I dont want to see anymore suggestions of cheating on the forum

By the way, if the voting continues to cause problems, we will be considering removing it entirely

Malone, your starting to sound like my teachers. sad

If you were to remove the voting system, much interest would be lost in the cinema. It's friendly competiton, but no one likes it if someone cheats. Wherever your movie is in the charts is a sign of status. Let's say you've spent two months on a movie, and three kids all vote it two stars to knock it off the list.

I think the cinema section is fine as it is. You can see if someone's voting your movie down, and at least there aren't any more 0 star votes, as those are blatantly obvious.. wink

I don't think it's large enough of an issue to be removed, but don't forget, as the website moderator... (not to be condescending) it is your job to try to solve these kinds of problems.

Once again... I don't think it's bad enough to really worry about.

I have remained silent in the voting thing but I do wish they would get rid of the zeros. I got one for BBG and even though the person explained it a zero stinks. It is like "It was worth nothing?" A 1 at least says "stinks but at least you did something". I wasn't going to write anything cause I don't want to get into the middle of a voting war so this is just an opinion. Anyway, I think if someone does a movie good for them and if it isn't so hot try to give some constructive criticism and tackfully point out where it can improve. Anyhow, I am caving into popular 5 star pressure and my next flick is a FX, gun shootin' hard rock action flick! (I just want to do it wink )

This situation can happen with just about ANY voting thing online. If enough fair and honest voters vote, the un-intelligable votes that these dinks make won't matter: it won't really hurt the average. Maybe more people will start voting to keep these low votes from counting too much smile

Its fine the way it is, there is no perfect solution, but here is an idea:

If there is vote that is completely off from a trend, it will be cancelled? Like if 10 vote 4's and one person votes a 0, that zero will be erased from the average? This make sense?

I have only given 0 to 2 movies, AlamDV Boom cos it is just a plugin with no background and the demo caption and wilke battle because they wave their 'lightsabres' about frantically and don't even touch!

The lowest I normally give is a 1 because they've made some effort even to post a movie at all.

Ok, I'm in a better mood today smile (although I've just been to the dentist and I cant feel my face cry ). It was a pretty idle threat motivated by trawling through a few "this movie sucks" posts. I'm the one that approves all the movies and I personally see something good in all of them, so it upsets me too when people have no respect for them at all.

I think people should be allowed to vote however they want, everyone is different, and its quite feasible one person will vote high and the next will vote low. Thats all fine with me

Theres 3 things that annoy me tho

1) People who cheat the system; I'm kinda torn between the good side that people are so passionate about there movies and the bad side that it is completely unfair on everyone else.

2) People who complain about other peoples votes; Its feasible people wont agree with your thoughts, and they are entitled to express a different view. I'm probably being over sensitive about this. They are probably just friendly arguments like sidewinder said. But I don't want to see it get out of hand and see people get really upset.

3) Peoples who post comments like "this sucks"; It shows no respect for the author or the time they have spent creating something for you. By all means say if you didn't like it, but back it up with some constructive criticism. Posts that are just offensive and rude are completely worthless and make you look like an idiot.

Anyway, I feel better for saying that smile
Ill keep a closer eye on the voting, and try to make sure that a few people don't ruin it for what is otherwise a fantastic community.
